My future tournament partner
My future tournament partner. He likes fishing jigs and crankbaits. When Ian casts, the bass tremble. He needs to grow into his jersey though. I have to drive the boat. His feet don't reach the hot foot yet.

What is the best way to fish a Scrounger Jig?
I'm the minority. I use a 5 inch Netbait boot tail swimbait. That set up produced some great bites at Clear Lake when slow rolled.

My latest addiction
I had some when I was in Ohio in July. Good stuff.

Accuracy
You are right Tom. Stan lived in Longview and worked for the Daily News for 40 years. He lived on Silver Lake and wrote three books. I've known Stan since 1979 and he was something with a rod and reel. Shag Shegrud was another amazing caster. One of the keys Stan showed me was a more moderate action rod allowed easy loading and unloading during the casting motion. Stan also had millions of hours of practice. He could cast around a corner.

What would you do??
I'm with Catt. Bass feed in periods and different factors trigger those " sprees." Don't spend much time lure shopping to make them bite. Work other locations. Smallmouth are notorious for moving up on a flat edge or shelf from deep water and gorging and then just disappear, vanish, scadattle and so on. It's nice when the bite is on though.

random thought for the day
Same here. It's been 43 years for us too. It's been wedded bliss, waking up to a sweet kiss every day, a partner in life, a gentle touch, support in tough times and laughter in the good times, sharing caring, the joy of children, a twinkle in her eye and a delight in everything we get to do together. She was looking over my shoulder when I started to reply. She's gone now. Probably going to call her mother and talk on the phone for two hours about nothing.

My latest addiction
Can't get it. Made with cane sugar. I'll bet it's awesome. For me, Souix City sarsaparilla. Dad's is right up there. Got some yesterday. Grand kids love it.

Why I chose Daiwa Tatula Type R over Shimano Curado
This was THE reel in the day. You could get them on sale for about 45 bucks. Matched with a Fenwick Lunker Stik 555 and a Mann's jelly worm. Oh the memories.

The fishing tip you wish someone had told you.
Bass live deeper than you think. Get off the bank a little.

New to Bifocals
Don't give up on them just yet. I wear no lines. Your brain will make the adjustment and the reading nod will become second nature. I'm a little older than you. It's not that difficult of a transition. It's prescription sunglasses that will make your you know what pucker up. $$$$$

20 Sept 2016 No Fish & Not Happy ~
That was an outstanding tutorial. Very positive. You showed great calm, maturity, and self resolve. I myself, in your circumstance, would have sat in the bow of my boat in a zen like pose, drenched myself in gasoline and set myself on fire. But that's just me.

Not a convert but...
I've been fishing for 56 years and a tackle junky for for almost 30 and there has never been a period like now where we, as anglers have so many options with so many manufactures. Mid and upper tier products are unbelievable. I fished all Quantum for about 5 years and had great performance. I willed them to my buddy and he is fishing them today. When I visit him annually in Ohio, I tear them down and lube them and away he goes. I found a barely used Smoke 150 this spring ( really really cheap ) and another friend, who likes his Quantums, received it as a thank you for a boat repair he helped me with . It was a nice reel. I hope you enjoy the heck out of them.

I'm Claiming a Record
That's your PB I take it. Get a replica. Should be cheap. They charge the inch. The image is a friend of mine. I haven't been that skinny since I was seven.

Feedback on Daiwa baitcaster
My only experience is with the SV103 and it's been awesome to pitch weightless 5 in Senkos with. I cast 3/16 oz finesse jigs just fine. I was a bit skeptical about the SV hype until I fished one. The combination of Magforce Z cast control and SV spool is effective.

Looking for a new crankbait
If I had to pick one bait for mid range.....Normans Deep Little N. The color pallet is unmatched. They are very affordable. They cast well and hold up. Now that they are made in Guatamala, there may be some question as to how true they run right out of the package. We'll know soon enough. If you truly want to try a bait that's different, look at the Luhr Jensen Hot Lips. Be open minded and don't let the lip design sway you. This bait reaches it's max depth faster than any bait I have ever fished. When you want depth while keeping a smaller profile, this bait flat works. I would love to see A-Jay give this bait a test. This model is the Rodney Dangerfield of crankbaits. I have no affiliation with either brand. Enough for the tutorial.

Crawfish coloring
The spring crayfish on the upper Columbia are almost black and the ends of the pincers are bright blue hence my thread name, Columbia Craw. I take Rage Craws and dye the claws blue. Not as impressive as A-Jay's baits but effective none the less. My last trip on Clear Lake was an eye opener. Crayfish were black and blood red. So I had a custom spinnerbait made up.
