    those are cool
  2. i've done both methods over the years, however my natural reaction is to stop the retrieve. sometimes they have it, sometimes they dont. a spot will come back about 75% of the time if you kill it. if it happens more than 2 or 3 times i need to be throwing a moving bait.
  3. at least you wasn't in the boat!
  4. in my younger days we'd spend all night on the lake. thankfully, nothing bad happened to us nor did we witness anyone else having an accident. but we had our share of hairy experiences. we ended up amidst a sailboat flotilla one night before we realized they we even there! those mast lights dont stand out so good! another night, there was this couple making wild passionate whoopie in their cabin cruiser, oblivious to the world around them. got a good chuckle outta that one. but nothing gets your attention like running full throttle through a flock of geese at night. just one direct hit to the face from a full grown goose could break a man's neck. we were young and foolish....and lucky i suppose. please be careful out there guys. your wife and kids just want you to make it home safe and sound.
  5. what is this MEK you speak of?
  6. me and my cousin used to fish a 350 acre lake out of a 12' jon boat with a trolling motor. good times.
  7. my trusty #7 Shad Raps and an old Countdown Minnow that i haven't thrown in years.
  8. stay away from the rip-rap just sayin'
  9. i am currently looking for a 12-14' johnny although i already own a bass boat, which i am very pleased with. but the small lake (350 acres) that i have fished for nearly 40 years is not accessible to public boat launching anymore (as of July 5th) due to the sale of property surrounding the northern portion of the shore. there was no "ramp" to begin with, just a road that ran off into the lake and we all launched there. now there is a cable and signage soon to be followed by development. i do, however, have access to a boat slip thanks to a nice old lady who lives on the south shore and i shall keep my "new" johnny there. i once fished that lake via jon boat many years ago when the kids were young and money was tight. the lake is 5 minutes from the house and it is my sanctuary. it's hard to explain that to some but you all know what i mean. good thread
  10. i catch ALOT of spots. gp/chartreuse, wm/chart, wm/red, wmseed/chart, wmseed/red and june bug ALL WORK. you may have to experiment on any given day but that's the fun part to me. good luck.
  11. pack of bullet weights, 2 packs of hooks, and as many bags of worms that you can with what you have left. dont forget the tax. git r done.
  12. i hope the operation goes well man and you make a full recovery. back injury is no joke.
  13. i like those old ratty looking docks with nails sticking up all over the place. those with twenty some feet off the deep end, with lights and rod holders, and rotten old "legs". and big rusted boat houses
  14. well done. have there been any reports of missing pets or small farm animals?
  15. you should be commended for such restraint!
  16. i do the same thing for spots. they'll follow up like nobody's business.

    my life story
  18. if you must you a weighted hook for a fluke, by all means, use a screw lock instead of the one shown. i like a plain old hook myself for the fluke and a screw lock/weighted hook for the swimmig fluke.
  19. i must admit that hardwoods are better than the Christmas trees. they tend to have longer branches and last much longer too. we sank some holly bushes on a hump one year and they are still there. we got all scratched up but it was worth it! but something about seeing all those discarded Christmas trees just lying by the curb after the new year.....i cant help it. next thing you know, i got a couple dozen piled up at the house. nothing wrong with the PVC either. a friend of mine does the black rolled plastic pipe, cut different lengths, set in buckets half filled with quickcrete. those dont rot. i love me some brush piles.
