Will this be a decent jerkbait rod?
Rod should be fine. No braid for me. I prefer #8 or #10 fluorocarbon.

Dedicated Chatterbait Rod
My dedicated chatterbait rod is a Dobyns Champion 736 CB Glass composite rod. That's what it was designed for.

As Bruce Buffer would say: Ladies and Gentlemen....In the blue corner...a jig and t-rig rod standing seven feet five inches and weighing in at 4.2 ounces....with a record of 100 wins and no losses.........fishing out of Longview Washington by way of Sulpher Springs Texas USA........... Doooooobbbbyyyyynnnnnsssss Xtasyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. And the crowd roars. His cut man is a Champion 732SF. Picked up the reels after Thanksgiving.

Flippin hook, do I need some?
Super line is a much heavier wire to eliminate flex. Braid and a five power Dobyns.......... Superline. The 4/0 is perfect for a Range Bug. Use a bobber stopper and you are good to go.

A-Jay's Inaugural Ice Out / Open Water Countdown Thread ~
Drove up to my home lake Sunday to see if the draw down had refilled and it's back up. All protected areas from the wind had ice around the edges. It started to snow on the way back. No sweat A-Jay. This is going to be a banner year for you ! I predict a teener down south and some monster smallies. Anyone who sacrifices a GTO deserves a payback big time.

Reels
Welcome Wyatt !! It's awesome to see someone in your age bracket get into the sport. You don't have to go broke to find good performing reels that will allow you to fish with confidence. You may want to consider buying pre owned reels. You can find some excellent upper tier reels at huge savings that way. When you stay in the 60 to 100 dollar range there are several models that would fit the bill. I currently own reels by Diawa, Lews and Shimano. I used to fish a lot of Abu, Pflueger, Okuma and Quantum and never had a gripe. If you are learning and developing your casting skills, I would steer you toward Diawa because of the cast control system. Simple, easy to set and forgiving to those learning the ropes.

Underrated lures / companies? Are we paying for names?
There are plenty of baits that are affordable and have been around for decades. A couple of examples are the Cotton Cordell Ripplin Redfin, Smithwick Rogue and the Norman Deep Little N and other Norman baits. Here's something crazy. Did you know the Bandit 100-200 has been around for over thirty years? I'm old I guess.

What Am I Doing With All These Spinnerbaits?
You did very well. Good colors and blade configurations. Grab a sevenish MH fast rod and a 6 to something reel and spool up some 12 to 16 line and you are hot to trot. With early spring coming a spinnerbait is a great pre spawn bait for all species especially small mouth.

6th Sense Crankbaits
I love them.

How do boat fishermen really feel about kayak anglers?
I don't have kayak FISHERMAN at all. On one lake there are dozens of recreational kayakers. I show courtesy to all. It's when they use a BOAT launch to set up in groups and settle in groups right in front of the drive on lane that I take issue. The one thing I never want to say while i'm running on plane, " is that what that bump was."

How to get young people fishing?
That's what got me started. A rail road " borrow " pit. Many great memories catching pan fish all summer long.

How to get young people fishing?
Affordable access to a population of catch able fish ! My local city has a park like lake. Twenty years ago it had a significant population of Crappie, Blue gill and a smattering of bass. A local civic club ran a kids day each year to catch stocked rainbows that were caught or died in a short period. They pressured the city to kill off the lake of all species so the stocked trout could hopefully prosper. They did not and a major potential resource for kids was lost. Sad. A base fishing license in Washington is near forty bucks.

Dobyns Fury 702 vs 703
Josh, I see you fish the Potomac and the cover, vegetation is pretty thick. It could be that little extra power is a benefit for you and where you fish. Better to be slightly over powered than under powered. You would be well served by either model.

Dobyns Fury 702 vs 703
I have three buddies who were in the same situation as you are. I let them each play with my 702 and 703 and all three chose the 702SF. They each shared they liked the lighter tip but felt the the rod locked up with enough power to move fish or drive a hook home. They each use braid and leaders and that means firmer hook sets. Something to consider.

What setups are you pitching 3/4 ounce jigs with?
Sounds like you have a couple of set ups that should work good. I just like a bit longer rod so anything over 1/2 gets a 795 Flip. I like flouro over braid but that's just me.

Why pick the Rage Chunk over Rage Craw?
There are those situations when you may want or need a jig with a shorter profile and trim the skirt at the hook bend. This is when the Rage chunk is a great fit. I use both and the Rage bug as a trailer. Each will effect the rate of fall.
