  1. Some online places still have some, I checked first few and see some in stock but at full price though. Amazon still have 151 free shipping available Scheels still have 150 available free shipping as well.
  2. Maybe clean drag stack and add some grease would help. Alternatively upgrade to smooth carbon drag if you have felt drag. All my Daiwas, have similar issue, not stick but kind of tighter than usual when store with drag set. Every time I wanna use the reel, I loosened the drag pull line out a few feet and set the drag where I want.
  3. That is the way to go, just don’t give them any more business. Think Positive, You only out the shipping cost and some down time. Hopefully Shimano got the thing right for you. I also had Shimano Vanford 2000s that is not super smooth at first (compare to other Daiwas). It became smoother after awhile. The problem is the reel was from Oversea and Shimano would not warranty oversea’s reel.
  4. Agree ^^^^ I was gonna say Zoom as well, the price is easier to buy for all ages anglers, convenient to find at Walmart and the name is pretty well known.
  5. For 3/8oz or more with aero dynamics shape lure, I’d prefer centrifugal brake. This will give you the most distance. When light lure or windy, Magnetic brake will give you the most and easiest of control. Daiwa Magforce brake is like combination of both world but still got some ill effect of magnetic where brake still apply a little too much at the end of the cast which you don’t really need with heavier type lure.
  6. With amount of light weight shallow spools I have, I doubt I would need more. I don’t even touch some of those for awhile now. Super light weight/shallow spool like BFS is good and should be big improvement if I plan to only cast light lure. I would be limited in line type and if I want to use for something heavier like 3/8 and up I doubt it would help from that lower start up inertia???? The perfect blend for me is versatile reel just like Pixy or CQ50 too bad I don’t have those in left hand.
  7. How about a baitcaster with AR clutch/mechanism removed? How much weight are we talking here? Just simple 1:1 winch reel like this might be better choice??? https://www.harborfreight.com/2000-lb-marine-electric-winch-61237.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=12234957525&campaignid=12234957525&utm_content=122519897452&adsetid=122519897452&product=61237&store=445&gclid=CjwKCAjwjZmTBhB4EiwAynRmD0mwNOkwQOj8axdX5KOkmtsaIrNVlPud6LXwGyF7qvbH459mYn2NShoC32gQAvD_BwE
  8. I haven’t seen it and right now it is just all speculation. For me I just want a reel that comfortable to hold plus line capacity matching my line type. Shallower spool is good that I can use 6-8lb line without worry about backing or can use 10-15lb braid and don’t have to fill the line too much. As far as distance concerned I don’t have problem with distance much. Yes the alphas cast not as far as my Core 50 but control is top notch especially with wind. Btw I set my dial around 5, 6 when get too windy and 4 when using with heavier and more aerodynamic lure.
  9. Don’t know why but this clip pop up on my YouTube the same time I ordered shallow spool for my alphas SV TW. Of course I canceled the spool order. for Daiwa fan who want true finesse reel and don’t care for BFS, line capacity about half of alphas, less than 70SV and about the same as Pixy. Too bad Daiwa use original color not as fancy as zillion silver wolf. We shall see if I’m gonna have third alphas this year.
  10. For Shimano I’ll be looking at “C” compact, bigger spool on smaller body. “S” shallow spool “M” medium spool. The 2000 size spool is about 43mm while 1000 ~40mm. The “S” hold less line because a lot shallower spool.
  11. Any braid not gonna help in wind, unless you fish close distance and rod tip very close to water level. Even you get a bite you only gonna feel that obvious tab or hit and run other than that good luck.
  12. It happens to any clear line when fishing in green or brownish water. I found the discoloring disappeared after fishing in clear water a few times. If that bothered you, might be a good time to flip the end of line out.
  13. Weightless 4” Senko 8.5lb.
  14. Shimano always come up with weird hook keeper placement. The ones hook keeper got removed are Dropshot specific rod, while other rod in the same series have hook keeper on top. Just like @MickDmentioned, I do have problem with like caught on hook keeper a lot especially in windy when you need to fix some loose line, when fishing with braid, when fixing professional overrun (backlash) or when try to free snagged with bow-arrow method.
  15. Where is the hook placement on the rod? Not that I have any more budget for new rod just curiosity. If it is anything like 2020 Zodias, I don’t have problem with mine. I kind of like it more than hook keeper on top (sometimes line get tangle with hook keeper). Only complain I have is the lure (tie on) get in the way when stored on my rod rack.
  16. The more bearing always better as long as they are good quality and where they are needed. The extras are called luxurious to add smoothness and fluid feel. The question is, would I consider bearing count before brand, size and comfort? Of course not, but I will not buy a reel with one or two bearings.
  17. Thanks I uploaded better pics. I might have to check with community if any water treatment have been done. Scary now, I started seeing weed coming beside all the moss we got the last few weeks.
  18. you beat me by many inches ???. That was a WP 110 btw.
  19. Really depends on what type lure? I would rather have mine in brass gear but when I ordered, US version wasn’t available yet. I set the reel for 15lb FC class for medium to heavy stuff. I want to make sure the main gear can stand up abusive of error casting 1oz lure (not every cast is smooth sailing) or big Hollywood hook set. Im not sure if this matter to you but JDM is made in Japan, USDM is made in Thailand but I do believe all components are the same. Before I ordered the JDM, I already had plan to swap gear between Zillion(JDM) and Alphas (brass) turn out the big metal drag washer doesn’t fit.??? I haven’t tried with my other alphas yet.
  20. Shimano crucial gen 2 CRC-D611MA. This is Shimano dropshot specific but I used for everything, love it especially for fluke and weightless trick worm. The sensitivity is very good, super light weight and balance well. After I broke the rod, I stopped fishing fluke for good.
  21. I didn’t see this on Sunday when we have party at the beach not even yesterday evening (different beach). I said carp spawning at first when only see all the bubbles. Looked closely I saw some white powder like. Some said algae bloom but look like some kind of water treatment. It get pretty hot quick this year in SoCal.
  22. Question is, are these 5 MH rods the same model and brand? Different brand/model even in the same MH range 1/4-1oz lure weight would have different action but similar power. I only have two that exactly the same from 5 that I have. I use different action for different type of techniques. If we are talking about Medium/Fast rod I have maybe 10 rods altogether (6’6” -7’2”) each rod can be use the same in general but excellent in different techniques.
  23. You don’t miss anything but headache. I tie uni knot for everything. Nowadays some hard bait that require loop knot also come with split ring, eliminate the need loop knot. I still do loop knot when bobbers fishing, and Palomar knot for dropshot sometime.
  24. Beside that a lot of companies here either order the weight or mold from China which category by grams anyway no need to convert. For example a lot of 1/32oz jig head is actually 1/24oz.
  25. He was answering OP question alright, just an old fingers that type “mg” instead of grams. OP asked if 5 gram is considered as UL or light lure. I use different method 2grams ~1/16oz, 4~1/8, 8~1/4oz or I just ask “Siri”
