Death by Ned
If I gutted hook bass more, my wife would be even happier and might let me buy more stuffs. Last year she only got 2-3 bass, this year one so far, sleeping in the freezer from deadly Fatika and 4/0 hook and that compare to several hundreds I caught each year. What is percentage 1%? I’ll take that. Like my pro golf always tell me “get off those YouTube video”

Two classic baits I've been using for the first time. Both excellent

Yeah I wish I have small mouth around here. I’ve heard it put up fight lb to lb a lot harder than LMB.

Least Visible Line?
I don’t fish very clear water so line visibility is my less concerned. To me though least visible line is whatever smallest line you preferred and can get away with, mono/Copolymer FC sometimes braid, with less or subtle movements. If you move the line too much too aggressive, the more fish would notice your line. I might be wrong, though.

Yama's new product: Senko TRD
Login to say it does work with dropshot at least. Caught about 6 before loosing the lure. Durability not that of Elaztech but better than 3” Senko that I use a lot for dropshot.

Death by Ned
Totally agree, that is a very inaccurate assumption. 1-2 every 30 bass on each 150 boat, 5 days period. I don’t think he was even one of those boat to keep the stat. Of course any lure have a chance to be deep hook, the more it catches fish the more chance it gets. Of course we cannot proof that gutted hook would survive after released. Anyone listen to this “I don’t know who” guys, never fish Ned Rig.

Yama's new product: Senko TRD
Thanks I got two bags of Ned Senko to try out. Just FYI because I’m a sucker I have to buy a few more things that I don’t need for these Ned Senko to save shipping cost???. 8-12 bass per bait sound good since I lost the whole rig after a few bass anyway. I don’t actually just buy it for Ned Rig but for dropshot as well.

Latest Catch Pics Thread
Came back from work and see some shade sky so I stopped at the lake. First cast on the drop feel something different set the hook and came up with this bass with 1 minute in. Was it my sensitive 10 year old rod? Was it my sensitive 10 lb braid line? Was it my perfect palming 6oz alphas reel? Maybe my accuracy casting skill? Nope I call it darned lucky catch. First bite cast myth, I don’t know and not gonna wait to find out. Stayed only 15 minutes under hot SoCal sun. I called it quit and be happy with this one.

what is your drop-shot worm of choice?
You should try Z drop worm, green weenie.

Casting Rod vs Spinning Rod Specific Techniques
I was thinking the same thing “just a kid or a troll”. I haven’t participated in a lot of posting nowadays and checked his PB post just now. Sorry to him that I have doubt but still my answer would still be the same.

Casting Rod vs Spinning Rod Specific Techniques
Seem like you are gathering too much information in such short period of time. In a month you goes from high end BFS to big swimbait to many type rigs and now to spinning vs baitcaster. Gathering information is good but your own experience is better. You cannot copy everyone technique at once. Some might only use baitcaster then they will do everything They can and adapt to perfection that technique. Some prefer spinning then that might use the technique that they comfortable with. Like some mentioned there is none that spinning can do but baitcaster can’t or vice versa. It up to the individual to adapt to fish the way comfortable them. I have a few nice spinning rigs, but only use those for a fews like Neko/Shakey head because it is more comfortable for me to shake the worm with the way I hold the rod in my fingers. Not about weight or easy to cast or distance. I also own 5-6 so called BFS and successfully used them for over a year for both bass and panfish. Now I hardly used those not be because I cannot cast 1oz lure or crappie jig but I feel it too much over power and take half of the fun off. For bass with my catch average about 3lb bass and often time I fish around cover like pipe, three/brushes. Weed and rock, BFS is simply not enough power to control fish and risk or damage my own equipments and the fish by leaving a lot of broken line in water. I am not knocking down any rigs or technique but I will shrug my shoulders every time when someone post about some techniques and only with spinning to catch fish or someone post about lucky catch of big fish on BFS and start recommending BFS to everyone. I think you will have more and enjoyable success if you develop your own techniques base on your liking, your location and the way you fish. We don’t fish the same water, structure, bank or boat, thus too much gathering become confusing. And admitted your question is too widely you would have tons of different answer.

Casting Rod vs Spinning Rod Specific Techniques
I’m not sure if this guy is for real or just a troll from all his posts since high end BFS. Spinning vs baitcaster all is up to individual to use them, there is no such things like has to be one on the other. Definitely bass wouldn’t know.

Curado 70 MGL Geary On Retrieve
It doesn’t seem to happen with reel before Curado 70. I have 200ipg use for nothing but big spinnerbait and 2.5oz lure but still smooth. I used my Chronarch 50e hard jerking 95SP, zoom magnum fluke or chatterbait, smooth until the day I sold it. But we are talking about Curado 70 here which is very un-usual for Shimano. To be fair all 4 of mine really get used almost everyday, some showed sign slower than other. The one I used for frog seem to be the hardest hit one.

Channel catfish baits
I used to use fresh peeled shrimp for catfish until my wife knew and prohibit me from using it. I hate cut mackerel it stinks more than just a fishing trip. Now I just use bacon (cut half or 1/3) marinated in vanilla extract or jello/kool-aid powder. No matter what you are using those bullhead won’t leave your bait alone. I even target them a few time for my Asian friend.

