For those not imitating trout
Oh I fish perch patterned baits all the time. Trust me, I have a freemind about color. I catch quite a few fish on firetiger but in all of my years in southern Califorinia I have yet to see one of the hot little cats swimming around my lake They have trout and other patterns but I don't like the way they look with this bait's profile. I have plenty of swimbaits that have profiles and patterns that match the bait out here (trout, bass, carp, stripper, and bluegill) so I have no desire to try this out here. I am sure it would work here but it just seems like it would rock in the Perch filled waters.

For those not imitating trout
Now if I had Yellow Perch in my waters I would be throwing this guy. What do you guys in the northern waters think?

Abu Garcia Revo S reel
I am curious as well. I have the SX-HS and love it! I am curious to know what the S is like after a season.

New Cali. State Record!!!
I may be wrong but I am pretty sure that a fish has to be killed and molded to make fiberglass reproductions. You kill one fish so that hundreds of others will be released. You can do it with a 9-10lb Larry because there are existing molds, but a Sally of that size may be another matter.

Cool, thanks! Figured something like that but I wasn't positive. Thanks to all of you guys that make this site possible. By far the best bass forum on the net!

One for the mods
;D Those sponsers must be paying a lot to have those banners on here. Seriously though, I am not really interested if you make money off of it, I just wonder how you always manage to be on here. I know all forums need mods but how does it work? Do you guys have set hours that you guys rotate through? If it's none of my buisness then nevermind. I am just curious.

One for the mods
Sorry if this has been brought up before but when on earth do you guys fish? I mean, the only time I have a chance to get on here is when I am all caught up at work. If I am not at work I am either fishing, golfing, surfing, doing house work, or something. Do you get paid to be a mod? Please don't get me wrong. I am in not suggesting anything negative here, I know you guys have lifes, I just can't imagine where you guys get the time.

First good Rod
There are a number of good rods in your price range and Shimano has an even better replacement policy than Loomis, over the counter! If I were in your shoes I would spend the $30 dollars extra but buy a Falcon Cara, not the Shimano. That is if your local shop has them.

Pacific Bay TICH Guides and Okuma EVx rods??
I agree with David. I have only built three rods but they all came out beautiful and I only used Fuji. I ordered componets from american tackle and Pac Bay and after seeing them I threw them away instead of returning them fearing that they would end up on someone else's rod. But seriously, I won't buy a rod off the rack or wrap a rod without Fuji equipment. PacBay has been around a long time and many manufactures use their stuff but I personall like Fuji.

Big Sluggo's.
Yeah, Zoom perfected it Love their fluke. Go to Lunkercity.com. They sell them direct and they have a ton of colors and sizes. I bought some of the 10 inchers from BPS about 8 or 9 years ago.

Bass Grabber
There is a wire on the bottom for trailers. I get better hook ups with a single hooked Kanji frog than any of the frogs with the double EWG so I am personally not crazy about a double hooked jig. Now instead of the power of your hookset pushing a single hook through one brush guard, the force is split over two. They also say it is great because it doen't roll over but I never have that problem with jigs anyways. I am all about trying new things but I am not impressed with this one... yet.

Wacky Rig question
I do the same. I can catch 6-8 fish on one Senko by using an O-ring as compared to 1-2 fish with out one. You can buy one of the tools they sell to put the o-ring on or what I like to do is rub a little megastrike on the bait and the o-ring will slide right to the middle. Just put your hook under the o-ring instead of through the plastic. Works great. For smaller worms you can also use those dental rubberbands people use with braces.

jerkbait?????
I have had some luck fishing the sinking Duel Crystal Minnow just above the top of grass. I cast is out, count it down and begin a constant twich. The bait pops up each time I twich, sinks down to just touch the grass and I pop it free then repeat. Never had much luck with this from shore but from a boat it can be great.

most underrated lures/baits
I don't know about the rest of the country but down here in southern california the most underated lures are any of the OG baits like jitterbugs, Rebel Cranks and pop-r's, Bomber long A's and model A's and the like. So many people out here are so caught up with Lucky Craft and the like that they think a bait that costs less than $15 wont catch fish. Which is fine with me, their loss. Personally I think the most underated baits across the board are the Berkely Frenzy baits.

