  1. 80 here in Jax. yesterday.Today -70. lows tonite- mid 50s. We haven't had a freeze yet. No wonder so many people move here .
  2. I've caught them on curly tail grubs.Usually chartreuse is a good color. Spoons are good too.You can catch them on bass plugs too. I don't use artificials much anymore though. Live finger mullet! These are best. Mud minnows Even big whole dead shrimp work well at times.
  3. I fight the battle every day of blaming myself but I did make mistakes and I take responsibility for it,but she also made a lot of bad choices ,but she mostly sees it my way now.I try to give it to Him when I get burdened by it.You also have an enemy that will try every day to load you will guilt. It doesn't help and is not productive to blame yourself. I'll be praying for Garrett and you. Please let me know if I can help and keep me posted.Feel free to send me a pm if you want. Mike
  4. Sorry to hear that.My daughter has had drug addictions for years.I have prayed and kept loving her even though. She is slowly getting better. With her,the successes have come slowly over a long period of time instead of all at once. Enabling can be a problem. If they can stay home and have all their needs met and remain an addict then they usually will . Without sounding like I'm preaching,I recommend the Lord.He knows and cares. He is making the difference for my daughter and me and I'll be praying for your son and you.Whats his name?
  5. One time I was walking around outside the house with my loaded 12 gauge.I stupidly pulled the trigger for some reason, thinking the safety was on. It blew through my wood garage door and a pellet hit the gas tank on my little 3 horse kicker And I was taking my boss fishing with it the next day! My wife had just gone out of the garage right before that. She actually asked me was I shooting at her! Still ashamed of that.I have always been all about gun safety.Just shows what can happen if you get careless.
  6. Freshwater: Bass Bream:( all varieties ) catfish. Saltwater: Redfish Flounder Sheephead And Whatever else I catch. There is no kind of fishing I've done I don't like. 3 main areas I fish: Lakes/ponds Inshore saltwater Surf fishing In that order. The only kind I'm terrible at is freshwater trout fishing.( unless I use corn lol )
  7. I read an article that said they are still coming but not until 2018. They just opened one at Gainesville which is I/2 hour closer than Savannah.
  8. I mostly do left hand spinning and right hand casting I don't understand why,but it feels normal that way. I am most comfortable with fighting the fish with my right and reeling left. Reeling feels natural for me either way,but I am somewhat less comfortable fighting a fish with my left.
  9. Have a vote about it.Go with The vote. Its better to please the majority than the minority.I f the minority doesn't like it and leave, the problem is solved.IF they take people with them, get new members.
  10. Dwh, I had a similar experience to yours. When I was 20 or so and still at home I would sometimes wake up and hear this ticking.I had actually heard it for weeks maybe without really realizing it,if that makes any sense. So it woke me one night and I purposely got up and tried to find where it was in the room.I finally tracked the sound to an old ammunition box that I had books in.My aunt and uncle in NC would get the boxes somewhere and restore them,( they were wooden). Not sure how old they were. The sound I heard was just like someone clicking their fingernails together.I remember trying to figure out what it was and never could. No spooky faces though.I put it behind a closet door so I wouldn't hear it but I still could slightly . So I went off to college.About a year later I needed something to put books in so I brought that same box from home, forgetting about that ticking.I woke up one night and guess what I heard? It was ticking again! Whatever it was was in that box. I told myself it was termites, but I never saw any sign of them. So I never saw anything else about it that scared me I just wanted to know what it was. About a year later I trusted the Lord as my Savior and NEVER HEARD THE TICKING AGAIN.So I'm sure the ticking was a demon trying to scare or distract me,Since I Dont believe in ghosts.
  11. Otters are gluttons and they kill for the fun of it,eat a couple mouthfuls, and move on to the next fish.So he cleaned out my lake. But he quit coming after a few winters. So the fry have now grown up. They don't seem to bother the bass population.Bass are too quick for them. I could of shot it but my wife came out and hollered!!. Don't worry about the rambling. Its entertaining until someone gets around to responding to the tournament.
  12. Yeah I used to fish big lakes when I had my bass boat.Just takes more time. There are some lakes about an hour's drive from me that are great but the last 10 years or so has been hard for me to have enough time to travel much.So I fish my lake a lot. As for catfish I got a 22 pound channel here . I don't have any( many )? big cats anymore due to an otter .But I've got plenty of nice eating sized ones again now.
