  1. I agree water or at least moisture can get into any reels, some less some more. I still remember old day when put back Abu 6500, I had to apply grease around the rim to prevent unnecessary moisture. After the “K” I did the same with curado 70 and Daiwa reels and I didn’t see as much moisture (actually pretty dry). Regarding moisture make it more slippery or not, you have a lot more experience than me so I believe you. My point is when I clean my reel, I apply super thin coat of grease (rub grease on my finger then apply to drag disc not washer. It is kind of dry but the next cleaning, moisture get into it and make it more greasy and slippery. I might be wrong but that what my experience. I did not say K is bad just want to point that out. I even told the guy that brought my reel about this issue, especially if he use the reel in saltwater.
  2. Water get into drag stack plus grease make it more slippery.
  3. It happened quite a few times with my 8-10lb braid line. As @JediAmoebamentioned try it nothing to loose, if you plan to replace the line anyway. You don’t want any knot on your braid, more trouble, bigger knot will follow.
  4. You should be able to cast that weight further even with 6lb trilene. I think you could change to 10-15lb braid and see if make any difference. As far as longer rod, yes it would help but 7’ rod probably got longer handle (2-3”) than your 6’6, you might only got 3-4” of advantages.
  5. Got this reel brand new 200KHG, used only a couple hours in morning, sold it right after. It might not be an issue but I didn’t wait to find out. You can check and tighten drag after using it awhile. It shouldn’t get any more loose after this point.
  6. Too bad I moved too far out and sold most of my ocean gears. Targeting fish in the bay should be good and safe enough.
  7. Nice I might join you sometime in future. I used to live in Los Al but only fish on jetty by seal beach and some time queen marry for those huge mackerel.
  8. So you try to cast 1/5oz jig head with TRD? If yes the total weight must be close to 3/8oz. The ML rod with 1/16oz tip gonna have hard time casting such weight. You might have to adjust casting to smooth lob cast. I considered myself newbie for spinning and still learning to improve my casting and accuracy. Today I went out to test brand spanking new Curado 6’10M/XF 3/16-5/8oz. I can cast 1/20oz Ned about 25-30yds easily (I use 10lb braid). Might be a good time for you to drop the weight to 1/16oz, you don’t want to fish Ned Rig with too heavy jig head anyway.
  9. I have seen quite a few of ppl want to swap to 5x gear and quite a few of Shimano reel in US doesn’t come with 5x (PG) gear ration any more. May be 5x (IPT 22”) is the past and shimano think 6x (IPT 25”) have enough power to crank and speed to get into zone faster especially deep diving. Seriously I have 200ipg that I haven’t used for years, and that reel is still smooth, smoother than a lot of new reel these days. New gear set gonna cause you 30-50 bucks but you should be able to find used 200i for around 80-100.
  10. What kind of reel is this? Daiwa with ATD drag?
  11. What? Nobody like banana?
  12. We help @Tron70that asked just 19 hours ago Tom.
  13. Gulp minnow usually fish like senko. If you like scent worm, try missile bait 48z I normally don’t use weight when wacky rig senko, but will use weight (1/16oz) for finesse worm, thick worm or knock off senko. But if you use 1/32oz weight on senko/knock off, that would enchant the action of fall, good for 10’ of water. You can also try dropshot with wacky rig. Get weedless wacky rig hook, that will help with snag also. I use trokar #1 and 1/0 weedless. for weight you can try split shot and clip at the hook shrank. I use eco pro tungsten wacky weight 1/16 and 1/32
  14. You need split ring to connect swivel to lure (doesn’t come with it) unless you use snap swivel. If you have duo lock snap then you don’t need split ring just buy good swivel (bearing type)
  15. Try Q-tip trick remove just a little of the cotton at time, insert and make sure it snug fit. If too tight keep remove the cotton until you can insert the whole q-tip. P.S. That q tip that fit in bearing hole is good to clean inside pinion shaft as well.
  16. Since last year I think I’ve spent more time and effort for Crappie more than bass. I’m lucky enough to live in private lake about 3-400 acres where I can fish any time of day 24 hours. I only spent maybe a few hour most trip for bass. My goal is to catch just a bass or two from the lure/plastic I choose. I would feel tired quick if catching bass from same lure/plastic over and over so I change lure every other trip or until I catch bass from such lure/plastic. I found myself spending time here more than actually fishing. I try to get an idea on which lure/plastic I should use next time out. For crappie is different story, I spent evening until night or sometime all night long chasing them. I don’t fish for food either but will keep some for my wife. Same like bass, once I feel I catch plenty I’ll spice thing up with different type lure, jig, crankbait. Can’t wait until I get a hand on trout fishing.
  17. I normally tie direct, but I do have problem from time to time with line twisted when tail part hang up with anything. If that happen I’ll reel fast with rod tip high to get the head part out of water. After that I’ll let lure spin about 4-5’ down to clear twisted line. I don’t think it matter much with WP 110 with or without swivel (definitely not split ring) but WP90 you would get head down effect when add big snap swivel.
  18. How do you plan to fish Max flattyZ worm? This thing huge almost 1/2” body and 7.25” long. To be honest I only caught one catfish Texas rigging it. I think the 5” version or better yet ZinkerZ would get you more bite. The rig I use most for Elaztech ribbon worn is jika rig. I just keep jigging it on top of short grass bed. Here is my old video fishing with this rig (2nd part)
  19. Tip wrap can happen with braid especially soft and smaller braid. Most of the time right after cast, air hook set, snap lure out of weed etc. If you get tip wrap while working the lure meaning you fish it wrong, too big of a pop, lower your rod tip too fast, too much of slack between jump, etc. Changing line might help but improve your technique is better and you don’t want slack line on braid.
  20. Just like @J Franchomentioned, open the reel one more time. Check if you installed pinion yoke correctly. Now look at Two springs, a good spring should show some resistance when you try to install handle side plate. After you have done all this and still have the same problem, either sent out for warranty or get help from professional.
  21. I’m not an expert but cleaned quite a number of reel. I’m not sure how last king do pin seat under pinion gear nor do they have tight tolerance like shimano/Daiwa. There are things that can cause pin shaft to escape from the lock, if spool tension way too loose or too tight. Or two springs is not strong enough to keep the pinion yoke stay in place. Another option is you installed the pinion yoke up side down. Just my .02. Is this normal? I don’t know I tried with all my reels shimano Daiwa and Abu ALX and none of them do the way you describe. Added..... Went back to read your post again and I’m confused. Did you press thumb bar in order to get the spool free spin?
  22. Mine is not that old but I started using baitcaster for light lure 15 years ago, trying to catch stock trout with Mepps, kastmaster and split shot rig trout worm. Call me what you want but I enjoy my gears.
  23. Maybe that why they name themselves BFS because they don’t wanna be called SISSY. Lol
  24. Like I said it is my little experience, but to point out 3/8 senko doesn’t equal 1/4oz bullet weight when in water. A little of movement and those 3/8 senko ready to float, especially with the help of braid buoyancy.
  25. Becuz you cannot eliminate all of the slack line from 30-40braid with lighter lure like senko. 30yds out 10-20 Fow, there will be too big of bowl in water and you could easily loose contact with your lure. A little bit of wind, a little of rod movement would cause this. And braid doesn’t transfer vibration as good as mono/FC, with slack line. This is with my little experienced, might not be 100% true but I stand by it.
