Fishing Buddy Boat
I read an article a while back - can't find it now - on a British web site talking about using an R/C boat for surf fishing. It would take the line out past the breaks and you would release the line and then bring the boat backin. The problems I remember being discussed was that the boat would get swamped with incmoing waves - it would right itself but the line would typically get tangeld. Also, depending on how far out and how much effort it took to keep the boat stable, you would only get two or three runs. I thought it was interesting. The thought of trolling though is just a bit much. The fish gets wrapped in some struicture not only have you lost the fish, but you just lost your RC boat. I think I will stick to the old fashioned way.

` Rod builders
If I had a few more rods under my belt, would love to help you out. But, I am too new and for now need to keep my mistakes at home. Know there are a lot of good builders on here that can help you out. Could also try rodbuilder.org if you don't find what you need here. Eddie

If you only had 1 lure to use...
Tough one - its hard for me to stick with the same thing for an hour much less a day. But, here goes - watermelon senko. Can fish/finesse it so many ways.

Rod Build # 2
Cheating or not, it looks nice. The "mirrored" look is a good idea and looks nice. I bought some cork rings a while back and looking to get a "lathe" put together using my drill to turn them. However, when I see grips already made up for $9 and see what you did with $7 just got me wondering if its really worth making up my own. If I were going to attempt some of the really intricate design "boutique" grips I could see turning my own, but, don't think I am going to attempt anything like that. Really leaning towards buying the pre-made grips and shaping/slicing in two for the fore and aft grips. Regardless, really nice. Can't wait to see it when you are done.

Rod Build # 2
Yep, just as I suspected - very nice! Love the mirroring of the fore and aft grips. Are you glueing up & turning that cork yourself?

Learned a very valuable lesson.
Flechero, good point. I will go to a higher grit and give it a shot. Never even thought about the needle file - that's a great idea. Will get me one and give that a try. The ones I did practice on I was "reasonably satisfied" with - looked a little splotchy where I did the touch up - like you said earlier, I would proabably be the only one that notices. I didn't pay attention to my rod warps until I started getting into this and was amazed at the "quality" I had bought. NorDoor, I hear ya. Your first rod was awesome though. Remember those pics and sure this one will be great as well. One thing I have "learned" that might help, and flechero (and others) would love to hear your feedback, is that the flexcoat finish is awesome. In my practicing have tried flexcoat, Devcon and (think it was) Rodbuilder that I picked up at the expo - copjle CC's in a syringe. To me, the FlexCoat kills them all. The last wrapping I did after two coats of FlexCoat it looked like glass - I am sold on light build FlexCoat.

Tyler Hansbrough
Hookemdown, that's a great question. Have been wondering about that myself. Its really hard to tell. Right now, the offense is largely focused around him. In the NBA, probably will be built around guards and a lot of 1:1 play. There have been a lot of great college players that have totally tanked in the NBA - incredible college player that barely makes a scratch in the pros. Then you have mediocre college players that hit the right gear in the NBA and excel. Its just hard to tell anymore. I do think Hansbrough has the skills and the heart. Each year he has came back and strengthened his game where it was lacking the year before - he's now got a great outside shot and is very consistent. He handles the ball well and is a pretty good passer. I think he still needs a little more bulk to be a good F or PF in the NBA.

2008 NCAA Tournament - Bassresource pool & bracket challenge
That was scary at times...... Louisville is good. That run they had going really had me worried. I had to put the laptop down. Was really worrisome, especially when the fouls started having and impact. Good day for the heels - Mens and Womens Bball teams won over very good Lousville teams.

Tyler Hansbrough
You guys need to watch some of the old duke games. The entire team didn't foul. Agree, that was an abvious foul on Padgett on the top of the key. But, was anyone complaining about the triple team in the first half under the basket when he got hacked not once, but twice in that series? Or, the reach in when he was going out of bounds and tried to bounce it off the L'ville guy. Or, how about the last in bounds when Padgett was stepping over the line? All fouls on Hansbrough that were not called.

