  1. My hook keeper is my spinning reel.
  2. I have been bass fishing for several decades now and I have come to the conclusion that having full confidence in yourself is far more important than fishing a exact lure color. There are days a exact lure color makes a big difference and there are days lure color makes no difference whatsoever ,it's up to you to figure them bass out on that particular day.I will add that a properly presented lure in a decent color will outfish a "secret color" ,so it would be best to master a couple lure presentations for best results.
  3. I also agree with those that reading the discussion has not changed my lure color selection at all.I have been using the same colors for decades and the bass continue to bite well. Most lure colors are made more to catch fishermen than to catch bass.Having full confidence in the way you fish is far more important than what color your lure is.
  4. Zoom super flukes
  5. Yes, I have a couple spots deep in the Everglades where the bass go full beserker mode and hit on every single well presented cast you give them. This happens mostly during low water periods, which is probably the best time to fish the glades.I have had many days where I have caught +100 bass and another +100 fish (mostly bowfin, gar, peacock bass, oscar). The bass tend to hit in big groups, and when the action is at 100% intensity I have caught 4-8 bass a minute!!!!! I highly recommend all bass fishermen to visit the glades when there is very low water levels so they can have a experience they will never forget!
  6. Most of the fishing techniques mentioned in these old books work very well in today's age.
  7. I enjoy eating avocados and use them often as a ingredient in my meals.
  8. Great topic! The OP has given a good example of how expensive gear is not truly needed to catch some quality sized bass.I myself use bass rods that are mostly under $100 each(except 1 rod) and I have caught many big bass this way.One needs to focus more on learning how to read a body of water and how to fish several types of lures well than spending excess money on rods that don't guarantee success.
  9. This is one of the best tips you can get when it comes to bass fishing. Small bodies of water (under a couple hundred acres) get overwhelmed easily if people start fishing it hard,so choose wisely who you tell about your new spot. I learned this lesson the hard way with a couple of my favorite locations .Since then I have found much better spots and the only people I talk to about these locations are my loved ones.
  10. Seems like they might be able to add the delta smelt in the near future to the list of colors for the "extinct" series.
  11. Yes I have fished wacky rigged lizards,it works ok but nowhere as good as a wacky rigged senko.
  12. A highly skilled bass fisherman will outfish most bass fisherman with a rod that cost under $50.
  13. I practice bass fishing since it's fun,its a good form of exercise(if you fish on land you often walk for hours thoughout the day),good way to spend time in the outdoors, and I enjoy outsmarting difficult to catch fish (trophy bass).
  14. Congratulations to Bill Evans for obtaining the new state record bass for Washington! That is a giant bass anywhere in the word.
  15. The Live Target hollow body frog is very affordable if you take into consideration how many bass you can catch on one of these lures.
  16. No I don't see any buckets in this picture, and I zoomed in. Seems like this picture is a stereoypical representation of those that keep what they catch, and a bad one at that. People need to have some compassion for their fellow man and understand that some people have to supplement their diets with what they catch, and that it is acceptable as long as they have their fishing license and catch the legal limit and size of bass.
  17. Here's a couple locations near the Miami area where you should have a good time bass fishing; Location #1: Amelia Earhart Park in Hialeah. This is a beautiful park that has excellent bass fishing for numbers of bass,as well as quality sized bass(biggest bass I have caught out of this park was over 8 pounds and +24" inches in length ).The bite has been pretty good in the lake closest to the soccer field. Location #2: The canal behind Opa Locka airport on Red Road and NW 142nd Street. Its the part of the canal that is "L" shaped. This canal has a good population of largemouth bass and it's LOADED with peacock bass.Fish with live shiners here and your almost guaranteed a couple peacock bass, along with other exotic species. This canal is only a couple minutes away from the first location,so you can fish both places in 1 day. Let me know if you need more help and I will provide more information.
  18. I have only read good things about the taste of snakehead, but it's hard for me to consider eating them from the canals I catch them from. These canals are very polluted, and I won't be surprised if these snakeheads have high levels of methylmercury and other types of pollution in their meat.
  19. Everyone who spends time on the water needs to be a strong swimmer, there are no exceptions.Take some swimming classes if you don't know how to swim,it might save your life one day if you fall off your boat without a life vest on.
  20. Rainy days are great for bass fishing, at least down here.Try fishing right before or right after a heavy rain.Been having a great time catching fish after fish in these conditions.
  21. Good topic. Most people that keep bass have a fishing license,so they are entitled to keep bass as long as it's a legal size and amount. Anyone who doesn't respect this is most likely a poorly skilled bass fisherman who is most likely jealous of the "meat hunters" success. With that said,I don't keep largemouth bass ,but respect those that keep legal sized bass.
  22. I recently had a hawk swoop down to eat my topwater lure, but I was fortunate to reel the lure fast enough so the hawk didn't get hooked.Have had cormorants and seagulls take my lures before, not fun removing a angry bird from a lure with 2 treble hooks on it.
  23. Try bass fishing at night.
  24. I fully agree with this statement. When I started bass fishing I just wanted to catch a bass, didn't matter it's size. Later on I wanted to catch as many bass as possible. A while after that I only wanted to catch big bass and didn't care how I caught them. Now I am catching big bass the way I want to,with specific lure presentations and working on breaking all my bass fishing pb's.The amount of time it will take to break each pb means nothing to me and the reward of breaking old pb's is worth all the effort.
  25. Looks like a oyster toadfish.
