My first cast
Thanks, guys. This cold/flu stuff is bad this year. I have felt bad the past 3 days, but tonight is by far the worse I have felt. This stuff is terrible. I didn't catch anymore. I switched over to a zero and slowly pulled it across the bottom. Got a couple hits but missed.

My first cast
Been fighting a cold the past few days - couped up in the house when its been pretty nice here in central NC. Well, weather finally got the better of me and knowing a front is coming through tomorrow took off down to the pond late this afternoon. Not feeling well, didn't have a lot of time and didn't feel like fooling with tying on lures so just grabbed what I thought might be effective. Thought was they would be on the upper end where its warm - gets full sun in the middle of the day and its shallow - so I grabbed a spinning rod that had a Rapala Skitter Walk Bluegill pattern and headed down. Never had this happen before. Very first cast and start slowly walking it back with long pauses. Boom. I catch this - on my first cast - never ever had that happen before.

Rat-L Trap vs. Rattlin' Rapala vs. S.K. Diamond Shad
Rattlin' Rapala is my go to lure. Baby bass pattern. Have some of the Rat-L traps, but for me, personal preference for the Rapala's. Both are good lures, try a couple of each. You will soon find a favorite. Eddie

Is thier something wrong with me?
I'm there with you. Early 40's and until about 5 years ago fishing was something I did growing up - no interest in it at all. Didn't have time for it - too busy building my career and climbing the corporate ladder. Now, there is nothing I would rather do than be sitting on the bank tossing a rattle trap or a spinner. No, there's nothing wrong with you. If anything, you're better.

Worlds smallest gun
I just can't see Dirty Harry saying "This here's a swiss mini-gun, the teeniest-weensiest little handgun in the world...." If Dirty Harry wouldn't use it, neither would I.

Jeans
Levi's - relaxed fit of course. But, I only have two pair as do not wear them often - loafing around when it's cold out. Rest of the time wearing slacks/dockers for work and church. Shorts for almost everything else most of the year.

Favorite kind of food?
Sushi! Sushi! Sushi! Wouldn't touch the stuff for most of my life. Then a buddy finally got me to try some when I was really hungry one day - only way I would try it - and have LOVED it ever since. After that American/Southern cookin', Italian, Mexican, Thai. Really like Cajun but there aren't many, if at all, that I can find around here. But, truth be told, take one look at my 350 lb frame and you will know that there isn't much that I don't like. Eddie

What ever happened to this rumor?!?!
The Wal-Mart in Durham has one of the best fishing selections in the area. Not much for Rods and Reels, but lures and line are great. The two that run the deptartmnet are fisherman themselves and very helpful. As far as the other rumors - that's funny. I vaguely remember those.

Red Vixen Fox with its pups with pics
That is so neat. I have seen one fox around here but never been able to get a picture. Very cool.

brushpiles
I've been toying with the idea of adding some structure to my pond - a lot of great ideas here. I really like the thought of using PVC. Know it is more expensive than just collecting brush, but would rather spend a few $$ on PVC than lose some lures hooked in the brush. Thanks.

Anyone here dilly daddle in C++ programming?
Hey, bassin' blvd LOL! I have found that just like IT, fishing has its own language. I grew up fishing a zebco 202 with nightcrawlers, corn and bread. Several years ago decided I wanted to start fishing again. I find this site and read things like: Attach a 3/8 chartreuse 5/0 jig-n-pig with a double uni on a med-hvy sensitive tip using a 6.3:1 curado 100d BC with pline ultra in stained milfoil, or, wacky rigged GYCB on the backside of a front for. Hey, I just want to catch a fish.. I have concluded that we treat everything as a secret society where the innermost secrets and knowledge are shared by code. I think we guys do this to keep the wives/girlfriends/mothers confused Attach a 3/8 chartreuse 5/0 jig-n-pig sounds a lot better that I'm going fishin'. Plus, get to double uni in that statement and my wife has checked out and I'm good for a few hours at the pond.

Anyone here dilly daddle in C++ programming?
Nuclearpenguin (love the name BTW) didn't realize this was for a class. Sorry. Still think the switch statement should work. Talk to your prof and see what they say. You mentioned about probably not doing a lot of coding after graduation, but, be prepared which sounds like you are doing . If you go into security probably will not do a lot of coding but could end up editing config files, filters and parsing editors and/or creating simulated load/attacks. Both of which, depending upon the tool, could look a lot like object-oriented code. But, sys admin might be a little different story. Windows administration probably won't do a lot outside of simple batch scripts as it's mostly automated point and click which is a very good thing. But, if you do UNIX admin you will probably do quite a bit of code in your career. In all likelihood it will be shell scripting (ksh, csh, bash, etc.). I was a UNIX admin for 10 years and wrote more scripts than I can remember. I wrote a bunch of C code for application integration and utilities that talked/interfaced directly with the operating system. But, the overwhelming majority of code was shell scripts (ksh). So, just be prepared if you go into sys admin, you might do more programming than you realize. Good luck, Eddie