Yes, Searoach, I agree and thankfull was not hurt - one of the reasons was being careful. I do use an X-acto knife for trimming and cutting. Lure Guy, I sure am learning a lot!!!! ;D Flechero, thanks so much for the feedback. Been practicing quite a bit. Got a 1/4" dowel that have went up and down practicing wraps and coating. You are right, amazing how the slightest little fuzzy can "GROW". At least I am getting practice at sanding them out. : The few I have redone - using 220 grit and reapplying just does not look as good. So, working hard at just trying to get rid of before I finish. Using an alcohol lamp to burn off and helping some - also just being more cautious. I have yet to start reaming cork - sure that will be a challenge. Thanks, Eddie

2008 NCAA Tournament - Bassresource pool & bracket challenge
UCLA sure looked good. Collison is incredible. My heels looked good in the first half, but, I know this is VERY far from over. Louisville is a good group of atheletes and well coached. It did look to me at the end of the first half that L'ville was very tired and UNC was playing "fresh". Going to be an interesting second half.....

Best tough guy actor on tv/in movies
Agree with others on Eastwood, Bronson, The Duke, and Chuck Norris. Here are a few others I would add Steven Seagall - he's just bad. Al Pacino Bruce Lee Robert Deniro John Travolta And one of my all time favorite old-school tough guys - Burt Reynolds - White Lightning, Gator, and Sharkey's Machine are among my favs.

This is going to far ( Just Got To Vent )
There's protesting, then there's just being an outright disgraceful disrespectful scumbag. Using the funeral of someone who made the ultimate sacrifice to give others the right to protest is the latter of the two.

OK, you custom rod guys have me really going. Have been practicing on a lot of dowels and re-doing one of my FIL's old rods. Have also been working on string winder and decided was good opportunity to practice setting real seats and maybe some decorative wraps - will show the finished winder once complete. Anyway, that's the background. So, last night I finish up a very simple box pattern wrap for the one of the "rods" (5/8" dowel) on the string winder - very simple nothing fancy. Pack it thoroughly and burnish - pleased with my first "real" attempt. Start wrapping the "tip" end tie-off. Wanted to try some decorative wrap inlays so after about 3/8" I stop to insert the next color. The tape was a little close and the tie-off should be good so I start CAREFULLY cutting the tape and excess string. Well I am cutting towards the wrap and guess what? The blade slips and cuts the tie-off winding string releasing some of the tension. I just sit there in disbelief - was being so careful and like - THAT- disaster. Fortunately the wrap tension didn't release that much, just the first few windings on the outside of the pattern. I had already trimmed and cut the wrap threads so didn't have a lot to grab and tighten back up, but, I was more concerned about more of the wrap coming off. Got that fixed but then started another tie off ahead of the original and retightened the wrap. Was able to avoid a total disaster, but spent quite a bit of time fixing this. Lesson learned: DO NOT CUT TOWARDS THE WRAP. Anyone else want to share a valuable lesson learned the hard way?

A night out in Texas
Anyone else like reverand Horton Heat? Driving in this AM with the "good" reverand (lower case "r" on purpose") blaring on the 'pod. Forgot about this song until it started playing and immediately thought of this thread. Very appropriate from a fellow Texan I would think. Although I believe "Tina" is taller than 6'. Post Counts?
I treat posting like I would a conversation. If I have something to add I speak up. If not, I keep my mouth shut and listen. Think most people do that. It's pretty easy to identify, after a little while, who is "talking" to contribute and collaborate and who's in it to hear themselves talk (ie, post count). I go through spurts and phases. Somethimes can't make it over for days/weeks at a time. Other times, like the last week when I have been sick, I live here. Just love this site.

Daydreaming of being in a different industry.
Philanthropist - so rich I have to work at giving away money. ;D If I can't do that, I have many interests. But first would be a first call session bassist in Nashville, TN doing Christian music. Enjoy working with my tractor. Always said that if I won the lottery would buy a dozer, bigger tractor and dump truck and do grading and clearing work as my "hobby". I love the smell of diesel fumes in the morning. Actually, would just like to be financially comfortable to stay home and work around the house and be with my wife and little girl.

what bait to use for panfish
2x. Gills in my pond love the beetle spin. I have also had good luck with poppers and nymphs on a fly rig - that's fun.
-
Pond Bassers
I throw about everything but seem to have the best luck with spinners, shallow cranks and plastic worms.

Are your tackle boxes ready for opener?
Ready year round. Keep a backpack tackle bag ready to go at a moments notice. My larger one - the big Plano 3700 - I keep ready to go if going somewhere new. Keep everything but the kitchen sink in it just in case.....
