  1. 10 inch old monster or power worm. 3/8 to 1/2 ounce usually. faster weight gets reaction strikes and usually fishing to30 feet.
  2. d shads are heavy. ive never liked weighted hooks but have used the core tackle hover jig this year with some wild results. you can google it but it basically makes a flat bait like that dart on the retrieve and hover and glide on the fall.
  3. i need to try an alx they look like nice rods for a solid price.

im a worm addict. i catch more on worms every year than anything else. especially in summer.finesse worms yamamoto cut tail reins bubbling shaker strile king fat baby finesse. straight tail , zoom trick worm ,magnum trick worm grande bass rattlesnake , airtail wiggler, xzone deception worm. swimming worm strike king rage tail, zoom ultravibe speed worm. ribbon tails, power worm 7 and 10 inch culprit 7.5 and 10 inch zoom old monster. alsostrike king bull worm on a magnum shakey head. im sure there are more but those are the ones that come to mind quickly. our water is deep and clear with lots of weeds so texas rigged worms get alot of use.
  5. im using a loomis glx 75 heavy. cant remember the model number. i got it for 40 percent off. in your price range id look at a braillist, expride 72 heavy and an imx pro. you may find something you like better but id at least consider those 3
  6. i fish the same waters you do. i use a medium spinning rod 15 pound braid 10 pound leader. owner cps light hook with the point out and then slightly buried back in the top. if you feel like your missing fish consider nose hooking with a drop shot or wacky style hook.
  7. i own that rod . i would not use it for jerkbaits. not saying it couldnt do it but it wouldnt be my choice. its a great rod for for dropshot wacky rig etc.
  8. thats just a ned with a different plastic. your in the club.
  9. you could certainly try some mono the stretch may help with breakoffs. but i still believe that a tightline sweeping hook set will help with not getting the fish hooked well. i like to push the hook through the plastic then pull it back into the worm. that creates a little channel for the hook.
  10. go to 10 pound. use either a palomar or sandiego jam . ive had lots of problems with a clinch knot and fluoro.also youd be surprised with a light wire hook if you get the line tight and sweep and reel youll hook and land a very high percentage of fish.
  11. totally different situations for me. a texas rig or jig is usually my choice for isolated targets , a grass edge , grass clumps a rock pile in deeper water.. a brush pile etc.the c rig is more of i pull up on a point that has scattered rock gently slopes to 20 feet the falls off sharp to deep water. i want to be able to cover the point fairly quickly but still with a bottom bait. i can work my way around that point fan casting a heavy carolina rig bouncing around the rocks pretty quickly and still feel like a presented a bait that a fish would eat.
  12. oh man does this thread get the memories flowing. i loved bassmaster because i mean these guys were fishing for a living! but i loved fishing facts and in fisherman because they talked abot all kinds of fish. and i just wanted my pole bent. bass big bluegill , crappie , catfish whatever. i was a fishing nerd as a kid at 12 and still am today at 53. nothing better for me on a friday night in the winter than picking up a copy of in fisherman or fishing facts and hanging out playing monopoly and talking fishing with my uncle and his neighbor.
  13. idk there must be an issue with how your tying it.i use the alberto or the fg and run braid to leader on all my spinning setups . i catch hundreds of smallmouth every year and never have have a breaking issue.
  14. yes that is another way i like to rig the bull flat. 1/8 is ,y favorite but it can take a long time to sink in deeper water.
  15. outcast tackle weedless ned.
  16. zoom . because they are the bomb.
  17. yeah you got no worries then.
  18. Tom is right about experimenting. in your example i may switch baits if i fwwl like i can get a bigger bite on another bait. but otherwise i just keep hammering them. I spend enough days getting my tail kicked. when its my turn i take advantage!
  19. i use 10 to 15 pound bekley x0 braid. florescent yellow. you can use flouro or mono leader. its up to you. the leader is so i can break off if needed. usually 8 or 10 pound.the low stretch of braid helps your rod fish a little stiffer for better hook sets, i like a long leader about 15 feet so i can break off a couple times and not have to retie a leader. our water is pretty clear, 3 to 12 feet of visibility depending on season.
  20. i fish them on a free rig in summer. i give it big hops so the sinker seperates alot. the glide is the key to bait.i was fishing it on a hover strolling head. 3/64 ounce very light.the weight is down the hook of the shaft so the bait glides and darts. the head is made by core tackle.
  21. i take mine off even in the bed of my truck. one screw.
  22. worth a shot. the bull flat looks less rounded which gives it the gliding action but it looks close.
  23. i was cleaning house with the deps bull flat yesterday. went to order more knowing the price was ridiculous. To add insult to injury now you cant even find them in the colors i want.
  24. can you tell me a little about the dream. i was thinking of buying one for topwaters , spooks, sexy dog vixen etc. looking for somethin with a fairly soft tip tp protect trebles but enough backbone to handle fish in moderate cover.
