Line capacity/dumb question
Most of Japanese reel would use line diameter standard for Japan market (not fault advertising US line). If you plan to use Tatsu, you should expect the same line capacity as stated (METANIUM US model ~ 10/120 12/110). For 15lb line you should be able to get almost 100 yards or 20 around 70-80yards.

Why do you fish?
Because it is relaxing yet challenging, same as Golfing.

Am I nuts buying Tatsu ?
I don’t know about you but if I spent that much on a line for bass, I would call myself super nut. I don’t fish for money or trophies so just good enough FC (Seaguar red label/abrazx ) or Copolymer (Izorline/hybrid) works for me. For crappie and if I have to spend that much to gain just 15-20yds distance, I would.

Fix for grindy, sticky reel
I got almost the same but not quite bad with Ci4 (2500F). It is still smooth but a little bit too much resistance when start cranking the handle (not when playing with fish). The last cleaning I added as little grease as I can to get it going. It feel a little bit better and I decided to retire the reel for catfish instead.

Curado Bfs or something else
I hope I gave you the right opinion (at least my own experience). I have 5-6 reels that can be called BFS but I hardly use those unless special specific need like, weightless 3” Senko or finesse worm, Neko rig where nano braid give me the best performance and when I need small braid to cut through weed. I doubt there would be much different internally between Tatula SV 70 and alphas SV TW, But you are right about after market spool. If OP ever consider dipping his toe into BFS, the alphas with free floating spool would be better choice. I almost ordered Ray’s spool last time I open AliExpress app???. Hopefully they don’t jack up price on Alphas once Tatula become more available.

Curado Bfs or something else
I know you didn’t ask me but I think no one can answer you like now since Tatula SV70 is not available yet. If you are talking about other Tatula SV TW, I would go with either Curado or SLX 70MGL. The Shimano in this case is smaller and easier to move shake or twisted compare to bigger old Tatula, at least in my medium size gloves hands. If you wanna up your game a little bit, you might have to get Alphas SV TW (from oversea). The reel is as small and similar shape as Curado 70. The SV brake system would help control backlash better on lighter lure. Btw the new Tatula SV70 is the same frame as alphas with smaller spool (a little bit less line capacity) available to pre order from tackle trap.

Curado Bfs or something else
From what you list the 70MGL might fit better. More line capacity and more versatile. BFS might cast further but just one snag you might need to re fill the spool. 8lb line might get you around 50 yds on less and the further you can cast the more hook set it requires. I don’t see no problem whatsoever and I frog with Curado 70. Small size but pack with power. Might need to upgrade drag if frogging in heavy weed, that all it takes.

Rod/reel in person or online?
If I can buy in person I would but if it is a lot cheaper I don’t mind online either. The reel is one I have confidence in buying online from here or overseas even I’ve never seen or touch in person. I always check and make sure the reel has spec I want. Rod on the other hand, I got disappointed a few times from buying online. Mostly from brand that I never have experienced before. I always check and compare before buying but too many factors of the rod to be considered, like comfort of reel seat/trigger, the overall weight, too too heavy, too stiff, too soft. I always stay with the brand I trust but even that still got some bad taste from time to time. I think I have 3-4 rods that I buy online and hardly use them plus some 4-5 that I sold pretty cheap after I got them.

Shimano Stella FJ fishing reels - next update?
I really want to know more about Infinite loop on this Stella. I’ve been looking for small size spinning reel with slow or super slow oscillation. Please post about casting distance compare with same size reel and how it handle braid/super line. Nope I don’t have the fund for Stella but will definitely keep an eyes out for other Shimano with this technology.

Introducing The New Tatula SV70
30mm spool? im not a Daiwa expert like some here, but smaller SV spool, same 7+1 bearing and same 6.5oz. I don’t hold my breath. I don’t see the spool yet but will of course post here as soon as I see it.

Fix for grindy, sticky reel
Check the o-ring under rotor that might need to be replaced. It’s well known problem of Shimano where binding happen. You can just leave it off and see if it improves when spin the handle.

Vanford Vs. Stradic FL 2500
No wonder there is always a talk back and forth between spinning (fairy wand) and baitcaster (mucho man) because a think like that. Do you know why so many new words (that you called technology) into baitcaster? Because they wanna be able to do what spinning can do all along. Some baitcaster even try to copy line out(drag) sound from spinning lol.

Daiwa Tatula TW 80
No it is not, I agree like I mentioned earlier. If Daiwa give this reel 100 or 103 spool I would be even more interested. I used to have Tatula CT type R, like the reel for medium-heavy duty used. On hard cast sometime I got spool vibration(maybe?) and line start puffing uncontrollable. The price right now cheapest you can get from Japan is around 165 and SV 70 might be around 185 marks still a good price but again Alphas can be have at 180-200 as well. I just disappointed because I like old brake dial better than the one come with Alphas and Zillion. I want DAIWA not Shimano ???.

