  1. Congratulations for you new rigs and more adventures to come. Use whatever you enjoy and however you want to use it. BFS or those “BSF” is just a name as long as it help you achieve your goal, nobody else business. I for one will not use spinning with some lures like 1/8oz road runner, kastmaster, lipless crank, fluke and weightless worm (the lure that trends to spin when cast or fast retrieve and the lure that slack or semi slack line can happen) One is a nature to happen to most every one, another is preventable once you become better thumb educated.
  2. 40lb braid main line, you are not gonna feel what you lure is doing on bottoms not even 20lb braid with especially weightless worm or light jig head. You might still catch those hit and run bite but you would loose majority or subtle bite. IMHO my experience. For all purposes line 8lb Copolymer or 8-10lb FC would be better. BTW don’t try to whip hard on 1/2oz spinnerbait if you decided to go with 20lb braid. ????
  3. It should be saltwater safe but I wouldn’t wanna use any of my Daiwa in saltwater due to well known bubble paint problem.
  4. Coming from a “K” if you go with tat SV, you wouldn’t feel much difference and might even disappointed with distance. If you go with 21 Zillion, you will start wondering why Daiwa is so smooth, appreciate more of lightness and more versatile. You will have no doubt why you pay more for Zillion. You might not get the same distance as K in some case but you will gain more of control in any situation or any lure weight. Perfect for overall type fishing.
  5. Actually I like that reel quite a lot, I think I traded that for spinning reel when I first got back into spinning. You gonna like the reel for pitching. I still take out my SLX pitching around trees and brushes from time to time. I had too many reels in the size (line capacity), and all my 70s can do pretty much every thing I need.
  6. I used to have SLX MGL JDM when it first came out. I don’t remember if it has more line capacity than Curado 70 which I have 4. It might be because japan convert line diameter of 0.285mm/100m to lb where most of JDM line (~12lb) are smaller diameter when compare to US line (~8lb) I found here a video that confirm line capacity from SLX MGL JDM and Curado 70.
  7. If I need a new reel right at this moment, I would buy SLX XT in a heartbeat. This from real experience after using more expensive ones from Daiwa and Shimano along side my SLX. This is best bang for bucks reel. The casting distance is great, size is very comfortable to palm and I don’t have to worry too much when on kayak or float tube.
  8. Drag clicker (exciting sound) when line out just like spinning.
  9. Wow even shimano bfs doesn’t have tight tolerance for such small line. What line did you have them spool? It is very good practice to start spool the reel yourself, I guess. You don’t really need a lot of line with shallow spool, 50-70 yds is plenty. You can try different line type that would fit your need. If I may suggest, 10lb Sufix 832 or 6lb hybrid line is good start. Alway bring spool of line with you, one mess up and you might need to re spool. Im not sure how centrifugal magnetic (FTB) perform. You might have to adjust the way you cast. At 1/8oz you might be able to whip it out there but below that or not so aerodynamic lure you might have to do some lob easy cast. Practice with casting plug is good but try to mix with real thing you plan to use with that setup, so you learn how to adjust accordingly. Don’t be shy to use spool tension to help if spool spin too fast when first start. It is a shame, my desire for BFS is way down and prevent me getting one of those Shimano BFS. I love Curado 70 platform the most comfortable palming and still wonder of how FTB perform compare to Daiwa SV or Abu linear mag brake.
  10. My lake water is not super clear, most of the time only a foot or two visibility. I do believe bass can see line but depends on how bass see it. I’m worry about line size more than line color and if I’m in doubt just clear Copolymer will do. I have a pet peeve about line color too, I have less confident in light color braid especially white. I do catch bass with them but if I can use leader (Copolymer) I would. you already use small line, you should try it without leader. Another way is using larger size FC leader line. Most of mono/Copolymer always have larger diameter than FC. 8lb Copolymer is about the same as 10lb FC line. You can even bump up to 12lb leader since we know FC has less knot strength compare to mono/Copolymer.
  11. @jeffalessi801 check out this video, inside Vanford should be very similar as Stradic FL. I’m with @The BassmanIm happy with Fanford as is.
