Me too, start learning skipping. I mostly pratice with fluke style bait not jig. I bought new reel (daiwa tatula ct type R) just for this purpose I pair the reel with old 6'6" medium rod. Today the skipping was pretty good, I can make fluke to slide on top of water a few time without backlash. I hope by spring time Ill be ready for real dock skipping.

I still have 3 very old castaway at least 15-20 years old. It still work good. Those old rods dont have action specific so all of them should be moderate rated compare to today rod. I plan to use those rods again soon, one heavy for crankbait and one medium for dock skipping.

I might make a mistake here, was thinking of getting my bro in law president for catfish fishing but instead got him shimano nexave 4000 FD on sale for 30 bucks. Will see how long this reel last.

I use the hook you link a few times with different sizes. I dont like it that much even thou it help reduce snag percentagr quite abit. I feel the weed guard which made from plastic is too soft and sometime it would come out of place. It is also pain to unhook fish since the same weed guard would twisted aroung hook and get in the way. I notmally use gammy ewg #2 size hook and hook worm just like you would with any worm hook.

Never lost a fish from this knot and never got break off from the knot either. The hook stay streight 90 degree from line.

Best day of 2016 for me is very simple. It was the day I hook up with my neighbor to go fishing for the first time. Before this I always fish alone and not very successful one. After that day he becomes my fishing buddy. We fish together all the time. We help each other in everyway not just fishing. I become serious again about fishing so decided to get a boat. He help me alot about boating taught me all about it. Even thou He is not very good teacher thou since he forget to plug the boat many time lol. And now here I am in canyon lake a small heaven of bass fishing. All of this happened mainly becuz I met him.

With trilene knot, I think the hook would lean to either side. Polamar knot is pretty easy to tie you just pratice at home a few time and you should be able to tie it on water. also this is the knot I use all of the time if you wanna learn new knot pretty easy and alway come out as it should be. all else fail just get VMC spinshot hook or the one post above.

one of the worst lost is that one that can be my PB. This happened last year at canyon lake. I was fishing on a dock, hook up with a nice size bass. Play with the fish a few mins let him run a couple times until I think he tired enough. Bring the fish in so I can lay down on dock to lip it up. The fish is pretty good size 5lb or more. The dock is pretty high from water. I grabed the line and did what others tell you not to do, I twisted the line with my hand while grabbing that #6 hybrid line the fish shook head one last time and say bye bye to me.

I was plan to that since last year but have not had a chance yet. I plan to do topwater balso with buzz blade.

My other thing beside fishing and riding is wood working. I always think of something not too big to built where it helpful around the house. Right now I see many projects for my new house, but I cant since all my tool still with a friend and I had to give away my diy workbench and wheel cart to my friend when we moved.

Fishing to me is a challenge. I dont have a lot of time for trial and error so every trip with mostly an hour or two per trip I have to plan ahead what should I present to fish and with what technique. Most of the time I lost but when I win it makes a big smile out of my face. like my fishing buddy alway says the most anticipalte is the day before we go out fishing together(on a boat) since we will plan, prep and dream of catching big fish.

To me the long leader is help when you try to lift the fish where you dont have to worry about knot in between, in this case the knot cannot be expose to outside of the reel. Also easy to re-tie different lure/hook.

For me with slip bobber I just tie a uni knot with a piece of cut off line then use bead then bobber. This way the bobber will stay put when cast but you still able to adjust the depht of you bait/lure. With clip bobber you have to make sure the metal hook go into the right place when you clip the line. It should be tight enoug to hold it in place. The disavantage of slip bobber is harder to cast if you clip at more than 4-5 feet.

Im kind of sober now. I used to drink quite a lot of coffee 5 or more each day, even more if I have real breakfast. I would look for coffee when hot, cold, tried, or just simply want to relax. Nowsaday I cut myself to 2-3 cups a day and try not to drink when restroom stop is hard to do/find. BTW how do you like your coffee, black, white with a lot of sweet. I drink just pain black and my favorite is Kona and italian rosted but I do drink all kind including favor coffee(wild blueberry is so yummy for movie night).

I just got ct type R 8.1 too and I love the purple color too which I can buy tension know in purple color. The red on type R is just a bit too much on the top.

d**n 3 of scorpion, I envy you. I only want one to match my curado 70HG, I like the color black/red on scorpion more than curado but cant justified spending 200 bucks on that reel(actually not me but the wife). The scorpion and curado are actually the same reel made in malasia(correct me if Im wrong), but from what I heard scorpion trend to cast and reel in smoother than curado. I end up ordered tatula ct type r for dock skipping and to keep in my car as spare reel.

Sound like a big fight on bass set up, thumb up man?
