1.5 hours, one bite.
I went out this morning to a local lake that I've given up on many times before. I just wanted to get some time in with a couple of lures that I don't throw much due to lack of patience/success in the past. So I started the morning fishing begrudgingly from the get-go. Trying to make the best of it I threw the whopper plopper and senko on and off for a half hour. Nothing. Next half hour was going to be dedicated to my new midnight special spinnerbait. Nothing. So now I have to get my new zman chatterbait some water time. I've tried a strike king chatterbait before with zero results but I've wanted it to work so bad. So after about 20 casts in all different directions I let it sink and I thought I snagged bottom about 15 feet out maybe 6 feet deep. But the line was tight and started to run to the left so I set the hook and after a couple minutes of fearing my line would snap, I landed my new personal best at 5 pounds even. She had what looked like a bass tail sticking out of her throat partially decomposed. A good fight for certain but I am kinda bummed that I didn't really want to be out there too much before that fish. I almost feel like it wasn't deserved. I left about 20 minutes later feeling pretty excited though.

What's your #1 hardbait for smallies?
Xcalibur Xcs100 silent in one of the craw colors. I don't remember which one. Got my PB smallie with it last spring.

First time out with the whopper plopper 90
When I looked at them on TW the other day they only had the 90 in the silent now? Am I crazy or has the 90 always been silent? I got mine at bps and it rattles pretty good.

What Should Be My Next Top Water Lure?
I would at least get one Super Spook. A blast to use and they're usually $7-8.I don't know much about the JDM stuff mentioned in the original post other than what I've read here. Couldn't hurt for you to try it.

Who was the most help teaching you how to fish for bass?
My dad and Grandpa taught me how to fish for trout. Mostly just nightcrawler and bobber snoozefest style. I spent most of my early years just throwing whatever out there I imagined might work. Up until a few years ago my knot tying was atrocious, just knot on top of knot on top of knot... Couldn't figure out why I thought that was smart until I brought my dad fishing this summer. Same thing with the knots. So, in more recent years I have learned a lot from my boss (topwater), co-workers(senkos), Nick the informative guy, and most recently Glenn. I still have to rewatch videos sometimes as I struggle to retain info if I don't use it right away. So thanks to all of the above mentioned people. Honorable mention to alot of the frequent posters here. Thank you.

Worst Fishing Etiquette You've Encountered?
Off topic, but are most co-anglers usually random draw types or is that a less frequent format? I couldn't imagine fishing with a stranger on any boat let alone an expensive one.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Those things look awesome. I'll throw some, someday. I grabbed a little bit of everything at wally world. They finally stocked the fishing dept. after redoing it recently. Most of this stuff is for my son's birthday so I won't be fishing alot of it. The gum is for when I kiss the bass. They hate bad breath.

First time out with the whopper plopper 90
I do nearly the same thing with the 90. Let the rings dissipate, two or three pops, then a slow steady retrieve. I've had a couple take it while it was just sitting after it landed and I was distracted. Otherwise it's 50-50 between the first two pops or on the retrieve shortly after the pops. Then again I've had a few take it as I was pulling it out to recast pretty shallow and close to shore. I am in Pittsfield, MA. If I had a kayak I would fish the Housatonic river despite all of the PCB's. Huge smallies and pike in there. Sadly I don't yet have one. For me it wouldn't be worth going after the stocked trout there in Pittsfield anyway with all of the pollution.

Worst Fishing Etiquette You've Encountered?
We are not all like that. Sad to hear and sad to see a near empty stadium this week for a team that has been amazing the last few years. Not their best year but it seems even when they are winning people don't show up. Yankees fans are the worst up here. I've had old men from the Bronx get in my face and threaten me in front of my kids over cheeky anti-yankee shirts that are meant to be in good fun. Leaf peeping snow birds.

Trunk Kit
As a bank fisherman, my trunk is my trunk kit. I have a milk crate with most of my soft plastics, 6 3600 boxes, a medical tray with lid that I make at work for spinnerbaits, and my 3-4 rods. These things only come out if it's really hot out or if I'm going grocery shopping and for the winter.

First time out with the whopper plopper 90
They usually are hooked on the front hook with the back one buried in their side or stomach. Most of the time anyway. This time the larger one bit first and the other one did everything it could to get at the little black bird with the yellow face.

BPS Stick-O's?.......Nope
I would love to read that article if you can link it or pm it to me. I'm a nerd for that kind of stuff. Dang, at my local Wallyworld they just went down to $6.36 - 6.96 a bag. For some reason they have the smaller size at the higher cost. At DSG however, they are $8.00~ a bag.
