  1. Trailers of some kind only enhance the overall action or movement of a jig. Trailers also allow the angler to increase or decrease the fall rate of the jig. I always looked at a jig as a vehicle for the trailer. Fishing a naked jig doesn't give those options. I'm not aware that bass dismember their prey and certainly don't shy away from eating crayfish regardless of pincers or displaying a defensive stance. Crayfish offer calcium and protein for bass and will eat them when ever possible.
  2. Stumbled on this new Cousins E-glass cranking rod, 7'3" Med Heavy. The price was to good to pass it up. My son was tickled. He loves glass rods.
  3. I really have an attachment to my Diawa SV103 and OG Zillion. I'm also tickled with my Ballistic LT 3000. I've never met a reel I didn't like though.
  4. I'm with Sake95. I had some success wacky rigging a 5 inch Ocho last year. I'm not ready to say it relegates my Senkos to second string though. Another tool in the box.
  5. How does it feel to be a trend setter you sexy beast?
  6. My choice but smaller, 1/0.
  7. 8.79 lbs Fish landing violation. That will be a two minute penalty.
  8. Normans Deep Little N Anything from 6th Sense (thank you A-jay for introducing me to the Curve 55) Luhr Jensen Speed Trap Yo Zuri Rattlin Vibe Strike King KVD Shallow and 1.5 Most of my colors are browns, craws, greens, bluegill-perch with a smattering of reds and shads thrown in.
  9. I read your your entire post. Are you too young to know what you are doing? No. You have taken something, bass fishing, that brings you some joy, is fun, provides a challenge and immersed yourself in the sport to bolster your knowledge base. Take pride in that. With that, don't allow bass fishing to define who and what you are. Don't permit others to use bass fishing as a gauge as to who and what you are. Continue to learn and enjoy the process. I was and am impressed in your post as it shows your ability to formulate your thoughts and communicate them. I know many 17-19 years olds that can barely read at a third grade level and would rather vape than think about their future. Don't over think this deal. At your age you have plenty of time to develop your goals in life. You'll be fine.
  10. I have gone through more plastics than I care to admit. After thirty plus years there seems to be a " formula " that has made my selections much easier. 1) PROFILE: I look to present one of two profiles, shorter and broad body and or longer and slender. Examples of both are Rage Structure Bug/Sweet Beaver and a Brush Hog/Trick Worm/ Senko 2) ACTION: Subtle slow action or an active action. Subtle examples would be a SK Rodent, RI Sweet Beaver, Senko, Trick Worm, SK Ocho. Active bait examples are Rage Structure Bug, RI Man Bear Pig, Yum Christy Critter. 3) PREY IMITATION: Some baits mimic prey better than others and many will cross over. Rage Bug, Rage Craw, Curly Tail Worm, Reaper, Swimming Grub and so on. 4) COLOR: Surprise ! Color is last. Light or dark options. Colors to mimic shades of the local prey. I want to provide contrast based on. water clarity. Basic colors that work in most parts of the country are Black-Blue, June Bug, Green Pumpkin, Pumpkin Blue Swirl, Watermelon Seed or with Red Flake. Pearl, White, Shad or Ayu. Some brighter colors such as pink, Morning Dawn work in finesse presentations such as the drop shot. Hope this helps some.
  11. I dipped the tails of the creature bait in blue Spike It. There is a subtle contrast to the body color and I think it may help. I really like the slender profile and added appendages.
  12. Heavy salt content I guess. My biggest concern in the hook and weight will detract from the bait itself. I'm not giving up on them yet. The concept has merit in my mind.
  13. I picked up a pack of curly tail worms and Creature baits by Magic Lures. The color was listed as Translucent Clear. They feel really soft and the ribs should displace a lot of water. The scent is built right into the material. The web site says a bass' ability to see in water is 12 times greater than a human so i'm giving them a try. They're a little hard to rig if you get some.
  14. Isn't that what Valium is for ?
  15. Thanks A-jay. You'll be right behind me. It's largemouth only for now. Small mouth is still a few weeks away. Launches are still high and dry. You've got some sick Megabass crankbaits to throw.
  16. Replaced the cranking battery in the boat yesterday and i'm headed out Tuesday. Spring is a little late but it's here.
  17. 7'3" MH Fast rod with a 7.3-1 reel spooled with #30 dark green braid. The heavy cover and water clarity do not require a leader but I do color the last couple of feet with a black marker regardless. I throw nothing lighter than 3/8 and adjust the ability to slow it down by the trailer type. The rod a reel can double as a spinnerbait combo but I never use braid on my spinnerbait set ups.
  18. I was channel surfing after the Oregon v. Wisconsin game and saw a new channel added to my cable carrier called RELAXATION or "DogTV.". I checked it out and it's a channel for your dog. It plays images of animals and music to help reduce your dog's anxiety and stress. No joke. I told the wife to come in and check this out because she thought I was pulling her leg. It seemed that absurd. So I switch channels to prove it. Dallas, her Min Pin comes out and watches the channel for about 90 seconds, walks to the french doors off the deck and craps on the rug. Are you kidding me!!! I'm paying for this channel? I hope you guys with man's best friend don't have channel 562 on Direct TV. If you do, get a drop cloth. I'm glad we don't have a pot bellied pig. I'd eat my gun.
  19. It depends on the bait and cover. Fishing heavy pads will cost a fish or two, especially if they can move laterally and wrap tight to stalks. It happens.
  20. I really enjoyed that Glenn. Where did 28 years go?
  21. I will admit, braid today is definitely better than what was out there 15 years ago. I'm slooooowly adapting toward braid for a few applications but had braid on the frog rod for some time.
  22. She asked for a new upright ! No bull John.
  23. Cleaned and lubed everything a sealed the cork. A little line changing and it's time to go. Photos for the insurance agent so I figured, I would post them. What the heck. My wife just walked up and looked at the screen and asked, " are you selling all those?" She's so sweet.