Daiwa Tatula TW 80
I’m seriously like the Daiwa old brake dial from this reel and plan to make two tones alphas like the rest of them.

Thumb guards for bass fishing?
I would use self elastic bandage found cheap on Amazon. It stay self adhesive pretty good even when wet. I use this when practice golf. Unfortunately I never need this for bass and I have city hand, not sure how would your thumb would look like after been wet for 6-8 hours every days. https://www.amazon.com/Adherent-Cohesive-Bandages-Adhesive-Athletic/dp/B094Q3YWJK/ref=mp_s_a_1_15?crid=17M7HROLLLWYH&keywords=self+elastic+bandage&qid=1646048242&sprefix=self+elastic+bandage%2Caps%2C211&sr=8-15

Introducing The New Tatula SV70
Yeah I wish Daiwa hold on to original name as Alphas or something new not another tatula.

Shimano Calais Knobs
Those are old septon knob which Shimano hasn’t use those on any reels for quite a while since Curado 50e? I don’t think Calais use rivet to hold the knob, you should be able to replace with Shimano knob available, like power knob the one from Curado 200 K (bigger, fattier) or finesse knob the one from 70MGL. If you wanna keep original look, you can search eBay for Calcutta 200B handle assembly and only use the knobs. (You might have to make sure the knob is removable). Regarding while Shimano doesn’t offer knobs separate, I’m not sure. Some of the reels are the saw way since Curado I or even current SLX where the knob definitely replaceable.

Current Favorite Wacky Rig Hook ?
I’m in with VMC weedless Neko hook too. I use size #2, #1 and 1/0 depend how I hook Senko. If I use o-ring #2 or #1 is good enough, Senko with shrink tube I hook about 1/4 through body then #1 or 1/0, if Senko by itself hook 1/2 of the body 1/0. I use many size because I do a lot of Neko rig with different type worm from Trick worm, roboworm and full size stick worm. If I want just plain wacky style hook (shorter shrank) 1/0 Trokar weedless wacky hook get it done for me.

The new Bantam is coming in March
Only a little for me in term of fishing and landing fish. The new MGL spool might cast a little further for light weight lure but I doubt it will be very noticeable and in term of reality not many would use bantam 150 size spool for those type of techniques. You might feel a little more smoothness on Bantam out of the box due to solid core body but long run I’m not sure. That silent tune bearing spring might cause some resistance and grinding, it also make it a bit harder to set spool tension properly. The core solid body sound great in paper but do we need a heavier tank type reel in bass fishing. There are plenty of light weight plastic reels that can last a long time too. I’d rather use lighter weight quality reels because I do a lot of moving rod and reel while fishing(not just cast drag and reel), even an ounce can help me stay in comfort for longer hours. BUT Bantam MGL is so beautiful just to look at. You can enjoy the reel not just while fishing but even on the shelf. It is one heck of a novelty reel that very affordable, it is a fine art in reel. While I had my bantam I was afraid to use it in rough condition, just one scratch I would kick myself hard. I don’t mind if scratches happens to my other same price reels. If you have bantam lay next to Curado, ppl would notice bantam way before Curado. If that worth the price upgrade to you? Only you can answer. BTW one mentioned about cone shape line guide, if you never try one you wouldn’t know how handy it gets, way better than TWing system. If I can upgrade all my Shimano reels I wouldn’t mind spending 30-40 bucks for just those guide. I’ve used on 4 of the reels, bantam, Aldebaran, core and 16 stephano.

Am I limiting myself by using a M for dropshotting?
You already got an answer from @Delaware Valley Tackleand the best one if I would say so.

Buying my first B C in 70 years. opinions on a Lews LFS-SS1SHA at Cabela's $100
@Big HandsI might be wrong then. I never use light line and a soft rod that require such a hook set. I mostly use light line for open hook application or the most light wire #2 and #4 ewg hook. I can break 15lb braid no leader easily with weightless Fatika when set hook at close counter 25-30 feet. (even though I use regular not super line 4/0 hook). I choose the line size and type that match my style of fishing which might be different from you guys.

Buying my first B C in 70 years. opinions on a Lews LFS-SS1SHA at Cabela's $100
@Big Handshow much line you have on your reel? I normally only spool halfway or 50-75yds of 10lb braid. Shallow spool doesn’t need full spool of line for casting distance and we normally don’t cast 30-40yds even though I do quite often with my 1/8oz roadrunner or 1/8 lipless. I also don’t set hook hard when using such small line, I just jerk the rod and reel in to set hook. Why I think most BFS only offer in XG or high speed, I might be wrong though. For those that know better you can correct me but please don’t quote me.
