  1. Oh yeah! Tore em up on a frog yesterday! Eleven fish all 3-4 lbs.
  2. I just had some experience with this choice. I got a new setup and wanted to try 17lb seguar fluorocarbon. I also have the same setup with braid. The fluorocarbon blew up on me twice. I've never had that problem with my 12lb fluorocarbon setups. The 17lb is stiff. Needless to say, I'll be switching it over to braid and I will not use any Fluorocarbon over 12lb.
  3. Oh hell yeah! Love my yak! Game changer.
  4. I don't compete but I do have a motor and I can tell you on large lakes the pedal drives have a great advantage. They can travel greater distances faster. That being said, if you put a poor fisherman in a pedal drive, it's no advantage at all. As far as competition goes, there should be different classes.
  5. Yeah, I fish using a trolling motor. It's definitely a unfair advantage. I catch WAY more fish than my paddle buddies. I can spot lock, I never get tired, I can control troll, I can pull biggens out of cover, etc... Probably a good thing I'm not interested in tournaments because I'd kick all their arses.
  6. Not bad for Southern Illinois! Anything over 5# is rare.
  7. Gotta love that kayak bassin!!!
  8. What do you do with all those carvings? And do you take requests?
  9. And we should pay for it with a tariff on all Chinese imports. I am still convinced that they did this on purpose. Just like they used lead paint on children's toys. They are ruthless.
  10. Yep and that's also what almost won the last episode until Ott made his move.
  11. There goes that whopper plopper again! Man, I gotta fish those more often.
  12. I haven't been there yet but I've heard there were good fish there. I would love to take my kayak up there since it's a 10hp lake/lakes.
  13. I mounted two 1" fiberglass poles on my 22' pontoon. I use it for cat fishing. Works for winds up to 20mph, but I wouldn't want to use it if I was moving around a lot. Another point you might consider is the lake bottom. Some bottoms are too hard while others are too soft
  14. I fish a big rig and it is a beast. I put mine on a trailer. The ATAK looks like a good yak ( several of my buddies have them). Both are quality. It's definitely a hard choice. But I don't have any complaints with the big rig.
  15. Army Chinook units at Bragg and Korea, then Air Guard in Memphis.
  16. I never fish tournaments, but I am up to a friendly wager at a boondoggle. Mostly its just bragging rights.
  17. I had never seen the frog trailer on the buzz bait. I'm going to try that.
  18. Yeah, Otts definitely one of the best. But that young guy tore em up on the whopper plopper. I always root for Watson but his mouth is bigger than his fish.
  19. I'm always respectful because I never know whether they might be my rescuers.
  20. Dang, put a pole in his hand and he'd look just like me!
  21. Yep, lost my mind this week. Haven't fished all week. Been watching tv shows and dreaming. Ice is gone down here but the winds have been 20mph and cold. It's so bad, I've actually started doing house work. Man, this boredom is killing me!

  23. Cedar and Grassy are deep clear water lakes with lots of submerged grass. It's hard to throw anything open treble, but it can be done. Worms, flukes and top water work for me. The lake "expert" I go with almost exclusively fishes worms. Shoot me a pm when you go and we could boondoggle.
  24. Have you thought about southern Illinois? We have 3 10hp lakes really close to each other. Google Cedar Lake, Little Grassy Lake and Devils Kitchen Lake.
