Questions about catfish
Speaking of saltwater cats....When I was on a trip to florida we went on a guided redfish trip and caught some cats as well. Our guide told us that some teenagers would try to catch the catfish just to lick their backs because it makes you halucinate!!!!!

Fishing: a high school sport??
That is really cool. I wish that could happen up here in the DC area, but there is no way that there would be enough interest.

Scents on Crankbaits
I think I read the article here on BR about an older man that dipped his crankbait into gasoline to prove it didn't matter, but I may be wrong....

BPS Crankin' Stick
The only thing that is a little off with mine is that on an overhead cast the bait goes about 5 feet to the left on every cast, my Dad noticed it when he was casting it. I usually side arm em' anyways. It really is a great rod though.

No, I don't think I'll be going to buggs. We stay at sherrwood forest at lake gaston so thats why we go there so much. I would like to try going one day though, I have never fished it. I will have to try one day. MAtt

Lake Gaston December 29 and 30
It's been a while since I've made a report, haven't really had the chance to get many pictures either. Well we got to the lake saturday morning at around 10, and got out on the water by 12. It was warm when we got there, around 70 degrees, then once we hit the water about an hour into it the temp dropped about 10. We fished main lake points and steep bluffs with very little success, we only managed 4 in about 4 hours of fishing. I caught one on a spot remover right off a dock, and my second on an evolution jig with woolybug trailer in about 2 feet of water on a boat launch. My brother caught his both on eakins jigs, one about 10 feet off of a shallow dock, and another up under a 14 foot dock. Sunday I didn't even think I was going to fish...The air temp was about 40 degrees, and it was POURING rain. I was really tempted just to pack up and hang around but I decided just to go out cause I really wanted to fish. We fished for about 20 minutes throwing tight to docks with jigs with nothing, so I threw out in front of the boat about 10 feet off the docks and got a real solid bite, so that had me wondering...I was still fishin the docks but throwing way ahead of the boat and far off of the docks and picked up a nice 2 lber. Moved up a little more and caught 2 more fish, and missed about 3 all on the evolution jig. My brother couldn't catch any in the rain, and he was freezing so we went in after about an hour and a half. I was real proud of catching those fish in the freezing rain of a cold front. Sorry for the extra long report, but it's been a while Ps this fish only had 1 eye. It was the jig fish from saturday

lipless crankbaits
I use both Bill Lewis, and Cotten Cordell traps. I would rate the Cotton Cordell just as high as Bill Lewis' traps, and I use them more. I have never had one that didn't run straight, and they fall nose first. I would say they're practically identical, but that's just me. Matt Strykul

Fishing tournaments....why? or why not?
I just sat here and thought about it and came to the conclusion that I just love competition. I have competed in everything that I have ever done, from rollerblading competitions, wakeboarding competitions, to fishing tournaments. I love trying to out do others, especially when I'm the youngest tryin to beat the older guys. Fishing tournaments are fun to me because I never know what I'm going to bring in, if ANYTHING! I love being out on the boat with my younger brother for 7 hours and be fully concentrated and testing myself. It's just a blast. Last year we started fishing these team tournaments in a reservoir that is <10 hp every other weekend and usually about 40 boats with a $40 entry fee per boat. My brother and I are the 2 youngest fisherman that fish the tournaments and the guys that do fish it "have been fishing it for their whole lives"...Do we let that get us down, and not compete? No way...We would pay the $40 (alot for us kids without a job) just to fish even though we knew we didnt have the best chance of getting in the money, and we are going to do it next year, and the year after that, and probably the year after that! It's all a learning experience, and I am one to spend my money on things that allow me to learn/ make me happy

Spanking our children
I was spanked when I was a kid, but I really had to mess up. I definetly think it disciplines kids, concidering that my parents never spanked my littlest sibling and truthfully, she has the smartest mouth of anyone and is always mouthing off. Theres .02 cents from a youngin. ;D

Thank you FishForDollars (Jr members lure donation
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, 2 days ago I got my package of lures from Fishfordollars (Jack) and all I can say is WOW. I can't thank him enough for what he sent me, more stuff than I could have imagined. 23 crankbaits, 3 topwaters, too many plastics to count, and a little portable radio, haha. I can't tell you how much I appreciate this. He was definetly in the giving mood. Thank you Ghoti for setting this up! Jack truthfully is a class act, he called me to make sure it was okay that he sent the lures, and then went and offered me help with any fishing tournaments that I have, and then the back seat to his boat if he comes up this way. Thank you Jack P.S. In the picture Jack is in the front, and DOES NOT have a gray moustache! ;D Heres some pictures....
