I am glad you laughed it off redline. Around my friends this type of humor is a way to ease the stress. If you give my band of clowns an inch, they will run with it. Its fun and all meant in the best of ways. Yes, I can take it, those clowns I fish with have been beating me up for years and I wouldn't have it any other way. Laughing is good for the soul. Glad to see you are the type of guy to laugh right along and by the way, I would bet those size Peacocks break a few rods, lol.
  2. Thanks for the link. That is a very sad situation. Is it mandatory for all high school players to wear neck protection collars on a national level or is on a state by state basis? I will pray for him.
  3. 6'4" MH Team All Star rod. #14-#17 test---most of the time #15 Big Game. Abu Garcia C3 5501 This is a winning combo for spinnerbaits. The Abu Garcia and this TAS rod certainly shines for spinnerbait throwing. This is my setup for largemouth in Lakes. I use a slightly different setup for smallies in the rivers. River Smallmouth--- 6' MH Team All Star Rod fast action. #12 test---Excel Shimano Curado The reason I chose Excel line for my river fishing is that I am throwing pretty short most of the time on the Susquehanna in PA and Upper Potomac in MD. The #12 provides a little less resistance against the strong currents. Excel line is a little stretchy and it lends me that xtra shock strength on the hookup and for hard charging big smallies. A #5 and up smallie in warm water can be like hooking on to a Volkswagon going down the road sometimes, LOL. This has worked for me for a lot of years.
  4. I love fishing jigs. In my experiance, bass hit them on the fall, a lot, so that is why I use more heavy jigs than light. I go for the reaction strike. There is a time and place for light jigs but, day in and day out I use mostly a 1/2oz jig and when I am fishing the holes in the heavy hydrilla mats I use 3/4 to 1oz. When hopping or dragging jigs I use 1/4 to 3/8. This formula has worked for me a long time.

  7. Welcome Mr. Hannon. I am looking forward to your post as I have respected your knowledge concerning the art of fishing for many years.
  8. Man, nothing like grand kids, and when they try you, you can send them back !!! I say that but, when my granddaughter gives me " the look " I crumble, lol.
  9. Please do not ask me why, because, it beats me, but, as far as rivers, at least the Susquehanna in PA, the smallmouth prefer chartruese bladed spinnerbaits. I keep telling myself that it is a figment of my imagination but, time after time, its the ticket.
  10. Good point Garnet, about the Colorado blades on a willow leaf frame, it doesn't work very well.
  11. 2/0 wide gap---wacky---owner hooks T-Rig---3 or 4/0 wide gap. Green Pumkin Weightless on #8 for spinning---#12 on a Curado baitcaster.

  14. Life is tough at seventeen, life can be tough at 30, life can be tough at 40, life can be tough at 50, etc....... thats just the way it is. Ups, downs, its a rollercoaster. Thats the way God intended it to be. Welcome to the real world, the biggest classroom there is. You deal with these problems, remember them, file them, move on and consider yourself a little wiser next time. I think your problems go deeper than the girl situation. You need to take a deep breath seek advise from a priest, youth counsler or anyone who can help you sort this thing out. Just put one foot in front of the other and do it. We all need a helping hand sometimes. Its nothing to be ashamed of. I may not be the smartest man in the world but, I can assure you one thing, drugs are not the answer. Look up my friend, thats the answer.
  15. I saw a bunch of those at a party in the early 70's once.
  16. Baitcasters---Big Game or Dura Tuf, all in #10-#20 Spinning---Silver Thread or Super Silver Thread, Excel, all in #8
  17. The old rope trick. I have a eye on my cable winch stand just for this purpose. Jet drive outboards reverse is not very powerful and the rope trick works fine. I do it all the time.
  18. I give a wide a berth as I can with, NO WAKE. Even if I see someone fishing the bank I attempt to give them room and not to wake their lines as well.
  19. If you are coming to Maryland and fishing the Lower Potomoc, Washington DC area please read this article on Snakeheads. This is a unwelcome problem that we have been handed in Maryland. www.dnr.state.md.us/dnrnews/infocus/snakehead.asp
  20. I just noticed the Newbies questions on rod building link. Thanks ReelMech. I am getting senile, as well as still thawing out from the Susquehanna trip the other day. Brrrrrr !!! It sure was worth it though, they were hungry, to say the least !!!
