Winter Bass Fishing Tips
I thought I was toughing it out by fishing in the 30's. Don't know how you could keep your guides clear of ice.

Going to do some research....:)
Was this Nanofil or Fireline Ultra 8? I don't think Nanofil has changed since it was introduced.

Just referencing what the weather could start doing. Want you to prove the doctors wrong and stick around for a while.

Missing the warmer fishing months...
Truthfully, having gone fishing nearly daily since last winter I kinda dread the inevitability of ice at some point. Fishing's a habit and habits are hard to change. I'm on borrowed time and still fishing (and catching) at this point. If we lock up I guess I'll just work more hours (painting) and just pretend I'm fishing. I've been known to practice cast with snow on the ground.

Locked in my 12 months of bass today. 33* and wind made for a tough hour and a half but caught two 4lbr's shown here and a 2.5.

Johnny Morris Platinum Baitcasting reel vs. Shimano SLX?
This. Cause when I'm bored I like to flick the knobs and watch 'em spin.

Daiwa Freams LT
That almost invisible clear o-ring gave me fits. Had to force it off and get it just right to go back on. Must be my 65 yr. old eyes and fingers.

Pricing puts them right with the USDM Procyon. The closest I've come to it are the Fuego LT's. Gotta think it's a really smooth reel. Hope it doesn't have the line lay problems my 2500 did. It's a real pain to adjust the shaft washers. Much more so than Shimano. Other than that my Fuegos are great so these should be even better. One side note. The reel features Mag Seal so you're not supposed to open it up on your own.

I love to catch white bass but my only real opportunity is in the spring during their spawning run in our local river. They hit and fight so hard for their size.

Sufix 832 or P-Line TCB 8 for Hi-Vis?
All braid fades regardless the claims. Some just faster than others.

My son's just a little older than that. It gives one pause. God bless, Tom.

FISHERMEN CAN BE LIKE LITTLE KIDS...
I've gotten EMS shipments from Japan in under 4 days before. I think they're warming up the jet when I place the order.

Newest Stradic
FJ's are from that group of older Shimanos that had friction ring issues. I had a cheap Solstace that did the same thing.

I'm challenged with jerkbaits the same as you are with blades. Gotta think they'd be good in the ponds I fish. Clear water that's clean enough for trebles but my results have always been less than impressive. Maybe not staying with it enough.

Winter's here, and I'm stuck on the bank.
All my fish since we've gotten cold have come on a very slowly fished ned rig on light spinning tackle and 4lb. braid. I find that in the ponds I fish casting distance is important. Most of my bites seem to come a good ways out. Some exceptions but mostly this. I do remember one day last winter after a few 50* days and some wind that the fish got on a very aggressive shallow bite but one can't count on it.

What Do You Prefer In Rod Length?
Welcome. We joke about new guys digging up old threads but it shows you're doing a lot of research. There's stuff buried in here that I never see. Might be a nugget that I missed. Thanks.

Some Fall Transition Bass Fishing: Making Lemonade When the Water Goes Sour
One of the HOA lakes I fish is a "wildlife preservation area" pond. It's basically a marsh with max depth maybe 5-6'. I've caught a lot of decent (2-3lb.) during warmer months using slop tactics. Tried it a couple of weeks ago with ned rig since there's enough open water to do so. Still had to use heavier spinning than I really like to because of big chara mats around the edges. Don't know what the water temp was but suffice to say it was cold. Was able to pull several in a short time. Yours should bite too. Good luck.

- Should I go fishing this week?
We've been in the same scenario as the guys west of me. It was single digits Tues. and Wed. morning. Smaller ponds skimmed over. Yesterday and today got to the low/mid 40's and I've caught a bunch of fish. Went at it slow with ned rig and the fish are a little sluggish but it's still fishin'.- Thinking About Giving Up
Would like to welcome you to the forums first. What jumped out at me in your post was when you mentioned that you were "armed to the teeth". I believe that's your problem. Too much too soon. Without getting bogged down in technical things go back to basics like when you were 10 (except with lures instead of live worms.) You'll get plenty of suggestions as this thread progresses. Get on just one or two basic techniques and think like you did years ago. There's lots of good info here. Best of luck.- Other Species Latest Catch Pics Thread
I paint in people's homes with HOA lakes nearby. Have caught my share of bass when running to get a sandwich. - Weedless bass lures aren't
