A STORY TO WARM YOUR HEARTS
Coward, you didn't censor that when you sent it to me. I blushed quite red when I saw that dirty, filthy word. Shame on you!

I must offer a beerpology...
Just like clothes, beers are trendy. On the other hand, some clothes never go out of style, (e.g. jeans) and neither do some beers (e.g. Budweiser.)

help on ganoe
Huh? What's a ganoe? With all your run-on sentences and lack of punctuation, I can't figure out what you are trying to say. Can you please rephrase the question using proper English?

BTW, Russ, why are you complaining about not having steak? From what I've heard, the only things you eat are bean sprouts and tofu. ;D ;D ;D

Stolen stuff off boat
preach4bass, Car alarms have circuitry that will set off the alarm if a door is opened. I used magnetic switches on all my hatches and accomplished the same thing. Also, car alarms have a shock sensor to detect glass breakage. No mods necessory for me other than adjusting the sensitivity. If you bump the boat, it sets off the alarm. As for the tilt sensor, that was my own design, with some help from Ghotti. This requires a more than a casual knowledge of electronics. PM me if you want more info.

VOB to WMA conversion
I think trying to convert from Very Old Biker (VOB) format to any other is impossible because the VOB is obsolete.

Trolling motor amp draw?
Set the motor at the full power setting. Disconnect the motor leads at the battery. Measure the resistance between the leads. Divide that number into your battery voltage (12V.) That's how many Amps it will draw. This includes the leads leading from the battery to the motor, which have to be taken into account.

OK, I'm officially jealous.

Stolen stuff off boat
I bought a car alarm off E-Bay for $20 and adapted it to my boat for an additional $20. If anyone opens any hatch, or jars the boat, there goes the alarm. Also, I installed a tilt sensor. Anyone trying to steal the boat will have to crank it down to their hitch. There goes the alarm.

Oil Prices Plunge!
The most encouraging thing about this whole scenario is that many of the developing countries can no longer afford to subsidize the price of gasoline being delivered to the masses. As a result, the masses have done exactly the same thing as we in the West have done. i.e. Reduce demand. I think the speculators have begun to see the handwriting on the wall and are beginning to slowly bail out. One of the greatest positive signs that I am seeing of late is the massive advertising campaign championed by Boone Pickens. He's doing great stuff that will give our politicians no other choice but to get up off their butts and develop a cohesive energy policy.

Employment Question
My recommendation is to bend over and take it and then start looking for another job. It's obvious the company does not want to lay you off because you are either a very valued employee, or they don't want to pay any severance pay. It would depend on how long you have been with the company. Also, if you get laid off, you are eligible for unemployment insurance. In reality, your employer has to pay that bill also because of an increase in Unemployment Insurance rates. You are still drawing a salary, although it is greatly reduced. Use this time to find another job. The job pays a lot more than your unemployment checks would.

CHECK IN THREAD FOR OUR LOUSIANA AND GULF COAST MEMBERS
My family drove back to Rayne from Pensecola today. Everything was OK with their home when they got back. The electricity came back on about an hour ago. My wife is flying in tonight. All's well.

trolling motor wire gauge
To begin with, I find it very hard to believe that the leads coming from your trolling motor are only 14 gauge, but if you say so... The reason that the TM manufacturers recommend 6 gauge is because of the potential distance between your motor and the battery. If the motor is in the front of the boat and the battery is in the back, then a longer, thinner wire creates more electrical resistance and can over heat, causing a short, or even worse, a fire. If your battery is located right next to your motor, the feel free to attach your 14? gauge wire to the battery.

Motor Guide Burning Up
If the wires leading from the battery are still in good shape, then the problem is with your TM. I hope it is still under warranty.

Trolling motor, wiring advice needed!
Del, I am alternately scratching my head and my butt. If you have an ohm meter, measure the resistance in your lighting circuit and get back to us. Attach the meter to the positive and negative leads of your light circuit while not connected to the battery.

should I put on Braid or no??
I've said it before and I'll say it again. I use thirty or fifty pound braid on all of my reels, both bait casting and spinning. I also use a fluoro leader on all of my braids. In my opinion, I have the best of both worlds. i.e. Very little line twist and superior breaking strength with the braid. Line invisibility and a sacrificial break-off area with the fluoro.
