Pliers
Any pliers that I can grab from my tool box, but lately just me, a bag of plastic a few 4/0 ewg hook and cheap multi tool with sharp knife.

Trouble removing straight shank hooks
Agreed pliers is very useful tool to have when fishing. I found it easier to remove hook by using leverage, hold at the eyelet of hook and pop it out not pulling.

The worst way to break a rod. AND rod question.
Only half and inch, now you would have a little more faster action rod instead and that might be a good thing for moving bait like chatterbait. if you send you rod in, you would get the new tatula with full cork, I still have mine brand new with tag after sending in 6’10 M/XF (solid tip), it might be a good rod but I’m so used to with old tatula and don’t even want to touch new rod.

Some Days!
No not another crucial, I still miss mine ???? Is that old tatula or newer cork one? I like the old tatula 7’1 MH/XF and use that rod for most everything now (got 3 myself) Oops don’t see above post, if you still can get the old Tatula, very good for it price range, light and comfortable.

Casting Shoulder
I only have this problem when using spinning outfit and mostly overhead cast with whipping action. As of now my whole right arm is pretty sore from only hour and a half of fishing. On casting gear, I can do all kinds of cast overhead, side arm, black hand or even cast with my left hand, I can fish for hours and hours and never have any problem.

Feathered trebles on walking baits
I like it on anything that walk slow, think bubble walker/pop x but not on Sammy and yes Don Iovino Splash it is the best.

Which jig is the most versatile?
+1 Arkie style jig head, I even like that on rock/rip rap more than football style. Look siebertoutdoors our sponsors.

2000 or 3000 reel for finesse fishing
Got to fish with Daiwa legalis 1000LT last night. Caught one bass and few crappies. I think my friend has 6lb mono line on it. It felt pretty nice, light and way smoother than my Sahara 750, it got plenty of drag to handle regular size bass. I’m glad I made the right decision.

Flathead catfish in Canyon Lake?
Cool, thank. My friend and I did a half night trip last night at north ski dock. My friend only caught 2 catfish and a bullhead but got one big one broke off at the dock using threadfin shad. I only caught a few crappies and 6 bass all on Fat Ika oxblood. This is another thing that I’m not found off Canyon Lake, it is hotter during the day and become chilly to cold at night. I had to end the trip at 2:00AM.

2000 or 3000 reel for finesse fishing
I was in the market for new spinning reel, mostly Ultralight for panfish and finesse for bass bass. I also checked all sizes and weight between comfortable and line management. The one I looked at was 1000D, 2000D and 2000S. I end up with 1000 daiwa Legalis LT 5.2 gear ratio, since the reel I really want was Exceler 2000S but have to order from Chinese and only come in high speed reel. My thought was the 1000 size have enough line capacity for 10lb braid(my main line), 1000 and 2000 got the same max drag, same weight, might even be the same frame. If that true I might get 2000 size spare spool just to use with mono. BTW i sold my hardly used 8+oz Symetre 2500 FL for 6.4oz Legalis 1000D (should be here tomorrow). Check out LT series from Daiwa or Stradic ci4 from shimano. If your budget is high Tatula LT 2000, 2500 or even 3000 would be nice. I might end up with one of tatula too.

Flathead catfish in Canyon Lake?
Thanks @OCdockskipperyeah I caught plenty of small bullhead here, seem there are plenty. If I’m gonna fish for catfish, I would go out at night more chances and less heat. Which tunnel are we talking here the main crossway or north ski lake?

Flathead catfish in Canyon Lake?
@WRB @OCdockskipper, do you both know if there are any flathead in Canyon Lake? I’ve head of some but never seen any picture to confirm. The other days while fishing for crappies, the guy told me he caught 20 and 30lbs catfish in the lake. This might be the chance for me to exercise my heavy saltwater gear.

Bearing flush
Bantam oil is good enough for me, I’m not sure if and never seen any proof that rocket oil cast a lot further than regular reel oil in(free spin on bearing or spool alone doesn’t proof nothing). Lighter oil required frequent drop of oil, bantam oil can last for months.

Spool getting low
I’m not sure your reel size, but how much line you have left after long cast? If you still have plenty then may be time to add backing, either cheap mono or braid and use that as a baseline to change new line every time you get to the connection. Please note a typically full spool line will cast further than half spool. Method to add backing to full spool, just add whatever line you want to old line, fill to spool full. Now the hard part, strip all the line out, you can walk around your yard, dock, swimming pool, or big bucket with water in it, then start from the end of backing line and fill your spool from there.

