I have not used a GL2 but I have 3 Avid spinning rods and a Loomis IMX rod. For the money and if you can find it on clearance, the Avid is the best rod for the money right now. I would take a look at both and see which one feels the best but if it was my choice, I would get the Avid instead of the GL2.

I have been using Floroclear 8lb and 6lb on spinning gear for about two years now and have nothing bad to say about it. It has been great.

Have you guys tried a float and fly setup? What type of fly and bobber do you use? I have not tried this method of fishing in a long time and just wanted to hear what everyone had to say.

I'd go for the Loomis IMX 843 or the 844. I fished a friends Techna and it is a nice rod. The only thing that I own that I would compare it to would be the St. Croix Avid but not quite as stiff. I find it hard to believe that is a $209 rod. You might also look at the St.Croix Legend Tournament rods.

Welcome. Just like RW said, G.Loomis and a Shimano Curado......... I'd go for a Loomis MBR844C IMX and a Curado 100.

The X-Calibur XR-50 and Lucky Craft LVR's are my favorite.

WOW... To take a flat surface and make it 3 dimensional takes talent but to make it art and completely fool the eye, is genius.

If you're using a baitcaster, I like Trilene Fluorocarbon. For spinning gear, p-line floroclear 8lb is my favorite.

I bought one early last year and it lasted about 4 months. It cracked just above the reel seat. My first impression was this was a good rod for the money but luckily I was able to take it back. When I returned it the sales guy said that they have had quite a few of these rods returned but it had a been great seller when it first came out. I would do some searching and see if you can find a St. Croix Avid on clearance. It has to be the best deal right now you can find on a rod.

I fish them all the time and have never had one break on me. The only thing I have notice with the DT's is that I have yet to find two of the same lure that run the same.

I have not tried Reel/Real Magic. It looks like a snake oil product that claims to fix everything. I have tried a sample of KVD stuff and was impressed. It made the line on my spinning reel limper, and it increased my casting distance but only by a small amount. Personal opinion, keeping fresh line on your reels and performing proper maintenance works better.

I have been using a BCR 803 GLX and a Shimano Calcutta 251 to fish fat ikas and weightless senkos. So far this has been a great setup for me. The slower speed of the Calcutta works great for soft plastic and the rod is the most sensitive rod I have fished yet.

I will be selling a rod and reel soon and I looked into what it would cost to ship them. Here is about what it would cost me to ship it from Indiana to Florida using the UPS Ground Business rate. Tube= $5 for a 7' tube Insurance= ~$4 for $250 Shipping= $17 for 2lbs So total, that's $26. I have always questioned the $50 or whatever amount needed to pay upfront for the delivery of a new rod under warranty but after pricing it myself, I understand why Loomis and St. Croix charge the prices they do. I always thought the rods had a high price and that a replacement was figured into the cost. So when you think about it, if you break your rod once or even twice, it's not such a bad deal.

BPS had them on sale for one day only back in spring for $14.99. They had so many, people thought they were free or that they were some type of weird display. We spent most of the day there and left after their final giveaway. On our way out we noticed that they still had almost all of the Lightning Rods left. Eversince then I have skeptical of this rod because at $14.99, you would think people would be buying them left and right.

My local Gander Mountain is loaded with Avid rods. I would guess that they have around 100-150 on the racks. The sales guy said they just arived and he seemed totally confused when I said that Dick's has them for $75.

Trilene XL or XT for me. But what about Burkley Big Game?

I had one in college that said on the front, "Choose your position!." On the back it had over 100 different cartoon characters doing Kama Sutra like stuff. It was funny then but if my kids ever knew or saw it, my wife would shoot me where I stand. At least when I ever I wore it to a party or whatever, there was always something to talk about.
