NCAA Tournament
Didn't watch the game but I was pulling for NC cause a buddy of mine went to school there with MJ. Or as he likes to say MJ went to school with him. Nice to see someone different win the championship once in a while.

Spring spinnerbaiting: what are you throwing?
95% of my spinnerbaits were made by a friend who does this as a hobby. This early in the spring in Ohio I throw a 3/8oz. nickel blade Colorado or Indiana white skirted bait.

The Most Amazing Thing You've Ever Caught That Wasn't A Fish!
Dang it!! You beat me to it. I caught a clam once on a T rig Jelly worm. Must have thrown it right into the shell.

Im not understanding frog colors
I do. Well, I also use black frogs and chartreuse frogs, all solid colors. My preferred frog is the Strike King grass frog, which is no longer made. Fortunately I have a big box of em' so I can keep fishing them for many years. As far as new frogs as long as it has a white,or light colored belly it seems to work fine.

Plated, Hello Fresh, Blue Apron..... Anyone else trying these??!!
Never heard of this before reading about it here. Either I need to get out more or I'm too content with my wife having dinner ready when I get home from work. Spoiled I am not?

Who Counts?
I never count fish because to me the numbers don't matter. If I catch one I call it a good time fishing. If I catch none I call it a good time fishing. I do have a tendency to remember the various types of wildlife I encounter as well how beautiful the area I'm fishing is. And I take stock of other fishermen to see if they're courteous or otherwise. I know that for many it's all about the numbers and that's fine. Just not for me.

My creations
So John,it's obvious your lures have what it takes to catch us fishermen. Beautiful creations and your painting skills are top notch. What I want to know is do they catch fish!

Any mechanics on board? Bad gas milage
Vacuum leak in the intake system? CAT plugged up? Also check the front O2 sensor. The rear sensor basically just monitors the catalytic converter system. Unfortunately, the Nissan 2.5L has a history of less than great mileage. Hope you get it figured out.

You tube channels
Ditto! I'm not too old but I could care less about which product some guy I don't even know uses. I mean really? Not trying to be offensive, especially being a newbie here but sometimes I think bass fishermen are no different than any other groupies. Buy this, buy that, wear this shirt, throw that crankbait. No thanks. I like watching bass fishing videos as much as the next guy,but I don't give them but a few seconds once the commercials start.

Florida river fishing
Thanks for the replies. It makes sense now. Hard to tell from the highway how brackish the water is. This isn't the first time I've heard it said if you're a bass fisherman don't fish for snook. I can't wait to catch one!

Florida river fishing
When I drive across the Peace or Caloosahatchee rivers I rarely see many fishing boats. This got me to wondering why not? Granted I'm on I-75 so maybe those aren't the prime fishing spots. For those of you who do fish those rivers, what are you fishing for and what tackle do you use?

Peyton Manning Retires
Peyton has the numbers, can't argue with that. But we all know that numbers are just one part of a complex equation when you start comparing the greatest of all time. I think there are several "greatest" in the past 25-30 years that when the game is on the line any one of them can get the job done. Brady,Manning,Bradshaw,Montana,Favre, all have had the word "greatest" tossed at them at one time or another. That's why I don't buy into anyone being the greatest cause the next greatest is soon to appear on the scene. Every decade or generation sees the next greatest. Again, not taking anything away from Manning because he was a great quarterback. If the only yardstick we use are statistics then he is at the top. If we use statistics and a host of other intangibles then he's one of the greatest. Fun to talk about!

Overcomplicating things
I started out being that guy and started accumulating quite an arsenal of gear. Ambassdeur reels and Lew's speed sticks were all the rage in the early 70's and I spent most of my paychecks on those and huge hip roof tackle boxes that I had a blast filling up. Sometime in the 80's I realized I was buying gear because the pro's said that's what they used to win tournaments, not because those lures would work in the waters I fished. That's when I scaled back and focused more on what worked consistently for me. To this day I still fish lures I've had for decades, along with selectively purchased newer ones. Being a guitar player I've repeated this process with buying guitars. I convinced myself that I needed specialized guitars for different styles of music. Bluegrass requires a Martin dread, folk songs require am OM style guitar, everyone needs a nylon string guitar for certain songs, and that's not even going down the path of electric guitars. I need a Strat and a Les Paul for blues,an arch top for jazz,etc...etc.... I've now reduced the herd to 5 guitars,8 or 10 rods and reels, and 5 or 6 large tackle boxes. I'm sure some would say I still have way too many of everything. Its all relative I guess.

Overstocked pond
I once fished an old gravel pit that was loaded with bass. Very stunted bass. I stopped counting at 75 bass and actually got tired of catching them. Every one of them were so thin that they looked unnatural. The biggest of the day should have weighed over 10lb. The head on that bass was huge yet I don't think it weighed five pounds. On that same outing I caught a Crappie on a plastic worm that was 14 inches long and just as paper thin as the bass. I talked to the owner afterwords and he was adamant that there would be no fish removed from his pond. Called them his pets. Over populated ponds can be very difficult to turn around, sometimes it's best to start over with a good management program. Best of luck in figuring this out.

Do You Support Your Local Bait and Tackle Shop?
Same here. There's a Gander and a Field and Stream both about 40 miles from me but no local shops that I know of. No way that mom and pop can compete with the biggies, which is really sad when you think about it. But that's the way everything is going now.

Left handed vs right handed Baitcasters
I get it. I'm about to buy my first LH baitcaster after 45 years of righties. I'm sure it will feel odd for a while but it really does make sense to switch, especially for fast retrieve lures.

Fishing videos and music
Am I the only one that can't stand a really good bass fishing video ruined by the background music? Maybe I'm turning into that curmudgeon or whatever but I want to watch the video, and I want to hear what the fisherman is saying(usually).I could care less about the screaming guitars and such in the background. I actually like hearing the birds chirping, the geese honking, and especially the sound of a big bass bustin a topwater lure. Its gotten to the point that as soon as I hear the music I'm done. Like I said, maybe it's an age thing cause I used to be a heavy metal head banger but fishin is fishin! Rant over... Ron