  13. I did- by the measurement method it was around 9 pounds. The confirmed lake record is 13 1/2. Unconfirmed record is 14.
  14. As some of you know,I live on a small lake in Jax. FL. I was thinking about having a small, friendly tournament here.I have organized and run a tournament before but Id like to get some input from y'all . Not talking about big boats.I already have 2 yaks, a bass hunter, and Jon boat that can be used. It would also give bass resource members in the area a chance to get together . I'd probably limit it to 5-6 boats due to the fact that the lake's only 16 acres. If anyone's interested let me know, and feedback is appreciated in advance. Mike
  15. Either one.I use Culprit worms,. Manns jelly worms,Zoom trick worms .I caught my biggest on a Mann's,which has a spear- shaped end on the tail.Caught my 3rd biggest on a red shad culprit, which is a curly tail.C aught a 6 last year on the trick worm, which has a straight tail.I fish them all with as little weight as possible.
  16. Looks nice but uhh, wheres the TP?
  17. I have wade fished lakes and rivers full of big gators and water moccasins ,and have hunted thickets where diamondbacks and wild hogs abound. But big spiders make me jump or shout.Go figure.
  18. ^^ that, but I also do well on big worms in the winter fished SLOW.I personally dont do well in N FL.on spinnerbaits in winter but I'm sure it would work better the further south you go.
  19. I can relate to what you're going through, but Probably can't help much . I have mysteries on my lake as well, that I can't figure out either. Everthing was great at my lake until we had a fish kill in 2011.ALL the mature bass and bream died. The weeds were killed too quickly, and the result was the above, due to drastic oxygen loss. There were more dead fish at the other end of the lake,so I didn't realize how bad it was for awhile. So the bass population has recovered well, although there are a higher number of skinny fish now.The bream population has not recovered as well.I think it's because bream are the main bass forage and they are keeping the population down.We now have a new co. spraying since Sept. The weeds have been greatly reduced again .( the right way with no fish kills )The fishing is different though.I m also catching less bass overall this year and NO big fish since spring which is puzzling.Im also catching only 1 kind of catfish and there are 3 kinds in the lake. As for your lake,Im sure the cormorants aren't the problem.I think it's probably that the fish have changed due to the weeds going away.If the lake is being sprayed regularly, the fish will sometimes not feed well for a few days after the spraying, depending on what was applied. The only other reason I can think of is a fish kill . We did have an otter come in Dec. for a few years and he kept the catfish cleaned out but I saw no change in the bass fishing. Im looking into getting the game and fish people in to do an Electro shock so we could determine fish populations and then develop a plan for possible restocking. Maybe they could do that in your lake if they do that in your state.
  20. Thought it was just me.This phone is kind of mysterious at times.I ts probably the user most of the time !?
  21. I fish still but not quite as much.I usually get out hunting some .I do home projects mostly outside stuff that I put off until cooler weather.I also clean and reorganize my fishing room, and tackle boxes, and oil reels.I get a break from mowing the yard etc, until March. So My goal is to finish all my projects before spring before the lawn maintenance kicks in. But winter fishing is still good here.Caught my pb on Dec 31 !!
  22. I used to fish any remote lake without a second thought.I usually had a gun anyway, but not due to worrying about danger from people. In the last 15 years I've always carried.Sad story, and sad that things have gotten this way.God bless their families.
  23. Anyone fishing? For me its been a little slow.Im catching a few 2-3 pound fish in my home lake.
  24. I've fished a couple of trout farms in the NC mountains. The last time was around 5 years ago.Took 2 grandkids. The sign out by the hard road said 2.50 per pound. So we go up the holler and the farm is at the end of the road.We get bait, walk over to the pond and immediately start catching em.You couldn't help but catch one nearly every cast.In about 10 minutes I'm thinking we're about at our limit for the cash I had ( 40.00 )So we walk back to weigh in and find that we've already caught 55.00 worth.( We can't throw any back according to their rules )Then I find that the price is actually 4.00 per pound!!!. So we're way up the holler, they don't take a card, and I told the worker about the sign.He agrees and tells me to give him what I have and leave. So about that time I turn around and my 6 year old granddaughter is coming back across the road with another fish.! The worker says git! here comes the owner. So we load up as the owner is approaching and looking like he wants to talk.I don't make eye contact and take off. Had to explain to the kids why we left so fast.Felt kind of dishonest but it wasn't my fault they hadn't changed the sign!!
