Glenn, you get the warmth and moisture from the Japan Current, so it rains a lot. I number of years ago I had the opportunity of living in Stavanger, Norway. In that part of the world we got the warmth and moisture from the Gulf Stream, so it rained a LOT. We were lucky if we got ten days of warm sun a year. The great thing about those ten days was that the Norwegian ladies had no qualms about going out into their yards and sun-bathing - NUDE.

After being caught and released, most bass head for the nearest bar to have a couple of stiff drinks. ;D

Realizing that I'm not a young man anymore, I mounted a fold-down ladder on the stern of my boat. I must confess that I do not wear my PFD when the big motor isn't running. If a big wave hits me and I get tossed out of the boat, I'll simply swim around to the stern and climb back on. If a big wave hits me and I fall out of the boat and hit my head ... well, you are all invited to my funeral.

I like to hunt field mice. My weapon of choice is the RPG, but sometimes I use grenades. ;D

I'll keep the one I have until they plant me.

Call Goodwill Industries. They will take almost any donation, refurbish it, and then sell it at a greatly reduced price. Their primary goal is to employ the disadvantaged.

As Fishing Rhino said, I absolutely love it. No more cables and pedals to clutter the front deck. My 80 lb thrust motor enables my boat to "anchor" in place and the built-in GPS will keep me within a five foot radius, regardless of reasonable wind and current. I can set a course and the GPS will keep me on that course. I can record a course and the iPilot will allow me to track back and forth along that course. I can record a waypoint and the iPilot will return me to that point, provided I'm within 1/4 mile of it. The iPilot has so many features that I fully believe that the technology will revolutionize the trolling motor industry, just has side imaging has done for depth finders.

I can't speak for electric-only lakes, but on all others the red/green bow light, as well as the white stern light are required.

Wayne, with all due respect to you and Glen, I disagree with you. As I've said before, for you guys who have been using cable steer for umpteen years, the foot pedal is an extension of your body and steering is almost automatic, so any improvement in technology would be completely alien to you. For those of us who are relatively new to the sport, innovations such as the Minn Kota i-Pilot are a revelation. Steering is as instantaneous as the push of a button. Way-points are entered at the push of a button. At the push of a button you can "anchor" the boat to within a five foot radius, regardless of wind or current. At the push of a button you can have the boat maintain a course in wind or current. At the push of a button you can have the boat log a trail and then re-track it. The following is an example of why I love this technology. A couple of weeks ago my buddy and I were fishing the rip-rap alongside of a road and bridge that crossed the lake. We were on the upwind side with the wind at 10-15 mph blowing into us.. Not surprisingly, I got hung up and lost my lure. Since I had the boat on autopilot I was able to re-tie without ever having to look up to see if we were being washed into the rocks. Try that with cable steer.

I installed an alarm system with motion and tilt sensors on my boat. As said above, it may not stop the theft, but it may deter the dirt-bag from driving down the street with the alarm screaming.

Born in '46. We didn't have AC until I was in high school. I grew up in South Louisiana. My Dad installed several window fans in the house that blew outward. In this manner there was always a "cool" breeze being drawn in through the other half-open windows. The old Bernoulli Principle at work again. I never missed having an AC until I had it.

Yes, if she had the same sailing background as that kid did. If memory serves, she's been sailing since she was five. So, she's an accomplished sailor. She is also on the water and far away from drugs or nasty little boys who want to poke a little fun into her. At this point in my life I would have gladly sent my daughters out to sail around the world. They would have been safer. ;D

I recently replaced the carpet on my boat, which has 3/4" plywood decking. I first coated the decking with fiberglass resin. I then glued the carpet to the decking, rolled it under the edges and stapled it down; exactly as it came from the factory. I then reattached the decks to the boat with self-tapping screws. Some of the screw holes are still visible, but the nap of the carpet will eventually hide them. As for mold and mildew, it wasn't an issue with the previous carpeting, so I doubt that it will be an issue with the new.

Glen, could you please explain what personal experience(s) you have with the remote controlled models that lead you to say that they suck?
