  1. Exactly. Use Chrome or Firefox and forget IE ever existed, Microsoft already has.
  2. Tungsten is harder to work with, but not a valuable metal so still relatively cheap. I got my tungsten wedding ring for roughly $20 seven years ago and it still looks brand new, it can't be scratched by anything short of a diamond. Jewelry stores will absolutely screw you on it if you let them though. For fishing weights, no idea how they melt it but it is so dense and strong it makes perfect sense. I'm very much in favor of going away from lead in anything that may end up in the water.
  3. Standard largemouth attack for me is 50lb braid with 12lb mono or FC leader. You could also go 10lb leader if you aren't fishing heavy weeds/cover. 10lb is actually a better match with thickness of 50lb braid for joining lines, and plenty strong for most fishing.

Shooter has been charged, looks like they were just buying time to make sure they had a case since he was cooperating. If the person isn't a flight risk it's safer to go that route than toss them in jail and be under a time limit to file charges. No conspiracy here. Sad story though, we just had one up in this area where a guy kidnapped, robbed, and murdered another guy over a road rage incident.
  5. Just got an email from Cabela's, they can't deliver. They said sorry and suggested I order Purist instead. Sorry but I'm very disappointed with them. This is a reel I'd been eyeballing, they were already sold out in the size I wanted but I got excited when they sent out the Black Friday mailer. Then they put them all back on the website for the sale and they never had them, and apparently can't get them. I have a friend who ordered one first thing in the morning and he got the same email. LAME.

Bummer, mine swims perfectly. I bring it to a weed edge and swim it into the open water and just expect it to get slammed as good as it swims. I also love the way the hooks detach and rotate away from the body. All of the fish I've brought in on it had the hooks facing 180 degrees away from the body of the mouse.
  7. I've only ever had comments directed toward me about how many rod/reels I bring. Until my fishing buddy spends a bunch of time re-rigging, then they tend to get it. If I can have three rigs to their one and not only spend more time casting but have presentations for specific targets, I'm happy with that program.