Big Sluggo's.
I have nver used the big sluggo but I have used the 10" Fin-S-fish in the rainbow trout color and have had a lot of hits on it but I haven't hooked one... yet. I am sure they will hit your sluggo.

Drop Shot Help
All of the above advice is good but don't limit yourself. I don't care what anyone says but there are no rules for fishing a drop shot. I don't know of any soft baits that don't work when presented in this fashion. I have caught plenty of fish using worms that are 8"+ and even full sized brushhogs. I am not saying that the little baits don't work, they work great. Just don't get stuck in the same box that everyone else is in. Experiment. Also, since you are fishing from the shore, you may want to use a longer leader to make up for the angle of your line on a far cast. You may have your bait 12" above the sinker but when you make a long cast in water that is less then 10ft, your bait will be much closer to the bottom. I'm not saying that it is a bad thing, but I do know a guy out here that uses a leader that is 3ft+ when fishing shallow water from shore, and he catches fish. I am telling you this because if you are Drop shotting, more than likely you are already using the text book skinny worms and light line and being that it isn't working, I suggest you mix it up a bit. Just my advice, take it for what it is worth. Good luck.

Favorite Crankbaits
Right now it is a deep baby N in the Bummble Bee color. But If I only had one crank it would be a bluegill colored DT-10.

pic
I can't complain about someone keeping a fish now and then when I killed one just the other day. Fish took the jig in the back of it's mouth and it must of hit some vein going to its gill or something cause it was bleeding and after about five minutes in the well one Gill was pink instead of red. What I am trying to say is that we all kill them from time to time and I would rather see the fish dead in a frying pan then floating next to the shore. You should see the number of dead fish at the end of the Castaic night tournaments. Everytime I bring my bag down to the dock there is a pile of fish next to the tank and those were all caught by the same guys preaching catch and release!

Ta Da :-)
I don't know what we'd do out here without all the vitaman T swimming in our waters Great fish!

Football Jig trailers?
Halijedi as in FNN Halijedi? I'm used to seeing you with pictures of halibut not bass. But then again I gave up on that site over a year ago. Too much drama for me. Well welcome aboard.

Buzzbait?
That doesn't suprise me. Persuader makes about umpteen blade combinations on their buzzbaits. The one I have has one large two bladed prop with a small willow on the vertical shaft for a clacker. I had a Pro-Line Buzzbait that had two blades that would bind up. I fixed it by holding the bait out of the window while driving eighty on the freeway. Blades broke in and worked great after that. But yours may be binding because it wore out. I had that problem with the squeaky dolphin from Reaction Inovations. Worste Buzzbait ever IMO!

Favorite Freshwater Fishing TV Show?
I loved Hank Parker's show when I was a kid but now it is over produced and there is way to many flash backs, behind the scene shots, and Hank talking about the trip and not enough fishing. I used to like watching Bass Masters but now there too much comentary from inside a studio and they add way too much drama. Roland Martin is the only one I can think of that hasn't gotten worse, it's just as bad as it always was. Just one half hour long commercial. Oh and Bill Dance, nothing like watching a guy fish in private waters to showcase his sponser's newest baits. If I had to watch one show it would be with the Ultimate Match fishing or Linder's Angling Edge but UMF has it's share of faults. Sorry if I sound too negative but I used to get up at 3:30 am on Saturday morning when I was in elementy school to catch the fishing shows because they were brodcast on east coast time and I am in California. I grew up loving these shows and to see what they have turned into just really bothers me. But maybe they were always like this and I was just too young to notice back then.

Line for Jig & Pig / Frog Rod?
If you you have a whiffle spool you can thread it through the holes and tie it to that, if not than I leave about two layers of mono and tie the braid to that. Oh and I use two different sticks for Jigging and froging. Jig stick has 15lb Cuda and the frog stick has 50lb Power Pro. If I had to use one it would be the braid because the braid will work fine with the jig but the mono and the frog aren't the best of combinations.
