  1. My SLX is the same way, you can hear it from the back of the boat- and like his mine has nothing to do with improper lubrication nor abuse.
  2. When I was much younger- and molds were hard to come by- I took a Slug go and put it flat side down in a plastic container. I poured resin that I found in the auto section over the worm. When it hardened I removed it from the Tupperware, pulled the worm out, and had a mold. It wasn't pretty, but it made a lot of baits.
  3. She gets it. I've seen a lot of spot burn because girlfriends and wives on social media have no issues giving out information.
  4. I agree with Scott. For 60 I would look for something like a used Any Garcia round reel. I'm using an old Shimano Mag Plus BMP350SG to throw big swim baits and I paid twenty dollars for it.
  5. PB&J for the ride home, a thermos of Yerba Mate- I'm a bilingual redneck and got addicted to the stuff when I went to college in Ecuador.
  6. VMC, Gamakatsu, Owner, all are good.
  7. Not to step on DVTs toes, but I've done a few of these and they aren't very difficult. When you take off one of the sides--lift up so that parts can't fall out. Set your phone up to video and or take pictures. Those old Shimanos don't have a zillion parts, you'll be fine.
  8. I went from an F250 diesel of that vintage to a max tow Ecoboost and was more than happy. It had either 3.55 or 3.73 (It's been five years) and it did everything I needed. I couldn't find the Chevy I wanted when I bought it either.
  9. For some reason I get over 40 in a turbo 1.8 gas Jetta. It's a 5 speed, which does help, and my 35 minute commute is mostly country highways. The downside is that I drive a small sedan. My 95 F350 only does weekend duty, if I lived closer to my job I would have a newish truck. I traded a year old Ecoboost for the Jetta, that was a sad day.
  10. I would love to go EV too, but I'm far better off getting 40 mpg in a gas Jetta. My buddy who lives closer to work than I do has a Bolt- very impressive car.
  11. garroyo said it better than I could have. His response answers your question.
  12. I pull the tag end while I hold the hook with my other hand. Just as important, I wet the line just before there's any friction on the knot. Surprising how many people I see tie knots without wetting the line.
  13. I'm sure you'd like that rod, it looks like a good one. I have a few old pistol grips that I got for under 35 a piece on eBay, and they are great car rods. One is a Falcon and the other two are old Lew's. They fit easily in the trunk of my VW, it's always nice to throw a few before I come home. Being good for topwaters and small squarebills is a bonus.
  14. I've had many a smallmouth jerkbait trip end up with a big perch taco dinner.
  15. I agree. It's a fine bait, but average.
  16. Watch your line going down, I catch a lot of fish on the drop. Bluebasser nailed it, btw. That post should be a sticky.
  17. You can make molds pretty inexpensively using Bondo. There's information all over on the topic if you google it. You are better off using baits that have one flat side, like a jig trailer for example. Also, if you are remelting, get yourself some heat stabilizer or you run the risk of having burnt baits.
  18. Really good video, Glenn. I've also been fishing these since 90-91, mostly in heavy pads up here in New England. Caught my first 5 in high school on a black Berkley power slug. One other thing to mention-don't go below 14/15 lb line. When you twitch the bait with lighter line you end up with a couple of inches of line that forms a big curl just in front of the bait. 17 and up is stiff enough that it stays straight, which helps with hookups.
  19. Just ordered a Skeet Reese cranking rod for 39.99 from Dick's. I added a couple packs of Gamakatsu trebles to get to the magic $50 for free shipping. I have never had an issue with their rod shipping in the past, if there's an issue I'm sure they'll take care of me.
  20. Caught my first bass of the year- a 3.5- using this rig today. I have two of the heavy action Carbon Fires, got them both for 40 a piece. I also have more expensive stuff, but find these rods in my hands a lot. I lost all of my rods in a fire three years ago, and while waiting for the insurance money I had to have something to use- I planned on giving them to my nephew when I got all of my new high dollar stuff. Don't tell him, there isn't going to be any for a while!
  21. 8.1:1 Fuego CT on a Lew's Carbon Fire Heavy fast 7'3". 17 lb Copoly until the pads grow up in June, then I go to 50 lb braid.
  22. Send it to me and I'll properly dispose of it.
  23. Papajoe, you asked how long it takes to tie another knot. I'm a long leader user 7' or so and tying that knot while trying to keep my boat on a spot is a challenge-for me at least. I try to do them all at home where I have good light and not getting blown off the water by ski boats. I'll admit, I'm not great at any of the knots (FG, Alberto, Blood, SD Jam) to do it quickly. Having 7 feet allows me to never retie on the water. And only on my spinning gear.
  24. I have about ten Simplicity tractors from 1973-1984 in vintage. Bought most of them from guys my age who don't know how to work on points ignition systems. My whole collection cost maybe 2500 dollars, and I do everything from snow removal to rototilling with them. It pays to be the son of a maintenance mechanic/welder/fabricator.
  25. I still use mine too, I keep it on a 5'6" pistol grip that stays in the car with me. A blast to use, but really makes one appreciate the new reels.