Not a "frog" but if I could only bring one, it would be a LiveTarget field mouse in white. I caught more decent bass on that this year than anything else, and I absolutely live for top water strikes.
  9. If answering the wives, gift cards! I love my wife, but don't want her picking out what I fish with. I'd just as likely end up with a bunch of Macks wedding rings than something I could actually use.
  10. The clip sounds really handy. My kayak has indentations to rest it in, but it sits sideways and gets in the way when fighting a fish. So at the first opportunity I grab it and toss it off the side the fish isn't coming in on. I tried leashes on the rods also but it was just too much of a PITA. I use one small tackle bag, the little blue one Cabelas sells. I also keep it zipped up and tie it off, just in case. It fits six 3500 size boxes, and has room on the ends for pliers, scale, etc. I usually just pack the boxes I'll actually use that day. And I don't carry any duplicate lures (other than extra plastics).
  11. Besides what I've read already, a paddle leash is something I use a lot. That way when you get a good fish on you can toss the paddle in the water and not worry about it. I fish mostly in the shallow, love top water action. When largemouth fishing one rod will have a soft body frog on it, another a t-rig senko. The third varies depending on the day. Also, sunscreen! Nothing like sunburned legs to remind you of a good day on the water. One more thing would be a net to land the nicer fish, and I use it to carry my water, anchor, etc between the water and the van as well.
  12. I'm a fan of the Old Town Vapor 10 Angler, I picked it up new for $399 and couldn't be happier with it. I fished ~15 times out of it this year. I do drool over some of the pricier SOT models though, especially the pedal driven models. I went with the Vapor 10 for a few reasons; price, storage space (limited to 10ft in my garage), weight (it's very light, easy to load on top of the minivan). It's also very roomy, I've taken my son who was 4 at the time out in it twice. Plenty of room for both of us wearing PFDs, tackle box, small cooler, rods, good times.
  13. I used to only use two lines, 50lb Spiderwire braid on the bait casters and Stren 6lb mono on the spinning reels. That's all dad ever used. No leaders either. This year I started trying a bunch of different lines and learned to tie a uni-uni and used a leader on my t-rig rod. Of all the new stuff I tried, I would say 14lb smoke colored Fireline on a spinning reel was the most impressive. Casts an incredible distance, no memory, strong. My biggest disappointment would be P-line CXX 12lb and Flouroclear 6lb. Way too much memory for me, coiled up on top of the water after only a few trips.
  14. 2016 was such a step up for me it's exciting to think about next year. I probably hadn't bass fished in 5 years, but in 2015 my family booked a lake cabin and it got the juices flowing. This year I retired a couple of old tired setups, upgraded equipment, got a kayak, and started exploring local lakes I'd never fished. I got a PB smallmouth by several pounds, and some nice largies as well. And I didn't even wet a line until late June since I was new to the kayak and didn't want to risk tipping it into frigid water. For 2017 I want to catch some spinnerbait/chatterbait fish. I don't know why but I give up on these way too easily. A PB largemouth from the kayak would be great. Explore a couple more lakes I haven't fished yet. Get more friends into kayak fishing, I already got one guy hooked and he hasn't even caught anything yet.
  15. Looks like it's a bit more $$$ than when I bought it, $39 now. It's called "Lifetime Warranty TMS J-Bar Rack.....". There are several others out there as well.
  16. Do you have a factory roof rack? If so buy the ~$25 rack mount off of Amazon. FWIW my Old Town Vapor 10 Angler has been the best buy I think I've ever landed. $399 w/ free wall mount. I've added one rod holder, I love fishing from it. I feel like I'd have to spend close to a grand more to appreciate a SOT over it.
  17. Even though they were backordered from the first minute I ordered a Pfluegar President LE from Cabela's this morning for $49.99. Hope it actually ships someday though. The last item I backordered from them I had to cancel after 5 months to make a camping trip.
  18. Crappie are super easy to catch once you find them. I know nothing about fishing for them in winter though. I would normally use a small tube jig, 1/16 or 1/32 I'm not really sure, about an inch long. Put it under a bobber (I like the ones that lay on their side and stand up with a bite) and reel in one after another. This is back when I had a bass boat and kept a crappie setup on board just in case I ran into a bunch of them. I never really target them anymore, but have also caught them on smaller inline spinners and road runners when fishing to catch anything that swims. Mepps makes an inline with a mirabeau tail and black blade that seems to be a crappie slayer.
  19. Nice, just snagged one of those Vortex Rods.
  20. This might be the most prepared I've been for winter in history. Motorhome is tarped and winterized(normally I remember to do that about 9:00pm the first night it dips into the 20's. Outside hoses are rolled up and put away. Lawn is in good shape. Stocked up on firewood (ran out last year after a 7 day power outage). Brand new Michelin X-Ice tires on wife's car, some used junkyard tires for my DD to replace what might as well have been racing slicks. I did think about going fishing today, maybe next week if the weather holds out. We just set a record for October rain levels. I saw blue sky today and thought I was imagining things.
  21. I love cheap gear. My frog setup is a ten year old or more Shimano Callisto that has got to be on its last leg, and a MH Shakespeare Agility rod I got for ~$30. I use it all the time. I did buy myself two Abu Silver Max baitcaster combos on clearance at Cabelas this year to replace my really old cheapo stuff. I feel like a millionaire out there now. Even though I log on here and realize it's still cheapo stuff.
  22. I got my PB smallmouth this year on a 4", first time ever using one. This was using 6lb line on spinning tackle. I tried casting it on my heavier baitcaster stuff and the 5" just works too much better to downsize. That said, I've also done well on torn up 5"ers I bit the end off of. They're still fatter and heavier than a 4" version so they cast decent enough. My best largemouth of the year was on one actually, I remember thinking I was almost done I'd had a pretty crappy day only catching two dinks so didn't want to waste a new Senko when I could get a few more casts out of this one....two casts later caught the one in my avatar with that bit off Senko on my last cast of the day.
  23. I got a Terminator also, and a Panther Martin "WeedRunner" that is very similar. Back in the slop where I fish out of the kayak I think those (the weedless inlines) could really produce in the open spots where I'd normally bring a frog across or drop in a Senko.
  24. I stumbled across these things while looking for bigger inline spinners and was intrigued enough to order a couple, one in 3/8 and one in 1/4.
  25. I see a few potential issues. That snap swivel looks gigantic and the line too heavy, especially for a 1/16 Rooster Tail. Also, looks like you did some sort of double bend in the thing. I've done a small 45 degree bend toward the tip, not sure how that double bend might affect the action though? I wouldn't even bother if using a swivel out front, but personally I don't think you'll run into an issue with line twist casting inlines in a narrow river. I'd downsize the line, tie direct and give it another go. Rooster Tails/Panther Martins/Blue Fox Vibrax etc should hammer river smallies. Try a couple of each in a few different colors and sizes, I like 1/4oz Panther Martins and Vibrax for their compact size and casting distance.
