Nice buck! Deer hunting is a great way to spend the off-season of bass fishing. Here is my first buck i got last december. 8 points and scored a 98. It believe it was aged to be 3 years old. picture: http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g9/catfishguy/Mattbuck.jpg Good hunting for the rest of the season! Matt

For the AVERAGE Guy - Rods and Reels
Well, considering the places i fish i consider myself a fairly successful fisherman. I have 2 combos that i use, then some other reels and rods that are broken or just cheap peices of plastic. My one spinning combo is a Okuma Stingson ($50) and a Fenwick Venture (Worth $50, but i got it free from the muddyman. Thanks again muddy!) The rod is great and the reel is very good for the price, and I've cought hundreds of bass on them and never had a problem. The Stingson has a very nice drag, and its very strong considering its a graphite frame. I've thrown this reel around quite alot, and it pulls in bass like the day i bought it. I highly reccomend Okuma and their Stingson for the price range of $40-$60. Fenwick makes top of line rods for their price IMHO. For baitcasting i have a Browning Six Rivers on a low end Quantum rod, not sure what model it is. The Six Rivers is a heavy duty aluminum reel that is ment for steelhead but works just fine for bass. Got a good drag and all alum parts, i got it for $100. The rod isnt that great (i need to upgrade. I've got a much better rod but its top guide got damaged and i cant use i intill i can get it repaired) and is worth $30. I very happy with Fenwick rods, Okuma spinning reels, and browning BC reels. If you want a $100 spinning combo, i highly recomend the Okuma Stingson with the Fenwick Eagle GT. Great reel and great rod for a low price. Browning doesnt make very good reels for the low price range, but if want some more expensive stuff the Midas looks great for baitcasting. I cant give very good advice about lower priced casting reels, becuase I haven't had many. But anything with Fenwick on it is a great rod. If you want a $50 casting rod, I say the Eagle GT is your best bet. And cheaper priced combos still catch fish. If your really on a budjet then the Berkly Lightning Rod is the best for the $30 range. As for a cheaper reel try something big brand, like Shimano. To answer your question my rods and reels are in the $50-$100 dollar range. I want to upgrade here and there, but i bet i would catch just as many fish if i spent $50 on each combo.

Don't you hate it?
That would get my heart beating. That must be pretty intense fighing in a big pike on lighter tackle. I wonder if they landed it.... To bad the video stops so soon.

WWOZ on line
Johnny Cash is one of my favorites. Ghost Riders, Seasons of my Heart and Orange Blossem Special are some of his best IMHO. BTW you can listen to Johnny Cash at johnnycash.com. They have around 20 songs on there.

Ever catch a body while fishing?
lol is that what you and avid call yourselves? ;D Seriusly though, here in NJ you got to be really careful. When a corpse is over 2 days old it will start to bloat up. If you snag one with your trebble hooks it will pop and scare most of the bass away. LOL now can i join your club muddy?

Pearl Harbor-65 years
Bolth my grandpa's fought in WW2. One in Germany and the other in the Navy in Japan. The one in the navy shot down 2 suicide japanese planes. He said they where so close that he could see their faces while he shot them down. He said he could even see the "rising sun" bandana that they would wear around their foreheads. He said it was a terrible thing shooting someone into the sea when they where looking right at you. He was usualy below deck, but it was during a battle and there was a shortage of gun men, so he ran up and manned one of the anti-air guns. He saw the plane coming. At this point of the story he always said: "I guessed its better than one of then die then our whole ship. So i shot him down." He survived and died at 79 years old.

PB pickeral (pics)
Awsome pick! I havn't seen one that big in a while. My all time PB for pickerel is 25" that i cought with my dad years ago at Colliers Mills, but my PB for this summer was 21". I love catching pickerel. Who ever says they dont fight hard must not have cought and nice sized ones. IMHO a 3lb pick will fight harder than a 3lb bass. I know some good brushpiles in this area that are loaded with pickerel. Its fun to paddle up to them and pull out some toothy critters. Nice late season PB! Matt

Ain't It the Truth
And people wonder why there was less crime back then. Becuase people carried rifles in their cars, people didn't hi-jack cars. Becuase people had pistols in their bed stands, robbers didnt come running into houses. Becuase when some one murder some one else, he would get the chair, not 10 years in prision. Makes a fellow wonder where the legal system will be in 20 years....

New member introduction
Welcome to the forums! This is a great place. The best advice i can give you fishing a T-rig this time of year is to fish it SLOWLY. So slow that you will wish you brought a novel to read. The slower, the better. (And if you live north of texas it is even more inportant.) see you on the forums Matt

How accurate are weight calculators? Hmmm...
I think the problem with the BassResource.com calculater is that the option for Bass also includes Crappie and Panfish. This probaly messes with the weight of large bass.

New Hybrid spinner bait blade by Terminator
Man that thing looks weird. But i bet it will catch fish. my friend says: "The cool thing about bass fishing is that you could throw a beer can out there and get the bass to hit it." Anyone know exactly when they come out? I would like to try some and see for myself how good they are. The colors are limited, but those are my 4 faverite colors, so thats fine with me. Matt

Sweet bass avid, sounds like you had a great time. I see the chartruse/white spinnerbait got that one. They work good around here too. You know what they say: "If it aint chartruse it aint no use" And BTW those sunglasses rock! You should get whittler to airbrush some flames on them or somthing ;D ;D

Help with bass flies...
Hey This christmas i'm getting fly fishing tackle. I'm new to the art of fly fishing for bass, and i need some help on what flies to buy. I'm going to be using a 6wt outfit, fishing for largemouth, and i need some versitile flies becuase i fish clear and muddy, cold and warm, and pretty much any weather. If someone could post some links for Bassproshops.com to flies that are good for what i'll be doing, that would be fantastic. I have a budjet, and i'm looking to spend around $35. So i'm hoping to get roughly 10 flies with that. Thanks a ton in advance Matt

could today be the day we BR breaks 7000?
wow, it seems like it was just last week that we hit the 6000 mark. At this rate we could hit 8000 by the start of March. Soon we will have to have member videos every 2000 members!

What a blast!
20 fish in one day and a 4lber? Thats unheard off around here. Nice going! That must have been pretty sweet getting hit right after pulling the jig out of a snag. I've had that happen with T-rigs before. Sounds like you had a blast. Keep it up! Matt

Hate spinnerbaits?
I cought my 2nd biggest bass on a spinnerbait, and also my 4th. For me, spinnerbaits simply work and simply catch fish. Any time, and place, any weather, spinnerbaits have been one of my most productive lures. I always have a couple in my tacklebox, and they are my #1 bait for pitching/flipping into brushpiles. I have to say spinnerbaits are my go-to-lure. Every kind will catch fish pretty much anywhere. My 2nd biggest was cought on a $1.75 Lucky Strike double willow. Hate 'em? naw, whats not to love?

Reelmech, You sell cork rod buts on your site. I have a few that need to be replaced. Will the cork sealer seal the cork buts you sell? thanks Matt
