  6. @Kidflex I have not. And to tell you the truth I would not know what White Bass activity looked like. If you can describe it to me when I do see some I will let you know.
  7. Louisiana, saw this on Toledo Bend.
  8. Tight Lines! Launched from Oak Ridge, on the water around 11:30am. Motored out to a grass hump on the main lake I had seen on previous trips. 2nd cast caught a 15". Cool. Fished that hump till I was tired fishing that hump. Caught a total of 2 bass, had a third within 5' of the boat then he was gone. Had another that I felt the bite and saw the line moving left, when I set the hook no fish and no jig, nothing but 30# braid come up outta the water. Hmph. All this on a black/blue jig. Tied on another back/blue jig. There was 2' - 4' of water on top of the hump, the boat was in 7' of water. If I had cast out the back of the boat could have cast across the river channel. Moved on to an area I am trying to learn. Searching for a creek bed and road bed that intersect the channel. Trying to put this whole deep water is sanctuary, structure, breaks, break lines and cover together. Throwing a Rapala slow sinking jerk/crank bait. Caught the biggest Sac-A-Lait of my life. 1.45lbs. Cool. Throw the Rapala and jig till the weather changed. The wind picked up causing white caps. I buttoned up the hatches and headed to the Sabine River. On the river I catch some more Sac-A-Laits on the Rapala. No bass on the Rapala or jig. Weather has passed. Headed back to the creek bed and road bed. No luck. Tried the Rapala and jig all around that area. Dang. Sun was getting low so I headed to the launch. Put the truck in drive at 5:36pm headed to the house. 2 1/2 bass and 5 Sac-A-Laits. Put the Sac-A-Laits in the neighborhood pond.
  9. the one that catches fish!
  10. Thanks for your responses RoLo and Wayne P. I assumed that GPS would be an integral technology in what ever unit I purchase. That Navionics map is exactly what I am looking to have in the boat. Depth contours, road and creek beds and whatever else is there. With an icon showing where I am on the map. Cool. How long does it take for Navionics to update their server? Have a Minn Kota Edge 45 36" trolling motor, any problems attaching the transducer? Lets say I want Auto Chart Live, Navionics and down imaging. Would a HELIX 9 DI GPS fit the bill?
  11. Wanting a couple of things. First of all let me say that I have started fishing deep, looking for the bass sanctuary. It aint easy fishing something I can't see and it really drops my confidence level if I don't KNOW that I am at the right location. Been fishing bank cover and stumps in the water all my life. Now fishing structure. So... 1. Looking to map the contours the body of water I am fishing. Would like to see real time but taking it home, processing and back on the unit is fine. As long as I can look at a printed map, Hook-N-Line, see where a creek/road bed/ pond used to be and geaux and find it with this piece of electronics I am wanting to buy. Then map it myself and have it for future fishing trips. 2. Would like down imaging. Want to save the breaks, break lines and cover as way points. Does not have to be a "fish finder". Priority #1 is mapping the bottom of the body of water. Would like for this be mounted at the bow. My eyes aint what they used to be so a large screen may be needed, but really comes down to price. Suggestions?
  12. Nada, nothing, no fish, no bites. Launched from Oak Ridge. Headed out a 1pm. Motored to a place where there was an old creek bed coming into the main channel. Did not see any fish on the fish finder in 25'+ water. Did my best to follow the creek to shore fishing all the way. Throwing a black/blue buzz bait and chartreuse spinner bait in, what turned out to be, 2' - 6' of water at every stump I could see. I did make it to the shore to what looked like the mouth of the creek. It went back a ways but dried up. I was zig zagging trying to stay on top of the creek bed so it took awhile but I covered a lot of water. Saw bait fish jumping every once in awhile. Something was busting top water also, I think Gar. Back on the main channel and headed toward the launch as the sun was going down. Stopped at a spot where the shoreline was almost a cast away from main channel. Fish finder going crazy, fish suspended at 10' - 15' in 25' of water near the drop off. Spent 10 - 15 mins casting shallow and letting the buzz and spinner baits fall down the drop off. Then the mosquitoes started biting once the sun went down. I headed to the launch. Put the truck in drive at 6:15pm and headed to the house. Water temp was 58 - 60 degrees, scattered clouds, air temp supposed to be in the low 70s (felt like it, are we in the middle of winter?), nice gentle southern breeze.
  13. Spring of 2016 on Caddo Lake while frogging. Hooked 'em, got him to the boat. Once I saw him I knew he was going to be my new PB. While reaching for the net, he flicked his tail and was gone.
  14. Is the water level up? Down? or just right? I use this site http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=lch&gage=bklt2 to determine.
  15. Mid day to after sunset when Dad would take me pier fishing in Galveston. Been a morning fisherman all my adult life. Always fished the shallows too. I would deaux good first thing in the mornings but as the sun was getting higher the bite would drop. Sometimes would launch hours before sunrise but the bite does not seem to be as good as sunrise. Have been night fishing several times, in fact my sons PB, 5.3, was caught about 2am on a dock with a night light, full moon that night also. After reading this article and "Night Bassing ~ A-Jay's version" I might just have to try some more during the dog days of summer here in the south.
  16. Thinking about taking Thursday and Friday off and heading out for some fishing. Question is, will the weather be considered stabilized? Read somewhere on here that stable weather equals 3 days of the same weather, or something like that. I figure after the cold front that came through this weekend that the 3rd day of 70+ degree temps the fishing should be good for this time of year. So, will the weather be stabilized by 1/12/17 and continue through the weekend?
  17. You have caught a few deep? You have me beat. Shallow water fishing is all I have ever fished until recently. This deep water stuff is a new world. Been reading this forum and watching videos on YouTube to learn how it's done. I have said being at the right place at the right time with the right bait is the way to catch fish. Still true. I just have not been at the right place. Seems to me the right place starts with structure followed by breaks, breaklines and cover. Keeping my hook wet in those places should help with keeping my lines tight! The OP of this thread, @Catt, has forever changed the way I will bass fish. Thanks Catt!
  18. Sounds fun! I love pond fishing, take the grandchildren to the neighbor hood pond on a regular basis to wet a hook.
