Use a proper fitting straight blade screwdriver (fits tight and is as wide as the screw slot). I bought one with a long handle from Sears. Most of the destroyed screw slots are done with an improper sized screw driver.

Any of the uncoated or unfused superlines are zero memory. A zero or true low memory single filament nylon/fluorocarbon) line does not exist. Some single filament lines have less memory (usually the blended co-polymers) than others. McCoy and XL are some of the lowest memory single filament lines. The smallest diameters in any brand and model of single filament line has the least memory (6# vs 10#).

fishermantony, no there is no weight in the tail, it is just the way the light shines on the last segment. I do add weight if needed but put it in the head of the worm. I have fished the weedless wacky rig to depths of 30' so far. I don't do the jig thing, I'm in no hurry for it to get to the bottom and only add weight to overcome wind or current to lessen the bow in the line. With many thousands of bass caught that way, it is the fall that attracts the bass-the faster the fall the less fish caught. Someone else asked the same a while back.

If you just want fresh line, reverse the line on the reel. The line you don't use and just takes up space is still good.

You are correct about the 45# Power Drive, I missed that on the list. Personally, I wouldn't have a power drive type in any brand since I don't troll as a presentation and I just bass fish. I prefer the more precise control of cable steer and want to spend my time fishing instead of fooling with a hand controlled motor. I've used all the types.

With your budget, you have eliminated the Power Drive and have put yourself into the 5 speed 45# thrust motor in the Minnkota or the equivelent Motor Guide in 46# thrust of the foot control models. The 42"-45" shaft models should work well. As to which brand, you will have detractors for each, pick the one that suits you best.

The unit has the highest resolution screen in the industry. It comes with a dual frequency transducer 83/200 khz. It can be used as a track plotter IF you buy a GPS antenna that works with it (see specs in the manual or download the manual from the Humminbird web site). The "c" in the model name means COLOR screen. It does not have and will not use any mapping software. The mount is a uni-mount with no knobs or bracket. It is basically a plug-in with the connecting cables contained in the base that swivels and tilts. It will display and store GPS tracks (that is what a plotter is), and saved waypoints. It will store routes that the user creates using multiple saved waypoints.

K_mac, the hook is inserted thru the 1/4" heat shrink tubing and about 1/2 way into the worm before bringing it out from under the tubing to insert the point. It holds the hook eye in when fishing thru heavy weeds, pads, docks, and timber. I fish this stuff a lot and rarely get hung up unless a fish is attached---

I use them based on intuition and they produce. Sometimes I use the ones without the clacker, they produce also. It seems to make no difference either way. The clacker models are easier to track in the dark, especially the plastic tri-blade.

The smallest I use is the 6# mono equivelent diameter. I don't use Power Pro and have no digging in problem. RandySBreth, no reel mfg recommends any size line, they only state the capacity of a certain size line. The reel will hold more of a smaller diameter and less of a larger diameter .

That is my most productive presentation everywhere and just about anytime.

I'm doing pretty well. I have 201 more bass than I did last year on this date and a few more larger ones.

Crestliner, lowering the prop pitch to a "heavy duty" prop will decrease your speed "normally" and increase the engine rpm's as compared to the suggested prop for the craft and engine. You are correct about the tachometer if you start dropping the prop pitch. A hydofoil, when the boat is on plane, is at the surface and will not have any underwater drag. It may reduce speed 1 or 2 mph due to surface drag. I ran an Attwood hydrofoil for several years on a late 80's model V-6 OMC and with that design, there was no reduction in speed and I didn't use a jack plate (my motor was installed at the optimum height for best performace). I used it to get on plane quickly in the shallow water of the Potomac River.

I'm not familiar with marine goop so I don't have a direct opinion on it. If it is flexible, it cannot produce accurate depth readings or may not allow small details to be displayed. The hull has to vibrate at the same frequency as the transducer and not have air between the transducer and hull, have air in the hull material, or have a substance attaching it to the hull that is flexible. Some sit-in owners may have a proper operating system to suggest. The most successful Sonar installations I have seen or heard of are done on the sit-on-top models that have open holes thru them that are used for the transducer mounting, allowing for direct water contact.

bilgerat, from what I have read, the braid if used in a smaller diameter but higher strength than mono will allow for deeper depths of crankbaits due to the lesser resistance of the smaller diameter. On some of the saltwater sites, the attributes of braid for trolling is touted.

More than likely when a fish throws a crankbait it is because the hook/s did not penetrate beyond the barb. The stretch of mono and the give of fiberglass will increase that lack of hook penetration. A superline with a medium set drag will increase the landing percentage no matter what rod type is used.

Three possibilites, the hull of the boat has a lot of air in the contruction and/or you used a flexible adhesive that absorbs the transducer vibrations instead of the proper adhesive (slow cure epoxy). The third possibility is your kayak, what type do you have and exactly where did you mount the transducer and did the location have direct contact with the water?

The software is the lake edition. Hotmaps Premium East The Potomac is shown the same and probably the other tidal rivers ( haven't looked )
