You are right about one thing, the non CB designated models whether Sierra or Champions will be faster in their actions. If you have a 704CB Champion the 684 is very very similar in feel. The flex moves a bit farther down into the middle third of the blank. My 684CB is probably my least used rod just because the 704CB does so much and I don't need the shorter rod to work baits. Both 704 and 684 CB models are designed as treble hook models and provide that controlled give to reduce tearing out the hook. The spinnerbait is a very unique lure type unlike lures designed to look like forage. But it offers features unlike any other bait albeit the Alabama rig or Chatterbait. File that away. The lure features provide contrast (skirt), flash (blades) vibration signature and water displacement (blade/blades). When you evaluate the situation you can put those features and attributes into play. Example: Smallies are roaming and munching allewives, perch or shad. Match the color scheme, blue glimmer shad and duel nickel willow blades and move the bait at speed and very that speed. Example: Largemouth are are in stained shallow water on flats with non emergent lilly pads, water is cool. Blue gill, sculpins, tad poles are starting stir. Provide a color that provides contrast, blades that displace water and a blade color that provides some flash. That may be a bream skirt, white/chartreuce skirt with double Colorado blades in gold. For the techniques you listed the DC 734C would be on target. The DC 744C is designated as a Jig Special and has, as mentioned, an Extra Fast tip action. The tip is very reactive and the rod locks up pretty quick, hence a jig action. If you can swing an Extreme 744 refurb you will be blown away by the increased sensitivity.
