  1. That how anglers at DVL keep their trout, from what I've heard.
  2. Yup happen to me once, not Ned rig but TRD on dropshot.
  3. These are only parts I'm interested and would like to know more. How close to spawning site would female move to? Are they only stay put or hunt for food? Cover or deeper water? I have seen a lot of spawning staging this year. I did not say I'm an expert just more of observation this year. I saw a lot like @WRBdescribed. I saw all, lone male bass making bed, male guarding bass alone. Yesterday I went out with 2 rods, one hudd and the other glide bait. At my usual spot I saw male and female bass guarding bed less than 5 feet from me. I didn't see these two last Sunday, they must be in early stage of laying eggs. I did not try to catch them but I did swim two of my lures pass their bed to see how they reacted, the male would be the one that come to get a closer look on the lure first almost every time. It was so cool, I standed their for almost an hour and the male was the only one stayed right in front of me with his red eyes. I did get a follower on glide bait from out of sight bed, don't know male or female but he/she stay for almost 5 mins with the two right in front of me. He/she even nipped at my lure once. All of three bass I saw are in 2-3 lb with the red eyes male being the smallest.
  4. This is for your guide line if you are going to go Daiwa route 100 series 16 lb / 100yds 103 series 14 lb / 100yds 105 series 12 lb / 90yds curado 70 10lb /105 yds I don't use big line on my curado mostly in 12lb size(#8 copolymer line) and 30lb braid and I got plenty of line for bomb casting.
  5. What size line are you using? 20lb fluorocarbon? Changing to braided line might be easier and cheaper?
  6. Walmart here in SoCal suck, never have any of those on sale.
  7. I would say get it return/fix, it might not cause any performance but you will feel annoying every time you use the reel.
  8. It looks good, I don't mind music. I'm too add music to video since I'm not a talker and I'm afraid no one would understand me anyway.
  9. It is not about high end or mid range, it what you can afford. If money is no object I would buy all those high price tag/collectible and fish them like crazy. Back to real world, I do set my budget for reel or rod 15 years ago I won't look at reel over 100, now I add my budget to 200 but doesn't mean I won't shop any reel that cheaper or more expensive. Sometime you gotta pay for what you want, for me size/weight of reel that comfortable then color scheme.
  10. Fenwick elite tech, I don't have one but I've heard a lot of good review and if anything like Fenwick Ateos line, it should handle the lures you listed just fine. One thing to consider, both new Ateos and Elite tech use same titanium insert which I have problem with tip top guide being scratch by braid line. I talked to local tackle shop who fixed the rod for me and we summed up as titanium guide is strong but cannot withstand heat very well. BTW I use curado Ipg for my medium size swimbait up to 2 oz as well.
  11. Form what I read all the recommendations here, it sums up like this. 1. just get out and fish 2. Buy a pack of Senko 3. Be patient 4. If you think you slow, let slow down more. My story is, I got one of those Senko kit in a box and a nice spinning setup (crucial dropshot rod pair with symetre2500) mostly not for me but for my friend and family who wanna fish some bass with me. I remembered most of everyone I had to tell them to be very patient and slow down and then slow down even more.
  12. That is why I sent you my reels to deep clean after awhile LOL.
  13. I don't know I like it simple, before I used hot source for all my gears aluminum or not. Now I use shimano drag grease for everything. For oil I use whatever that come with reel.
  14. You are braver than me running swimbait on SV103. I was gonna use my steez ex100 for 1-2oz bait but afraid of aluminum gear not gonna last. I got curado 200ipg instead. I'm using also Luna 253 for larger one with 17lb mono and found I still have plenty of line left.
  15. Man almost DD on trout setup, what a surprise. Congrat to her. The thing is how long it took her to land that bass. I'm worried about the health of that bass and if she gonna be able to spread her gene. BTW, She might got a small trout hooked without knowing it. Same story I hear over and over at DVL where I guy try to catch trout and suddenly got a big bass on the line.?
  16. Thanks but because I can't find reg Calcutta 300, or 300GTE anywhere and the price was too much for some of the used one.
  17. You can find lexa 300 pretty cheap now. my local got both on sale for 109 I think. I was looking at it for maybe spares for my luna 253 but decided against it(actually not me decided but my wife)
  18. BTW congrat on your 100 gift card for valentines. I only got some strawberries dipped chocolate on valentines and only $25 gift card on new year.? Believe me it d**n hard to shop BPS when you only have 25 bucks on hand.
  19. Like I said, I might outcast other(reg bass gear) with my pure stock 6500c3 with proper weight and rod, but that not the point isn't it? The OP gonna be the one using it, he's never own round reel, let alone disengaged vs non-disengaged reel.
  20. Tournament and everyday use? Apple and orange may I say?
  21. If it impedes or not it depends on who using it but if compare reel to reel of course disengaged reel should cast better, another logic? Instead of spool spin freely by itself to let the line out now spool have another piece of plastic gear attached to it to spin another piece of plastic gear that attached to worm gear. And what do we use on gear of course grease which will also slow down spool spinning. Now on the other hand if I compare with someone else using reg bass gear and me use my Abu 6500c3 with proper weight and rod, I might get more distance than them. I don't know about you but I did take off the whole worm gear assembly on my old 6500c3 to gain more distance.
  22. Nothing much, 5600 and 6500c series come with non-disengaged level wind which will effect cast distance plus he might not use to with non-disengaged level wind where you don't want to reel the line all the way in, also more maintenance since it is non-disengaged you need oil on worm gear more frequently. It is also heavier and especially 6500c3 come with push release button (I saw you link to c4 after I posted which I don't have one). I recommended Cardiff 300 since that reel should have line capacity enough to handle medium to big swimbait. BTW I still have both 6500c3 (been using this series for over 20 years) and 5600C (with thumb bar release and line clicker), also have Cardiff 200 to compare and I like Cardiff better.
  23. Cardiff all the way, you won't be happy with 6500c. You might try 300 size.
  24. My first cast, I alway hope for big fish after 100 casts I hope for any kind of fish then 1000 cast I know it SKUNKED again.
  25. .

You guys are tough, if you say his 3 fingers is about 2" then that bass could be around 20" that transfer to close to 4lbs. It is also his first big bass so I gave him another lb benefits so 4-5 lbs sound just right. I have seenanglers post with fish where his hand bigger than his face and claim such and such weight all the time.
