  1. I first tried jig fishing last year. I was skeptical but my buddy convinced me to keep trying. I learned to feel the bottom and maintain contact with the jig. Differentiating some bites from the bottom can be difficult at times. Other times they just smack it hard. He also taught me that if you miss a strike let the jig sit where it is and they will come back for it. After a season of practice I feel I have it down pretty good but I still have a lot to learn. Everyone should learn to fish jigs. It’s a game changer.
  2. KVD was ticked. He thought he had it in the bag, until he saw which lake they were fishing.
  3. I take four. Two on deck and two in the holders. I’d take five but I just don’t have a place to hold it.
  4. For me, anything over 10 is uncomfortable. Anything over 15 I don’t go. It’s not that the yak can’t handle it, it just gets to be a pain.
  5. I prefer something that will fold down flat. i.e. ram mount. 98% of the time I fish daylight and having something standing up is just another thing to snag my line. The yak attack light/flag lays flat and when I need it it’s always within arms reach.
  6. I’ve never seen a side mount work properly. Too many inherent problems. Stern mount is the way to go. Bow mounts work too.
  7. I’m in the same boat. Started the same day and today is the first day that I’ve felt human. Still weakened but up and moving.
  8. Try a t-rigged fluke bounced on the bottom, or b/b jig.
  9. That is true because its a hill and not a lake. It blocks the north winds and gets the most sunlight. On a lake there will be longer shadows on the south side. Btw, that’s why most CW winter camps were on the south side of hills and north side of water.
  10. In the northern hemisphere the sun is located in the southern half of the sky, thus the suns rays are projected toward the north sides of a lake.
  11. Normally jig w/craw. But after today, t-rigged fluke.
  12. Yeah, and they turn fluorescent green during a spawn.
  13. I’ve caught them on occasion in my favorite small lake. They don’t seem to over populate and they don’t affect the quality of fish in the lake because there’s plenty of biggens.
  14. You should be beach combing after the hurricanes! Lots of history in north Florida. Search old maps for homesteads, road crossings, railroad stops, bridges, campsites.
  15. I did it for about ten years. I’ve got quite the collection of civil war stuff. It’s a great winter hobby. Finding new places to hunt can be challenging.
  16. I'm not familiar with tunnel hulls. What's the reason?
  17. Crappie fishing from a bridge 20' above the water. I caught two nice 17" crappie. It was quite a struggle landing them from that height. On my third catch, a heron decided he needed the crappie more than me and proceeded to attack my crappie in mid air. Me trying to land the fish while swatting at the heron looked like I was dancing around acting like a fool.
  18. Thanks guys. That's kinda what I figured. I appreciate the reply.
  19. How does a transducer work when mounted on a trolling motor? I understand the transom mount because it's relatively stationary. But if the trolling motor is constantly moving on axis, how do you get a side image or accurate down image? Or does it only work when the motor is still?
  20. KVD sexy dawg jr., my new mostist favoriteist lure of the year.
  21. I've had great results with the spook so I thought I would try the Chug n spook. This thing sucked! It would not walk and didn't even pop. It dove every time I moved it. I'm using 12lb mono on a med rod (same one I use for the spook). Could I have gotten a bad one or should I fish it different than the spook?
  22. Went before the eclipse and got four over fives on Big Bite Baits tilapia lizard.
  23. Last two trips, different lakes, I've been throwing walking baits only to have bass slapping at them. I mean a lot! I've had them slap it two or three times. Some of which have been pretty big blow ups. Anybody else experiencing this lately?