Curado 70 MGL Geary On Retrieve
A little weird though, this doesn’t happen to other smaller aluminum frame or magnesium frame like, any of the Shimano 50e series both aluminum/magnesium. Alphas SV TW from a hard year of used.

Curado 70 MGL Geary On Retrieve
Cheapest way as @Tatulatardmentioned is to replace both X-ship bearings. If that doesn’t help Shimano have gearset available for pretty reasonable price. Since your reel is still pretty new why don’t you contact Shimano. You might be able to send the reel in to look at under warranty.

Curado 70 MGL Geary On Retrieve
I cannot believe this happen with the Curado 70MGL that fast. I was hoping the bearing support mainshaft would help since I don’t hear a lot of complain on the 200K. Anyway another note, since Shimano use spool shaft with pieces of carbon fiber on both side, if you set spool tension too much you would feel a little bit of grinding when reeling. X-ship bearing I replaced both of mine and those didn’t help. I guess I abused the reel too much. What gear ratio you got? It might not related but haven’t heard a lot of complain from XG model.

JDM Daiwa Zillion users
First of all, customized stuff it goes with all Daiwa lol. You should buy reel that feel more comfortable to palm and line capacity matching the technique. The zillion is a tad too big for my liking, maybe because I use left hand reel instead of my usual right hand. I once recommended Alphas to a guy, end up I bought it from him because he like the size and feel of his 3 zillions better. To me which usually fish 8-12lb line, 800 is good enough but I still need 15lb from Zillion from time to time. I don’t wanna have forth alphas if you end up don’t like it, lol. Cheap drag clicker? I don’t like the one that glue bent metal washer on to main gear ($35), the other brand “sagisi” also glue pieces of plastic like the one come with zillion but cost about $60. You only need 3 zillion parts to make it work and opt for either brass or aluminum for the cost of 60-70 plus shipping from Japan. Handle the one I have just cheap 90mm carbon fiber to save weight. The knob is old i-shape Daiwa cork knob. Spool is Ray’s studio shallow spool to also save weight and no need for backing when use 10lb braid. I’m in your plain as well, got money and wife approved already to buy a reel but can’t make decision. I want alphas 800S shallow spool to replace (Ray’s spool), should I buy just spool 60-70 plus shipping or get forth Alphas, should I get another right hand zillion since I have other 34mm shallow spool ready for it and I already have 3 alphas.

Leader
Weighing method is no semi-slack line to me. On my other post I also fish jig with 30lb braid no leader. Once you start weighting jig you reel in slack of your line and feel the rod tip that give if line suddenly change???? I have no problem using braid with jig, but this guy advised using braid for thing like Senko. When I post this 6 thing all my mind is about “him and all the thing he post against my experience alone” not about others in general.

Lew's and Doyo
Wasn’t it you that always go into Daiwa or Shimano thread and post “should have get lews” or “lews is the best” compare to what? your only little experience with only lews brand?

1 backlash less, it is not so true unless you only cast one way and only use a few type heavy lure or only 15-20 yds is satisfied distance for you. 2 when backlash easier to get out.this I believe depends on experience but you only use 50lb rope. Maybe that why. I had to cut my braid once 40lb, because I slings 1/2 spinnerbait so hard. 3. Doesn’t damage the line. Let me say damage less would be better word. 4. Feel way more bite. Yes if you only count the fish that show aggressively bite which usually small fish. From my little experience that type bite is only 50-60% of all the fish I caught (more percentages on small fish, less and less when the fish get bigger. Feel your lure doing? You must cast 5-10 yards away to feel Senko with 50lb rope. 5. Last long time, I agree cost less may be true if you have multiple rig. For those that have a few and wanna change line to fit the lure and techniques getting 8, 12 and 20lb big game line might be more cost effective and can fish in variety type on techniques. 6 hardly loose any lure, you might only fish in no structure farm pond or only moving bait.

As Tom said he quoted him only part that he feel fit to him and leave the explanation, such convenience, wouldn’t you agree!!!! I only have a few baitcaster that use braid, all don’t see the use as often as my Mono/FC rigs. My 30lb braid rig only frog/jig and topwater, no leader ever. My 10-15lb rig that I use a lot lately because of weed and no leader. All spinning 10lb for Neko rig (braid is lighter make shaking/moving lure easier with sligh movement) 8lb Copolymer leader.

Best colors/lures for SoCal
I don’t think color is really matter much. How deep are we talking here. If I were you I would worry more about techniques to get around weed edge, inside is easier but outside would get you more fish but harder without boat or kayak. If weed is not thick bass might stay inside ambush other bait fish. Dropshot around weed edge might be a good technique, sliders head with low profile plastic can get you into the weed easier. I mostly use Fatika weightless to fish deeper water. The weight and slightly low profile can get me through weed or fish around the edge.

Best colors/lures for SoCal
If you can fish weightless roboworm 6”. The staple color from what I’ve heard and used are any MM1-3 Arron Magic and oxblood. Deeper water you can go with 4” senko also weightless with usual color like green pumpkin but the dark cinnamon with purple flake works very well in my lake and pudding stone.