Stupid pitching question
Pitching short target 10-20’ with wrist, that what I would learn first, use weight that you comfortable with. I found shorter rod make pitching easier. When you try to pitch longer distance like 10yds or more it combination of loading the rod, wrist and under-hand cast. Watch tutorial on YouTube, I think the best I saw was Tactical basin of how to position your elbow wrist and how to load the rod for more distance.

Is it because of a full moon?
My friend and I went fishing last night for some crappie and bass. We did manage some crappie at my usual spot and a lot of tiny bass(he caught all of them and I got skunked). The weird thing was, he caught a huge carp 25-30lbs on crappie jig. Then I managed to catch another but smaller on Texas rig Missilebait baby d bomb. Both of them hooked inside lip not snag. I caught carp on plastic before but not two in the same night. Is it because of full moon or carp in my lake get more aggressive and complete with other fish for food?

Trouble with Backlash on Strong Casts?
I understand that you want your setup or your prefer gears to work the way you want it, but sometime you need to compromise. Your gear now should work fine for any of small-medium size saltwater fish, but as Tom mentioned to use 0.01 diameter line and to hard cast might not suitable and create more of cumbersome than usual. I don’t wanna say this becuz it would get back to myself. (My story was I’m using baitcaster to cast 1/32-1/16oz jig head with 1.5-2” plastic for crappies and all others told me the baitcaster not gonna work and to use spinning or spincast instead, of course I prefer my baitcaster and still using it but in the meantime I’m using spinning outfit too). I do believe in your need of plenty of line and bomb casting, spinning outfit would be the way to go.

Bank fishing dos and donts.
Seem like you got strike only on top water so far. I don’t want to add another frog but this might be easier frog for you, Boo yah toad runner. Remember frog fishing is a little bit different due to big/strut hook, you will need to set hook hard and stop the fish running under weed. Big line good drag is very important, and also good quality gears. Now if keep using topwater lure, would you learn anything, maybe not since topwater is visual strike but hey at least you catch fish. also seem like your lake/pond is full of weed another reason topwater work well for you. But you can learn how to fish thru weed with other lures to be even more productive. 1 wacky senko no weight is good for working the weed, need pack of 3-4” senko and weedlass wacky hook #1 or 1/0. link to our own Glenn bass resource video. 2 Fluke, is also perfect with weed, you can work top water, right on top of the weed or let it sink down and work thru the weed, need zoom super salt Fluke 5” and 4/0 EWG hook. 3 weightless worm, this is another type lure that work pretty good on weed type structures, might be a little bit hard to cast with bait caster, work slow on top of the weed, if you see any pocket hole, let it sink all the way then pop it up thru weed. Bass will find your lures from vibration when weed move from your lure, work it slow and soft. need zoom trick worm, roboworm rebarb hook 1/0 or regular worm hook 2/0. Im not sure if anyone say it “ work slow” special way to rig trick worm video I was gonna also add dropshot rig but this required you to find a pocket holes between weed or weed line. It is a little bit more work but very productive. Might not be for you yet but worth to look it up.

Bank trip + line review (Updated)
Thanks, so far I have used #18 gliss, #8 Sufix 832 and #8 reg PP. I like gliss the most for sensitivity second is 832 with PP the third. I feel like there is more resistance from the lure while swimming it back and lack of sensitivity when got bite. I’m not sure why? even PP got smaller diameter compare to 832 but I believe it make bigger bowl under water there for the feeling not as crisp. As of now I mainly fish from bank so it “cast and reel” thing and my preferred weight is 1/32 - 1/16oz.

Has the senko replaced the fluke?
I sometime fish with a senko fast like Fluke and fish Fluke slow like senko. They both catch fish and can use the same setup and hook 4/0. One set up and two bags of plastic, one Fluke one senko, problem solve?

Getting rid of line twist on a spinning reel from the bank?
If you fish in a pond that small enough to walk to the other side, then let the line out in water while walking to other side. There you can start reeling in with line pinched. That should take care some of twist out. I’m lucky to have 100’ long dock where I can let line out from one end and walk to the other end and start reeling.
