This happened while cleaning a reel
Same thing happened to me when cleaning old Luna 253. I made sure to rub it gently but the drag is pretty thin compare to carbontex in newer reels. Look inside your reel and bring back memory. Love the Daiwa smoothness but hate the full service. Just to get to frame bearing everything has to come off. Still have parts of Alphas SV105 laying around unassembled. I could make a good working reel with those but just too lazy.

8lb in rocks
8lb Copolymer or 8lb FC? Most of my setup are 8lb Copolymer / 10lb FC. I use this mostly everywhere including rip-rap. If I’m gonna drag the lure like weight Texas rig, jig around rock I sometimes up the rig to 10 or 12lb class. Of course I got some break off occasionally but I’d rather have that than restrictions of the lure movement or cast control from bigger line.

Why you should never go fishing without a spinning rod
You know, I totally agree if you post about the techniques that should work really well this time of year and not included about gears. Most of the anglers would have both baitcaster and spinning, less than 20% only have one or another and even less that that prefer to use just only one type. To use whatever gear for each technique should up to them. Start posting like that called for separation and in the past I saw so many arguments related to either spinning or casting they preferred. Of course I have a few nice spinning myself and only use with Neko Rig because I feel the way I hold spinning rod give me the best efficiency to shake the worm not the distance or accuracy, yada yada yada. I do everything else with baitcaster long ago even before I owed BFS setups. I do have quite a few of video to proof but it is not really necessary. How far can I cast? Far enough to catch fish that what I care about. this thread would gone far smoother and beneficial more to new angle if you had not include “spinning”. 80% of the responses here concentrate on gears spinning or baitcaster and almost none associated the techniques you mentioned.

Why you should never go fishing without a spinning rod
But why have to be spinning VS baitcaster. Of course they both tool and can catch fish. Would it be better if I can only carry one setup (baitcaster of course) not 2 of those 3 of these and still can use with any techniques efficiently include dropshot shakey head Ned rig or whatever you think you can only catch bass with spinning? I catch plenty of fish in what techniques you mentioned, shakey head, dropshot, Neko rig Ned rig wacky rig weightless worm, you name it.

Daiwa Zillion at Amazon Japan?
@newapti5For #2 Amazon Japan using point system, maybe that why you see the discount? I know my friend who ordered a lot got some free shipping. #5 I didn’t know Amazon got used reels, might have to check them out. I willing to risk order from Amazon Japan compare to Alixpress or eBay for oversea reels.

Daiwa Zillion at Amazon Japan?
I got a couple reels from Amazon, they have been great so far. The shipping cost is about 2000 yens now compare to 1400 year ago. I also got mostly rods from Digitaka, they are pretty comparable price a little bit more but better selection. Good thing about order from Digitaka, you can order dress up part and knob along with your reel order.

Why leader on braid?
Yes until the 800S become available.
-
Why leader on braid?
If you are prefer not to use leader, go ahead, there are many that use braid without leader. I also use braid with and without leader. The main and only purpose to use leader would be abrasion resistance when using small braid. Do we really need 40lb braid to land bass? I use braid but mainly for cutting power around weed, low stretch for better hookset when fishing deep or all spinning to prolong line twisted problem. 15lb braid no leader when fishing around weed.

Daiwa TW80 Ramblings
I used to have right hand steez ex100 with stock 105mm. The handle get in the way when casting a lot of time. My old Daiwa pixy and alphas come with 80mm handle and I don’t have slice problem with that. For some, no matter what Daiwa they got cheap or expensive, they will upgrade or customize the reels in some way, because it is a Daiwa thing.

Daiwa TW80 Ramblings
FYI if Tatula JDM uses same handle as alphas, it is 85mm not 84mm, a whole one millimeters different.??? If Tatula USA uses same knob as Zillion G then the knob is bigger, that might worth consider if you don’t like small knob. btw for those of tatula tw80 fan, you might be able to do this too.

(For Me) the worst thing about Braid-line is.......
Boomerang snip for carrying around and 3” cuda for at home. The worst thing you can do with these cutting tool is clipping the knot especially Nylon line. I almost always cutting mono line in the deepest parts of blade and leave the rest for braid line.

Personal Best Largemouth Bass - 6/1/2022
Congrats on the big bass. I wonder those who commented have caught any 6-7lb let alone double digit bass themselves. There are those honest believe and those long hand and just plain lie. Some just posted about judging ppl too fast and here we go again.