  12. You should be able to try to fix it yourself, I saw plenty of instructions on YouTube regarding Daiwa’s Anti reverse failure. If you gonna send the reel in anyway, professional should be able to look at it for you. It might be as simple as cleaning the clutch or the most expensive, replacing it. I might have to keep eyes on 4 of my Daiwa reels.
  13. 15-20 yds seem short for 7’6 ML? Maybe line too low on spool or plastic is too heavy and not so aero dynamic?
  14. This is second person I heard has anti reverse problem with Tatula LT. How often you oil the reel especially bearing on the shaft? I haven’t had any problem with all my Daiwa LT series yet (knock on wood). The only place I oil spinning reel often is roller bearing, never oil other bearing unless main service. Regarding to upgrade, some ppl replace spool support bushing with bearing and swear by it. I don’t really see a lot of benefit but it is cheap to upgrade as well as knob bearing.
  15. Have anyone that own this rod ever feel that reel in not tight secure? I just got this rod not long and been fishing with it for that last few weeks. I only mount with Shimano Core 50MG so far. I have no problem fighting the fish though just some noise. BTW I got 7’2 M/F.
  16. Thanks never thought of that. I’ll give it a try next time I need connection know. I always carry a pair of forceps anyway.
  17. Should be since it is on project T and also features with US anglers.
  18. I used to use blood knot for mono to mono, but now I think I can tie double uni knot faster. I’m not gonna tell you to not use leader to hivis yellow line. It is a confident thing, but I catch plenty of fish on yellow line and it even less significant on line type at night.
  19. Deep spool or shallow spool, I’m not worry much. Most spinning users probably will use backing anyway. If you plan to use all mono/FC, just think as one time investment. Once you ready to re-spool again just cut where you see the line that never get used (lay pretty twisted and flat on spool) Alixpress used to offer SLP shallow spool for lower end Daiwa spinning reel pretty cheap (black and silver version). I’m not sure if you still can find one now. A couple friend got them and they like it a lot. Something like this but it was 15 bucks at that time. https://www.ebay.com/itm/254963069983?hash=item3b5cfbb41f:g:ITcAAOSwUAtgjYeC
  20. The zillion HD will utilize 34mm spool and can be swapped with most of the 34mm spool reels (love that from Daiwa). The ZILLION SV spool weight 12+ grams where as Zillion HD is 14+ grams, line capacity seem like HD got more 16-100m compare to 14lb-90m. With MagZ boost (even less brake profile) it is good option for medium size swimbait for sure. I definitely get this spool, too bad mine is JDM so it is aluminum gear. BTW Zillion JDM weight 6.3oz G-us 6.7oz and this bad boy 7.1oz.
  21. Wait a bit longer Daiwa come with Zillion HD 1000 (no SV) blackout zillion with brass gear. As for Zillion SV TW, I can say that I like it more than bantam that I replaced. It smooth all the way especially when retrieving the lure. It cast well especially in the wind but struggling a little bit in the distance when compare to Shimano, (because of stronger SV brake). It got pretty good smooth drag also. The think I don’t like, size just a tad too big for my hand, noise from Twing when moving/shaking the rod.
  22. If you want smooth, Daiwa can’t be beat compare at the same price point. I have Old Abu CD4 center brake, the reel were great but anti reverse stop working after a couple years. I have Shimano CI4 and the reel lost smoothness after a few years of used. I have Vanford even brand new still not as smooth as the cheapest Daiwa I have. I also have Sahara about 10-15 years old, still work fine and somewhat smooth enough but got noisy. I own a few Daiwa, Legalis, Exceler, Fuego, Tatula, Kage and ballistic FW and none of them have anti reverse problem yet. These reels got used hard the past couple years and still perform great. BTW I never touch Daiwa anti reverse (back reeling) and prefer not to have it. If you wanna try Daiwa again and doesn’t need anti reverse goes with MQ body like New BG or Caldia (oversea).
  23. Should be less than 200. No mention of SV just Magforce Z.
