  1. Yes it doesn't make much sense how they accept certain records so easily, yet don't accept other legitimate catches. The " IGFA world record longest bass" comes to mind, that bass was barely 24 inches long,a size that countless bass fisherman have caught.
  2. That is true that he weighed his 24 pounder on a bathroom scale, but he did have plenty of witnesses and had the scale tested. It seems such a hassle to have the IGFA accept a new world record largemouth bass,I particularly don't like the part that the next world record bass has to be killed for the official record. The IGFA has countless official records for fish that have been released, yet for some strange reason a new world record bass may not count if released.
  3. Wow, look at the size of the bucketmouth on George Perry's 22 pound, 4 ounce bass. That bass has a bigger mouth than a +40 inch snook has. Mr.Dulcos has plenty of evidence to prove his 24 pound bass, even has a respected witness and had his scale tested. When it comes to bass fishing these men are in a league of their own, doubt many can say they have caught a +22 pound bass like these men have.
  4. I agree with you, we need shoes that are light, sensitive, and comfortable. I might have to give New Balance a try since topwater fishing is my favorite technique to catch bass on. Currently I am fishing with Nike or Asics running shoes...have you tried fishing with Asics? These shoes are great when you are standing for several hours while fishing.
  5. Would like to see one over 25lbs caught and officially recognized.
  6. Those appear to be new balance shoes, probably decent shoes for bank fishing.Have not tried them, but I can vouch for Nike being good shoes to use when fishing from the shore.
  7. Good subject.George Perry caught his 22 pound, 4 ounce bass on a Creek Chub Fintail Shiner artificial lure and Manabu Kurita caught his 22 pound,5 ounce bass on a live bluegill,at least that's what they told the world. There have been several bass caught that where bigger than 22 pounds, 4 ounces but they don't count for various reasons(caught in a net, illegal techniques, where not properly documented, etc).Paul Duclos caught a 24 pound largemouth bass and Mac Weakley caught a 25 pound,1 ounce largemouth bass, both in California.Cuba has produced several bass over 20lbs,but people there are more concerned about having enough food to eat than having a record. Mexico,Cuba,Japan and maybe certain lakes in Africa probably have a couple world record largemouth bass swimming in lakes as we speak, but it will be quite the challenge to catch one of these bass and have it officially recognized by the IGFA.
  8. I weigh and tape measure(length and girth) all bass that I suspect to be 8 pounds or bigger and rarely bother weighing bass that are clearly smaller than 8 pounds. The reason I don't weigh smaller bass anymore is that 4-7 pounders are common down here ,but a 8 pound or bigger bass is not and they deserve proper documentation in South Florida.
  9. Good subject. No I have never lost my fondness for bass fishing.Never.I truly enjoy the hobby of bass fishing and I will never give it up,regardless what new species of gamefish I catch next. You need to not care so much about tournament bass fishing, it's not even a true measure of how "good" a bass fisherman really is.You need to remember how fun it is just to catch a bass and not worry about less important things.Having fun is the #1 priority in bass fishing, everything else is 2nd place at best.
  10. Congratulations on your new PB!
  11. Here's a couple places you can try for bass fishing in South Florida; Lake Okeechobee Lake Ida Lake Osborne Blue Lagoon Lakes Tamiami Trail Canal Alligator Alley Canal You can also try Saltwater fishing down here and have a shot at catching one of the many big saltwater gamefish we have.
  12. Try fishing at nighttime.
  13. Are you going to fish from a boat or land?
  14. Southeast South Florida has spectacular freshwater fishing for largemouth bass and gives you the opportunity to catch peacock bass.
  15. I use both mono( Berkeley Big Game) and braid(PowerPro),but prefer to use braid when I can get away with it.If the water is extremely clear I use mono more often and mono has the advantage of being more abrasion resistant than braided line.
  16. Congratulations on finishing your first obstacle course race!I did the super spartan race(when I ran this race it was closer to 10 miles from what they told us ) a couple years ago and it was very fun.My favorite part was when I had to climb a vertical rope 20 feet up until I touched the top of the knot and go back down with just my hands. What was your favorite part of the obstacle course?
  17. Interesting subject. My favorite monofilament line is Berkeley Big Game.
  18. Triploid Carp are bred to be sterile in Florida waters and are very common down here in our canals. Many of these canals are connected to lakes,so these carp are able to move around in many of our waterways down here.
  19. I am surprised no one mentioned a Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap,it's a great lure for when water visibility is bad.
  20. Fishing might be a more expensive hobby, but it's definitely worth it! All of the above!
  21. Most of my friends are like your son, they are good at bass fishing but don't care much for it,they much rather go saltwater fishing. Two of the main reasons I enjoy bass fishing so much is that it's very convenient to fish for bass(there's hundreds of lakes, ponds, and canals down here ) and that bass fishing from land is a good type of exercise, especially if you are fishing for several hours.
  22. Cut below the kink in the line and retire your bait.Line is cheap and you don't want to use your future pb on something as simple as line failure .
  23. Saw someone mention snakehead fishing with 80lb test braid,if it works for you do it,but I personally wouldn't go that heavy for those fish.Last month I caught a +30 inch, thick snakehead on 30lb powerpro braid with a 12lb test mono leader(was using a frog, snakeheads love frogs).Fish came in under 1 minute,it's all how you fight the fish, and light tackle fishing is very fun for these fish.
