Slab Slobber Its a crappie scent but works for bass also. Does it work?...I think so, and that's what counts.
  2. Sometimes, try the unexpected. On my last trip, all the signs said fish deep. Caught a few then during a lull I tied on a top water. Boom! I found them. Suddenly we were getting blowups one after the other. Sometimes you just have to experiment.
  3. Hell, I wore Gene Simmon shoes back in the 70s! They called them "stacks". Had about four inch heels on em.
  4. There is hope. I have a nephew that was doing the same stuff. Spent time in jail and recovery. He will always struggle because of it, but he has been clean and productive for ten years now. I believe the thing that saved him was that my parents (his grandparents) never gave up on him. And their strong Christian faith kept them from folding under the hardships.
  5. Mounted between the skid plate and the yak. Easy manufacturing. Works great.
  6. I'm in So. IL. and this fall has been terrible. Nobody knows why. Everyone I talk to says the same thing. They've got to be eating something! I just haven't figured it out.
  7. Yeah, I think that's what they are...gizzard shad. Its weird how they suddenly surface and the bass quit bitting. Last week fishing was fine, this week nodda.
  8. I just fished three mornings in a row without a single bite. I couldn't even get stupid small ones to bite. Weather was somewhat unstable, but what I noticed was the shad surfacing all over. Every time my lure hit the water ten shad would jump. I tried all types of lures from top to bottom. Could the bass be gorged on shad and not gonna bite?
  9. Three days in a row without a bite down here. Weather changed and they got lockjaw. Shad popping all over the lake. Tried finesse, spinners, tops, worms, flukes, jigs and a few other things. NOTHING!
  10. Junk box. But at $13 ea I'll have to keep one in my Plano. There's too many people that like them for it to be a gimmick. I'm just saying the baby torpedo works better for me.
  11. From all the testimonies I've read they must be good baits. But, having bought three of them myself, I've found that the Heddon Baby Torpedo works much better for me. It has the same buzz bait action with much less splash on entry. The Torpedo blade has better action and is a lot cheaper. My ploppers will be relinquished to the gimmick box.
  12. Nanah nanah boo boo I can't hear you! ? Lighten up cali dude, just picking at ya...?
  13. Just because you have a peddle drive it doesn't mean you have to use it...just like my e-yak, when I get to the thick or shallows, I pull it out of the water and paddle. Best of both worlds.
  14. You can't go anywhere without the "purest" chiming in.?
  15. I only laugh because I can relate...
  16. Idk what type kayak you had but I carry 4 poles, a full sized tackle bag, anchor, spud pole, drinks, snacks, trolling motor and group 24 battery, paddle, brush grabbers, scale, tools, fish finder, minnow bucket and a few more misc items and I still have empty compartments. Besides a keg of beer what else do you need? Also, what I've seen is Jon boats catching the wind while the wind blows right over my kayak. If you compare "apples to apples" on pricing, a fully rigged kayak is far cheaper than a Jon boat. Safety is another concern. I think Jon boats are safer than kayaks due to visibility. I personally won't go out on the big waters with a kayak. And you can't walk very far in a kayak and it's really difficult when you have to pee. No matter what you decide, spend your money wisely, don't buy cheap, do some research and you will be happy with either one.
  17. Yep, I do the same, every week. Hoping for something new. I walk through..."got that, already have that, don't need that, got three of those, ....etc..."
  18. The thing that helped me the most was learning how to deal with backlash. Typically, I can clear one under a minute. Even the pros get backlash. It's how they manage it that makes them pros.
  19. Ok, my kayak stories. I was heading back to the ramp in my kayak. I'm following the shoreline about 75 yards out because the waves were white capping. Suddenly this ol fart on the bank starts hollering and cussing "YOU GOT MY LINE!". I knew he was crappie fishing and I was surprised since I was so far out. So I killed my motor and raised it. No line. He's still cussing and raising Cain. Turns out he had caught a fish about the time I passed him. I left him a few nice words as I went about my way. At another lake, two guys were bream fishing at the ramp. I pull up to load my boat and they start fussing and giving me the evil eye. There's only one ramp on the lake! What the hell did they expect me to do?! I gave them a friendly gesture to the gun on my hip and they shut up.
  20. Make sure your spool is properly filled. A half filled spool will cast about half the distance. ( Then again, an overfilled spool will likely backlash more often)
  21. Been there. Yup, it sucks. Bugs, heat and poison ivy. Lovely. Your kids won't remember a dang thing you teach em but they will remember you being there. And that's what counts.
  22. More often than not I'm the one telling them what their biting.
  23. Tell me this...sometimes I paddle up to other fishermen and strike up fishing conversations (I'm really trying to find out what's biting). Most are glad to talk, others are standoffish. I never stay but a minute. Am I wrong for interrupting them?
  24. I'm with ya on that. The only time I stand is when I need to stretch my legs. There's nothing I can't do sitting (except peeing, that can be difficult sitting).
