Technique Overload
Me to a tee the past couple years. ? While I buy and buy and load up on tackle, rods, and reels, and read, and watch videos, and say I’m going to try this technique and that I end up trying one new technique it ends up working out and I ride that wave most of the season. Last year it was the bladed jig. I don’t like getting outside my comfort zone in more than just fishing, so once I do venture outside of it (bladed jig again) and try something new I’ll stick with it and the long process of trying something new starts all over again. Structure fishing is another one of my handicaps as you know. I spend all winter reading, watching, and learning. Ice out comes I go offshore, skunk, and run right back to the bank. It’s quite maddening! But once I finally figure something out offshore I’ll stick with it to the point I’ll drive myself nuts again. Hey, Rome wasn’t built in a day. That’s what I tell myself to help with my insanity. ?

Looking at the link it says 8. I’ve gotten into the KVD speed bags. They’re really nice and come in two sizes that hold 20 or 40 bags of soft plastics. https://www.amazon.com/Plano-PLAB11700-Worm-Speedbag-Holds/dp/B07SFBSVK4

Looks like the consensus is the Pad Crasher and it usually is when these threads come up. Another vote for the Pad Crasher!

A-Jay's 3rd Annual Ice Out / Open Water Countdown Thread ~
There were 4 that went in over by Detroit yesterday, one didn’t make it. There’s one on our lake as we speak, and I saw a side by side yesterday on the lake across the road from ours. A bit too risky for me. Walking on it, no problem but, a motorized vehicle, nope!

Our temps are pretty close to yours. With no rain in the forecast and no real super high temps, March 6 doesn’t seem obtainable. If the predicted temps for the following week hold true, I can see the ice on our lake at least being gone. Either way, we’re getting closer each day.

Chains on icy boat ramp
I imitated him one time and developed the nickname ’Scuba J’ that night. It has stuck for almost 20 years!

Watching him after the win was pretty cool too! I’m a new fan of his.

He reminds me of Steve Irwin. The dude is a bull in a China shop, just like Irwin was. I haven’t been able to watch much, but I did get a kick out of him seeing all the beds and getting excited over the huge bass that turned out to be a turtle. Oh and in the midst of all that excitement were any of you watching and waiting for him to kick a rod overboard? I don’t know much about him or have seen much of him, but he does seem to be beyond his years. He was fun to watch the little bit I did.

One lure only.
Don’t worry, spring is almost here. However, that’ll bring the “how much does this bass way” threads. ?

Winter 2020-2021
Yak Trax are standard issue here at my company. The construction sites I’ve been to this week have been mud pits towards the end of the day. Mud Season is not pleasant that’s for sure. Not as bad anymore since we moved to the lake and a paved driveway.

Maybe it’s just the picture, but Hackney looks like he’s not very tall.

Winter 2020-2021
Our snow pack is down to about 8-10”, which is great. The only problem now is it starts to melt during the day then refreezes at night. What’s wrong with that you say? At work we walk through this stuff all day long and the refreezing creates a crust on top strong enough to hold your foot up until you put weight on it, then it gives way like a trap door. This makes walking extremely difficult and extremely slow! We went from 2 feet of fluffy powder snow to walk through and now with have 8 inches of crusty crap that’s just as bad! Hopefully it’s all gone by the end of the weekend.

Favorite budget bourbon and rye...
I figured being in Tennessee you would have a healthy stock of backwoods moonshine!

Does aging it at sea do anything for it? Does the bottle give you a history of it’s travels? Pretty cool either way!

LIving in the boonies
I grew up in small town USA with a population of 700, our school was made up of three towns. I still live in one of them. I like living in the country, but I’m right there with you. The nice houses in the country are few and far between. I try not to judge people, because I’ve been poor through my 20’s, but it’s really not that hard to take care of things and keep them presentable. We moved to a lake. We’re fortunate that it’s not like most around here where you can reach out your window and shake your neighbors hand, but we don’t have sprawling lots either. It took my wife a bit to get used to having people so close and not having all the privacy we did at our old house. Once in a while I would take her down our old road in the country to remind her how our neighbors were....that seemed to speed up her process a bit. ?

Saturday and Sunday are looking toasty (45 & 50*) with a nice breeze thrown in there. The overnight lows are still looking well below freezing which is a bummer, but still heading in the right direction. The extended forecast for what it’s worth shows some upper 50 to low 60* days and lows in the upper 30’s, but that’s two weeks out. Probably not going to make my enthusiastic goal (dam you February) but quite possibly mid March is a possibility.

I did not know this, very good to know. One question though, who do we blame for our BR Flea Market purchases then? ?

I was able to take a lunch and watch this for a bit. Pretty slow going, makes me feel better about my fishing though. ? 6poundbass had a snow day Monday and I put him on this. After watching for an hour he texted me and said it was boring. That’s what I was hoping for. He watches YouTube fishing shows, and TV fishing shows with me that are all edited and the comment was made last year about us not catching them like he sees on YouTube and TV. He didn’t fully grasp the editing thing, so Monday he saw first hand the magic of editing and real life. After watching them struggle Monday, hopefully he doesn’t think his dad is good enough to become a pro. ?

That was pretty cool! It would be interesting to see where is goes and if it makes it all the way to us, how long it would take to get across the lake.

Winter 2020-2021
It was absolutely awesome seeing zero clouds, seeing the snow melting, seeing, and most importantly feeling the sun! We have quite a ways to go before open water, but we’re heading in the right direction.
