I sent my message also. Oklahoma's Govenor, Brad Henry, sent me a letter saying it's not his problem. i.e. It's up to the US Congress. On the other hand, one of my congressmen sent me the following e-mail: Thank you for contacting me regarding your support for H.R. 5949, the Clean Boating Act of 2008. I appreciate your taking the time to share your thoughts on this matter with me. H.R. 5949 seeks to exempt recreational vessels from Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations on discharge from commercial vessels in U.S. waters. This legislation would include any deck runoff from a recreational vessel, any engine cooling water, and other discharge incidental to the normal operation of a recreational boat. This exemption would not apply to rubbish, trash, garbage, or other such materials discharged overboard by a recreational vessel. I understand and share your concern about burdensome regulations on recreational vessels. Currently, H.R. 5949 has been referred to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee for further legislative consideration. I live in Tulsa. About fifteen years ago I had a heat pump installed in my 1960's era home. It is backed up by a gas furnace when the heat pump can't keep up on the really cold days. At the same time as installing the heat pump, I had R-32 insulation blown into my attic. My house has 2700 sq ft under the roof. These days my electricity bill averages about $150 a month and my gas bill averages about $50. To my great good fortune, both my electric and gas companies offer monthly billing based upon three month rolling averages. In short, I'm a very happy camper as far as my utility bills are concerned.

I have the 522 and absolutely love it. My only negative comment is to not rely on the Auto Sensitivity setting for the Sonar. Set it for your particular conditions. On the plus side, Lowrance has regular software upgrades for both their sonar units and their Lakes packages.

Outstanding craftsmanship! God only knows how many, hours, weeks and months it took to create such a beauty.

I fish braid with a 6ft. flouro leader on all my rods. I replace the leaders every couple of months, but will hardly ever replace the braid.

We had deep fried possum with cracklins. Took me several days to gather up enough road kill to feed the family.

You may want to consider returning your bow mount trolling motor and replacing it with a stern mount with a 36" shaft. Jon boats are not designed to easily accommodate a bow mount motor. Lots of modifications are required.

Ybor, I apologize if you considered my post an insult. The nature of your post gave me the strong impression that you were in trouble and only making things worse. About a year ago I was in the same predicament. I was trying to completely re-wire an '89 Tracker that had been vandalized; plus I wanted to add a water pressure and a fuel gauges. I did OK for a while but I soon discovered that the wiring colors changed with each harness plug-in. I then realized that I was in over my head without a schematic. To my great good fortune, I was able to obtain one. Like you, I now have everything working perfectly. Again, my apologies. Hopefully, now you will understand the my post to you was out of concern, not to insult you.

Rebar, an on-board charger is a very convenient item to have. When you return from fishing, all you have to do is plug in a power cord to the charger and then forget about it. The charger senses the charge level of the batteries and automatically turns on and off. You can leave the charger plugged in indefinitely without harming your batteries. Now, get on the internet (Google?) and learn all about it for yourself.

Take a close look at the Lowrance 522. Lots of bang for the buck, plus int has many, many lake maps preloaded. In addition, you can go to Lowrance's site and download many more at no cost.

Sorry Russ, I forgot to mention that gas pump thing. $200 round trip to Fork.

Thanks for the "welcome backs" everyone. To be perfectly honest, I didn't think I was missed. Jack, I have no need to read the road signs. I simply point the truck toward Lake Fork, set the cruise control, and lean back. About four and a half hours later, the truck will drive itself to Lake Fork Marina. 8-)

I did the same as Olebiker. Bought a re-built one from DualPro. Love it! Stay away from the BPS units. According to the reviews on the BPS web site, their units crap out after about a year or so.

My friend, you have created a monster. Why on earth would you choose to eliminate the engine overheat buzzer? Shear lunacy. I'm speculating, but I would think that, your tach will have its power coming from the switch, but the sensor wire will come directly from the motor. I strongly suggest that you contact the boat manufacturer and have them send you a schematic. With respect, I think you might be in over your head.

It's a good product. If nothing else, it makes the removal of backlashes much easier - not that I've ever had one.
