  1. my sensitivity is at 12 and contrast at 10 I believe. I am by no means an expert this is just what looked best to me while playing with it. I can see cover pretty well but still couldn't spot a fish unless they are in an obvious school. I use sonar if im looking for fish.
  2. Thanks for the detailed responses guys. As I said this has never been my style of fishing but just wanted to see how popular it was and how effective it is for these guys that like it. Always looking to try new things. I've never relied much on reaction baits all that much and after reading a few articles stating that's all they used until they got bit it made me feel like I was missing out on something. Although I do believe as A-jay said these guys are probably missing more than they are finding. I still sometimes feel I am spending more time than I should in a particular spot when maybe I should be moving on.
  3. Kind of 2 part question. I see bass boats running up and down the lake and river doing what I call power fishing and I also hear others talk about only using reaction baits until they locate active fish. This has never been my style of fishing but I'm just wondering how effective it is? Are there always active bass somewhere on a body of water? If you fish this way care to give any tips or just explain your technique? The second question is what is your favorite bait to use while your "searching"?
  4. Most everything has been said but I think the guys on that higher level of bass fishing might as well be considered freshwater marine biologist. They understand how a lakes ecosystem works at anytime of the year and not only know where the bass are but why they are there.
  5. Got my head burnt pretty good yesterday through the mesh in my hat and I thought about getting a buff. Just curious how many of yall use em and how you like it?
  6. Largemouth but the way your holding it makes it hard to say for sure. Spots jaw line with mouth closed will not be past the eye. There is also a gap in between the 2 upper fins. For future reference
  7. I use them in alot in place of deep diving cranks. I'm not an avid deep cranker and can't always tell if I'm in the strike zone but with traps I can count them down and then start my retrieve. I catch a lot more stripes on them than largemouth though but I think that's a location factor more than something to do with the bait
  8. Don't you know all post on BR come in 3's Jig with craw trailer is mine
  9. Welcome! I'm just a little ways south from you on the hooch.
  10. Where are you getting them? Bass pro stopped selling them didn't they
  11. Fiberglass or aluminum? Each side like inside and out or both corners? Either way there is no quick transom fix. To do it right is a major repair. Up to you if the boats worth the work or money
  12. If you watch the pro's you"ll even hear them say "don't jump" as it is always a possibility to lose them on the jump. Keep pressure and rod tip down that's all you can do
  13. Are you saying live bait is allowed during tourney? If so I would think that is the ticket to getting biggest fish. Anyway what about a frog early? Big bass are known to eat them. I would also use a lot of plastics( brushhogs and finesse worms) maybe throw a rattletrap to search and if there in the weeds I like a bladed jig with a paddle tail trailer too
  14. Don't want to hijack but I keep seeing these things and have never tried them. What makes them fall backwards and what do they imitate?
  15. Netbait T-mac finesse worm
  16. Never tried them but this is my opinion except always as trailer on a jig.
  17. only thing I can think of is the navionics app for smartphones. it will show the ledge but you still need to know your lat/lon to know your in the right spot. even the cheapest depthfinder would help you find the drop off. shoot ive got one id sell you for pretty cheap.
  18. Depends on where I plan to fish. I can normally find a creek that's half protected by wind but normally anything around 20 I can't even cross the lake so it depends if I can launch close enough. All depends on direction and how bad I wanna go. I have left after about an hour because it was too rough and that makes for a bad day
  19. I understand your frustration. It wasn't till a few years ago I even knew what a thermocline was. I just fish as deep as I mark fish. Before I had any kind of decent electronics I fished a spot shallow, middle, and deep till I got bit. I then kept that depth until it stopped producing.I will add that the thermocline will be different throughout the lake. If there is a river channel with current the fish can go deeper.
  20. ive skipped over this thread the past week but It keeps popping up on top so ill give my opinion. (I also have not read all the post) I personally do not condone taking the larger than average size bass to be harvested, BUT I do wish more anglers in my area would harvest more bass than they do. we are overrun with 12 to 14 in largemouth and also a huge population of spots the same size. I believe this would make a huge contribution to the fishery and allow the big bass to get bigger. I eat bass when I feel like it. I don't stock the freezer but I say I have a bass meal once a month or so. They are all normally 12 to 15 inch fish, they also taste better in my opinion
  21. It will use a pressure sensor so instead of running a water line directly to the gauge you run wires from gauge to sensor. Sensor can be mounted under engine cowl. Possibly directly to water outlet on head. Never installed one myself but its no different than a digital oil or fuel pressure gauge
  22. Also use mono. Saves money I think especially since I tend to respool more than I should so I'm not wasting braid
  23. Lol that first link to iboats is my post. Thanks for lookin for me though
  24. Got numbers off of prop the brand is protester. I found "3021C" and "25800". I don't think motor is original so it may not be a 97 model. I haven't looked it up yet but the serial # is 0G470848.