First boat. Sub-1k. SoCal
I used to own 14’ pimped out Jon boat. End up selling to my neighbor for $1400 for his bird hunting addiction. Cost to me was 2300 come with live well, trolling motor and 15hp outboard. I don’t really recommend this type of Jon boat where is windy or choppy wave. It is not very stable to stand on and hard to control with just a little bit of wind. It great for cruising around and can get into very shallow area, and drifting for catfish. It was fun owning that boat but without my fishing buddy, I only use it a couple time a year not worth 150 fee for lake use and registration for my lake.

My best effective lure of all time was / is a
It is very easy to rig and can be fish anywhere even the nastiest location where other weightless trend to snagged. I rig it tentacles first and the most effective way are slow drag or lift-drop-soak. The most problem I see when ppl fishing Fatika if moving too much too fast, me included. This is true story, I recently introduced Fatika to a young friend. He came to fish with me this memorial weekend. The first night he caught a 7lb bass, yesterday he caught another 6 bass in a couple hours.

Favorite fluke...
I’ll vote for Yamamoto D-Shad as my favorite even though I have a lot more fluke color. The weight, rate of fall and plastic is perfect for fish both fast and slow.

Neko rig question
Neko rig is considered exposed hook application, you don’t really need to set hook hard. It is also kind of tight line fishing so just a short jerk or sweeping is plenty enough. You will also see plenty of time bass will hit and run so just hold the rod tight and high and keep tension the hook will get into bass mouth itself. I use 8lb Copolymer as leader on my M/F spinning. I like braid mainline better for this application, making the shake and the hop easier.

Size of Backing-Spinning Reels
Use whatever line you have laying around unused. If knot too big and interfere with casting you can tape over the knot but most of ppl would put too much mainline that they wouldn’t see the knot for long long time. Weight also have nothing to do with it using smaller or bigger line and will not effect any casting performance.

What size Neko Hook for Wacky Rig?
#2 is fine for using with o-ring. Some think bigger hook better hookup but that up to individual. I use shrink tube and alway hook into some of the plastic, so 1/0 is perfect for me. weedless or not, depends on your location. I mostly use weedless hook just not for weed but snagged as well. If you don’t have that problem, might as well get regular hook where you can buy 25 packs.

What is your favorite fluorocarbon leader and straight line.
This ^^^ but main reason is not just to save line but less problematic with line twisted, windknot. You can go as high as 15-20lb braid with 10-15lb leader while straight mono/fc you limited to only light line. I also prefer mono/Copolymer as leader, comparable abrasion resistance but a lot stronger knot than FC. With that short of leader I don’t think FC have any advantage whatsoever over mono/Copolymer.
-
Thoughts on Line Conditioners?
It seems like the knots is your problem not the line itself. FC line especially one that stiff is goons be hard to clinch properly and also easily to burn when connected with braid line. Light Texas rig, finesse techniques don’t require hard hook set like heavy wire jig hook plus wire guard. Changing to bigger line might help in short term but changing the way you set hook might save you for a long run, along with proper connection knot and hook knot.

Do you have duplicates of any of your rods as backup to keep you on the water while waiting for a warranty?
I don’t really hear a lot from ppl buying a rod and expect it to break under any circumstances. Yes it can happen but with care, use the right tool for the right job and not abused the rod should last for a long long time. You only have three setups, it wouldn’t hurt if you buy another whole setup even the duplicate one. You can use one for dropshot another for Ned Rig then you wouldn’t have any down time.

Do you have duplicates of any of your rods as backup to keep you on the water while waiting for a warranty?
Are you in tournament? I have more than one rod that can do the same task one might be better than others but it is workable. Yes I have a few duplicate rod but not tie up to just one specific technique but because I like the feel, sensitivity and comfortable of the rods and think it could work for other techniques as well. Hey if you have money and room laying around, it is not a bad idea to have backup rods. I know I lost one of my favorite rod and it is hard to replace once they discontinued.

GOAT Hack
Nice I used to fish with hard leg frog for awhile. The hook that I PMed you (3/0) actually for that and Zman jerk Shad. I add weight using solid lead core wire cut and climp down to size with pliers. Then secure with shrink tube.
