  1. I remember those days. You didn’t want to miss a chance at a deer or hog on the way to or from school. We had numerous bad fistfights but don’t remember anyone pulling a knife. Police were never called. We did have a stranger walking around one day in our high school. Our dean of students, Dr McCall, ( who was a descendant of Osceola the seminole cheif) confronted the stranger. He was in his late 50s, and the stranger in his 30s.The man told him he could go anywhere he wanted in the school because as a taxpayer he paid Dr McCall’s salary. Dr McCall invited him off school property for a fistfight ( he loved his students and was trying to get him off school property ) The man agreed and they went across the road, jumped the barbwire fence , and it was on. Many of the students heard about it and went out to watch, including teachers. In a little while the man was seen limping away with his head down at an angle taking him as far from the school as possible . Dr McCall came in without a scratch, smiled at us , and went back to work. Police were not called. Problem taken care of…
  2. I broke my right thumb once and learned to cast left handed. I could reel righty with my fingers sticking out of the plaster cast. As soon as my thumb healed, I went back to casting and fighting with my right and reeling lefty. I remember when I learned to cast with my left I kept casting with a 2 oz weight on and after awhile it was easy.
  3. Yeah, that’s the only bait I have by them. I tried to coax another strike with it for a little while this morning with no success..
  4. Born in 60. I remember: Kiddy pool in the back yard. No streetlights until I was 8-9. Deep Woods were 100 yards from the house then. Fireflies in July The car had no Ac . We played baseball year round, except a month or two off playing football. We had lots of war games. • Cowboys and Indians • Rebels and yankees ( nobody wanted to be the yanks, so we made all the little kids be them.) • Playing ww2 navy men. The platform on the swing set was our machine gun nest… Army men wars Red white and blue footballs. Baseball Cards ! I was the TV channel changer of our 4 stations… Listening to Braves games on the radio at night. Getting spankings at school and another one at home… Eating meals together, and watching Tv together before bed. Working in our yard and garden EVERY saturday, then watching the baseball “ Game of the week “ or going fishing. Leaving after breakfast in the summer to go play with all my friends at the preacher’s down the road and staying all day except for lunch. Church every sunday unless you had a fever or visibly threw up - same for school- NO EXCEPTIONS… Drinking water out of a hose. No bike helmets Never used seatbelts. Learning to drive a stick with a 3 speed cub tractor, and an old 3 on a tree farm truck… First Real Date: Susan Archer. Was so nervous I couldn’t say anything. It didnt go well… Fishing , swimming etc. all day at the lake I now live on. 8 track players Buying chew and alcohol nearly anywhere after I was 15. Not saying that was a good thing… You could pull over and hunt pretty much anywhere without anyone caring, and usually never seeing anyone anyway. I could go on and on indefinitely…
  5. I think it’s on 30 pound power pro.. It has essentially the same hook I have on my top water frogs. I didn’t really get a chance to see what the hooks could do, because the fish missed… Trebles aren’t very practical right now due to all the summer weeds in the lake…
  6. So Ive had one for over a year now. Never had a fish sniff at it. Ive noticed a 4-5 pound bass hanging around my dock, and he will occasionally blast a bream, especially when Im feeding them. So today I had the live target on, threw some bread out, cast into the feeding bream, and BOOM, the bass clobbered it…but missed. Couldnt get another strike. So now Ive got more confidence with it. Wondering what your experiences are with it, how do y’all fish it , etc. ?
  7. I use them on a light finesse combo with 8 pound test and a 1/0 hook T rigged weightless. Caught a 6 1/2 pounder on one .
  8. I live on a small lake as well. I can and need to cull smaller bass because they overpopulate quickly. I have found that I can’t keep up with them as it is and always has been a very fertile lake for bass. I do the best I can. I dont think with a 100 acre lake you can catch and keep enough to matter, unless you devote your whole life to it… I dont keep anything over 16 inch . I never get rid of shiners because the more you have, the bigger the bass can and will grow. I second the motion Dwight had. Bass love shiners like most people love steak- they cant resist it very long if it’s presented properly…
  9. Me three…Esp. these 3: 1. Weightless T rigged Fluke 2. Weightless T rigged senko 3. speed worm with a little weight , T rigged. I have at least 5 others I regularly use that are always on hand.I call them my “ circle of trust “ baits…
  10. I catch a lot of bullheads, and they have a surprisingly strong bite…
  11. I met an afghanie man within a month after the attack. He began apologizing to me , with much feeling, about the attack and said he was totally against it.
  12. I had driven out early that morning to a small town to leave some equipment to be worked on. I remember it being a beautiful morning and nice relaxing trip. When I got back to I-10 there, I stopped at a gas station to get a coffee. The cashier was watching it on TV as I paid. She said a plane had crashed into the world trade center. I had not heard of the WTC before to my knowledge having never been to new york. I said, must be some pilot that didn’t know what he was doing , or something like that. So I drove the 30 miles back and had to stop and get some lawn chemicals at the store. Right as I walked in , the rep ( A red haired woman named sharon) was watching it . As we were talking, we watched the 2nd plane crash. Then we knew it was an attack. I got off early that day and watched TV the rest of the evening until very late. I remember being so angry I was going to enlist , but they said I was too old.
  13. Ive never used a snap once for any application in bass fishing. I use one occasionally in salt water fishing.
  14. Ours was a family event for years. We would fill up the better part of a row . Everyone went, from the youngest grandkids to us older folks. We started with the grandkids when they were all around 5-6. They loved it more than we did… My one rule was that we leave just before the end to avoid dealing with the crowds leaving…
  15. Just found out my wife has skin cancer. They are supposed to cut it off in october. We’re concerned because we don’t know if its spread. They moved like sloths to ever get her in to get a sample of it in the first place . Now, another 6 weeks waiting to have it removed. It is the squama ? kind. Sorry for those suffering with it. Offering my prayers for Aron and others affected by it…
  16. Made 3-4 casts in a new work route pond and caught this little guy. Then it started lightning too close and I had to quit?
  17. A canoe is harder for me to fish out of. I recently picked up one for 25 dollars from a nieghbor that wanted it out of her yard! It leaks a little but still… I have an old kayak that leaks bad- got it for 75 . That nieghbor didnt tell me it leaked- so they got over on me, even though they we’re supposedly my friends… Im like you , Im completely at home in fresh water, and saltwater inshore. Offshore I get a little nervous esp. the smaller the boat. My fishing son is the one that had boats that could go offshore, and he was almost a dare- devil with it. I would always breathe a sigh of relief when we made it back.
  18. This isnt classic country, but it actually shows that there’s hope for new country. It’s my new recent favorite.
  19. Yeah, we definitely dont need any more inexperienced “captains” battling waves around here. This illustrates how NOT to drive a boat, should have never had that boat out there in the first place…
  20. A frog, fluke, senko, and speed worm.
  21. Yeah, Ive only been twice in 6 weeks, not counting an hour here and there bank fishing. Went yesterday and really enjoyed it. Absence makes the heart grow fonder I guess.
  22. Dang , how tall are you?
  23. That’s really cool. He was so versatile and could pick anything and could sing too. And he was funny too, from acting like a woman to the funny songs and facial expressions. We watched probably every episode of Hee Haw … that and the Duke boys…
