  1. Yes they are not cheap, but if you compare a top of the line kayak to a top of the line Jon the price difference is substantial. Compare apples to apples.
  2. My big concern about the power pole is having a 8ft pole sticking up when your trolling. Seems like it would be hitting tree limbs. Also, the lakes I fish have steep banks. I would never get to use it. It's not uncommon to have a twenty foot drop off right at the bank. Otherwise, I would love to have one.
  3. I had to make the same decission last year and I went with the yak due to budget. A fully rigged Bass Yaks Jackson Big Rig with 45lb trolling motor, fish finder, anchor trolley, anchor wizard, batteries, etc...all the fixings, cost far less than a Jon boat. The advantages: no need for a trailer, handles wind better than a Jon, can launch in skinny water, Disadvantage: top speed is 6mph, limited trolling time, no room for 30lb catfish
  4. I heard one on tv from Hawaii that said "never say your going fishing; just say your going to have fun".
  5. X3 Roostertail (white is my favorite). I've caught a 6lb bass and a 12lb cat on them. I don't know anything that won't bite a Roostertail. Sometimes I'll throw one just to see if the fish are biting. If they don't bite it's not worth fishing.
  6. I agree with the first cast curse. I also believe wind from the east fishings a beast. wind from the west fishings the best. Oh, and if I see deer grazing its a good sign.
  7. Last week I saw a carp climb three feet up a laydown. Made a heck of a racket.
  8. Yeah, my PB (8lbs) was from a pond I could cast across.
  9. Way to go!
  10. I think not. While the GPS trolling motors are very nice, they still drift. The PPs/Talons are rock solid.
  11. Geez, what a dream rig!
  12. My buddy says " get the net" every time he gets a bite! i tease him relentlessly.
  13. Comfort is key. If you get something your not comfortable in you'll be cursing the day you got it and talking about all those idiots in kayaks. The good thing about kayaks is that the initial cost is the biggest hit. Most mods and add ons are DIY or cheap. If you can get something you can stand in you will appreciate it. Three hours in a boat without standing can be difficult. If you need to wait and save money you may be happier.
  14. Doctors, nurses, EMTs, plant managers, cops, firemen, factory workers, security guards, and anyone else that works the night shift. Know your neighbors and treat them kindly. Too many Americans have become so self centered they can't see past their own little worlds. Hello!?! There are other people in the world! Sorry, sounds like I was ranting again...
  15. My wife bought a pontoon boat that will be upside down until the day we take it to the junkyard. At a minimum you should pay twice the monthly note. Or better yet, pay cash!

Hey Rich, I can relate to your situation, fortunately there is no cure, and it is a costly addiction. Good luck with your struggles!
  17. I'm sure age has nothing to do with it....
  18. I'm no computer expert. But I'll say I dislike it immensely. So much so that my next computer will be an Apple. My computer slowed and I can't find fecal matter! My photoshop worked before the "upgrade", now it hardly works at all.
  19. Sorry, I don't have an answer for you but I was wanting to here some of the "cons" before I purchase one. Why can't you " do it in shallow water"?

You've got a good point. A hook to the eye could ruin your day.
  21. Really? did you see my Pic! You couldn't be further from the truth! Cool? I don't think so.

I'm with you. I buy like six at a time from Wally World. I keep two in the boat, two in the truck and two in my wife's car. I'm too rough on them to buy the good ones.
  23. Lure selection varies widely depending on the lake. It's best to ask local fishermen "what's working". I my neck of the woods it seems to change every year. One time it's electric chicken, next time it's Cajun cricket.... But you can never go wrong with minnows.
