  1. I have the 844C GLX, 783C GLX, 803C GLX and the 853C NRX. Out of all of these, the 844C is the most versatile and also cast better than the NRX. All of them will handle a 1/2oz jig but 853C NRX is the most sensitive. I think if you are strictly going with a 1/2oz jig rod then the next step up from what I have, the 854C NRX, would be great. If you are wanting a rod that is good at just about anything, then the 844C GLX is the best choice.
  2. I think you can use that reel for just about whatever you want. I use mine for my general purpose set up when I am on my kayak.
  3. For fluke type baits and small swimbaits I like a fast rod similar to a jerk bait rod. For shakey, Med x-fast is fine but I like a spinning rod for this technique. Spinnerbaits, I like a slower taper (mod-fast or fast) so the fish can swallow the bait.
  4. I had one of these years ago. It was horrible. If you can think of an issue, this reel had it. It looked so cool when I bought. I loved the way it felt, casted and retrieved when I first go it but it was short lived and to top it off, before a season of fishing was over, the paint started to come off. I tried to work it out with Quantum but had no luck. They did what they could. Unfortunately, it ended up in the trash. I would contact Quantum and see if they can help. Despite the reel I had being bad, they do have great customer service.
  5. It depends on the rod >some are stiffer than others. My initial thought is that I would not use it for spinnerbaits, flukes, and shakey head but it would be ok for the rest.
  6. I agree as well but my only gripe and stems from about 20 years ago is that the old Loomis reps would say something like... "You will never need to buy another rod. The lifetime warranty has you covered". Of course times have changed and 15 years is good enough for me. I hope they stay with a lifetime warranty. Also, what I rumored about above was mentioned to me by a St. Croix rep as I was buying a new NRX at, what may be, the last trade show I attended.
  7. The rumor I had heard last year is that Loomis was changing their new stock to a 15 year warranty similar to St. Croix when you mail in a rod but they will still offer the Xpeditor service. Old rods will be replaced with the new version but the new rod will have a 15 year warranty instead of lifetime.
  8. I am kind of curious how this all went down as well. I have been debating between the 844C Conquest, an 854 NRX or a Megabass Super Destroyer. I will be using it for bigger jigs and small (1.25oz at the most) swimbaits.
  9. Cool> Thanks You've got to love Google Translate.... Overwhelm with power. A standard-bearer of a circular reel that sticks to winding.
  10. The BPS knocker has worked for me and it has payed for itself more than once.
  11. Megabass Pro Blue
  12. A new Conquest..... ?
  13. I have 20 combos total. I take at the most 6 when I am on a boat, 2 on a kayak, and 2 if I am fishing from the bank. I think 5 is enough but why stop there.
  14. In the past few years I have purchased several new reels/rods and a few were duds..... Some of the notable bad ones.... Abu Garcia STX Gen4 Quantum Accurist (Generation before S3) Shimano Vanquish > great reel but I was excepting more for the price tag. Should have gotten a Stradic or waited for the Vanford Okuma Helios Air Fenwick Elite Tech Walleye Spinning and an Elite Tech Bass Casting G. Loomis GLX 803C > I do love this rod but I had the original and was sent a newer version (2nd generation?) when I did a warranty exchange. It's not as good as the one I had.
  15. Not a big fan of Sufix Advance but I do like Elite for mono. For squarebills and crankbaits though, I like Sunline Defier 13lb.
  16. Either at $200 or $400 or even $600 or $1000, at some point it becomes about fishing pleasure. Where you draw that line, is up to you. To me fishing is fun and pleasure, so what ever gets me there. I have several rods and reels that I enjoy. For example, I have a little over $1000 invested in one setup and say less than $150 in another. Both are fun and I like them for different reasons but the $1000+ setup is about all day fishing nirvana. Will someone get the same goosebumps I do when they fish it> who knows?
  17. I have the Curado DC and so far so good. It's smooth, casts great, and has taken a beating since I got it but it's a tool for a purpose> fishing in difficult situations. I don't know if I would use it as my go to reel though. I have used mine on various rods for heavy jigs, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits.
  18. 30lb is almost musky and pike territory. I would use it with 65lb or 80lb braid and some big baits. The 6lb would go with 20lb braid for smallmouth and largemouth. I would use for tubes and weightless 4in senkos. Trying out the 12lb Gold Label this year for my general purpose bass set up. We will se how it goes.
  19. I haven't used a spinning rod for jerkbaits before, just doesn't seem right to the way I fish but I use the Loomis 783C GLX casting. I don't see why the same rod in a spinning set up wouldn't work> 783S SJR GLX
  20. Shimano Anatares 70A. Awesome reel. Does it all.
  21. I try to learn or relearn a technique each year. It keeps things fun and breaks up the monotony. This years technique is the Gika Rig. On a side note, I fish with a guy that uses the same soft plastic worm (size and color) for everything and every condition. Some days it's hot but there are a lot of days, it's not and he will get skunked before he changes up. It can make for a frustrating eight hours out on the water. I have tried to switch him over to other baits by just giving them to him but even if he catches something on a new bait he will go back to the same worm.
  22. How much are looking to spend? Are you looking for a light weight reel more for finesse? Are you going to use it for more than just a shakeyhead rod?
  23. I will have my K on a 7' MH Fast St. Croix Avid this upcoming season. I have had this rod for years and it has seen several Curados over the years. It is sort of my do all rod (aka Jack of All Trades). I know how it casts, balances and feels under load. I can use it for anything I tend to fish. I may have over recommended this rod on this forum but I have yet to find one that equals it's value, versatility, and sensitivity, plus its stood up to plenty of abuse.
