  1. in 2002 I caught one in Carlisle MA close in a pond behind a very prominent private school that was 24"long and close to 20" girth weighted 9.8 last year in raymond nh I pulled one out of the lamprey river that was over 6lbs my avatar pic is her she was 22" long and 17" girth. so yeah there are huge bass up here for sure. Auburn nh tower hill pond if you have a way in its like a .8 mile hike in but my buddy caught a few there over 6 I'm sure Winnie has some monsters swimming in there
  2. use the electronics see the depth the sitting in and slow roll jigs and tight wobble crank baits by there head on repeat. I know the Merrimack is open right now but with all the recent snow and ice melt current is ripping just be careful the water is still frigid and hypothermia will happen quick. also Hooksett nh the water is a bit warmer past the dam near the power plant. look for places like that on rivers the water can be a few degrees warmer from the plants using it and fish can be much more active
  3. 7'2 phenix M1 medium shimano stradic ci4 2500 Kut tail Yamamoto worm 1/4oz jig and trailer square bill shallow crankbait
  4. arm extended pics suck. I lay all mine on the lying tamer. before pics. like in my avatar. you can't mess up length or girth on them. keep fishermen honest is tough lol
  5. under 100.00 tough to do but I agree the shimano reels like the spirex and Sahara will do ya just fine
  6. I seen it already a few time listed but I own 2 of them get yourself a diawa tatula and not the cheap one either get the real deal tatula it cost 149.99 @tacklewarehouse.com I have the 7'4 frog rod I use it for flipping and pitching I also have the 7'2 mh for senkos and Texas rigs
  7. I love the con A and con C 22lb drag, great gear ratios for righty slick styling and 13 also offers trick shop options to deck the reel out. I have 2 shimano stradics I love them never bought a baitcaster from them. I bet they are smooth as well and you can't go wrong with the company as a whole I'm not a quantum man at all I have used there tour pt baitcaster and they were kinda big for a low profile IMHO. I had an energy spinning reel the anti-reverse blew out in under 6months. as for abu-garcia I'm take em or leave em. the revo winch would be one of my choices for a deep crankbait due to the low gear ratio. but other reels I'm more partial to also offer 5:4:1
  8. lol the rod was a 7'4 tatula and the bait was a weightless tiki bamboo stick
  9. the 683 series I seen on phenix's website is a 6'8 medium rod and your going to be using it for some pretty light techniques? maybe I'm reading something wrong but you may be over killing it a bit? I have 2 M1's 1 for drop shots/neko rigs and 1 for shakey head/finesse paddle tail swimbaits and I am a huge fan of the phenix brand. I think the jerkbait and top water will be perfect on the 683rod, but as for the neko rig you might want a 7'2 spinning rod in a medium/ medium light action. that's just my personal preference only
  10. as long as your comfortable you can use whatever you like. for the longest time when I was young (real young) I used a 5'10 ugly stick for everything and I mean everything. I caught plenty of fish. what I'm getting at is, yes, there are plenty of technique specific rods out there but if your fishing conditions(ie: your body composition, where you fish or what you fish out of)don't allow for the type of rod you feel or think you need fish with what works for you. a 6'6 heavy rod with 65lb braid will set a mean hook and as long as your stronger then the fish you can turn it.
  11. all nice fish boys. my personal best Larry is 9.8 caught in Bateman pond Carlisle mass. bass was caught is 2002 I have to find the pic or it didn't happen. she was over 24" and a chunk caught on a finesse jig in early April. here is my best Larry from 2016 I have here on my homemade scale. about 6.12 lbs caught on a bamboo stick. lamprey river NH
  12. Thats a pig, I would say more like 8lbs but pics are tough to judge. Either way that's a great fish for all fifty states.
  13. I guess the first question is what are you driving? even some small boats have a hard time fitting in the back of an suv and or are too wide for a roof. with that said a float tube isn't a bad idea unless your on the food chain. I'm thinking a fishing kayak would be best Google them to get an idea of what you like. I have seen some with electronics mounted to them and decent storage if you plan you day correctly
  14. man I have about 2+months before ice is out and I can get after it. but looking at that those fish makes me itch to get out there
  15. thanks guys I have been finding out the hard way not having a boat is tough to even get into a small local draw club. I will continue saving the Benny's and working the wife to let me spend them on a used rig. I wish I had some friends who seriously fish like I do so I can measure my success. well if anyone is from the state of new Hampshire and wants to meet up send me message.
  16. I just wanted to add I checked the club finder spot and have contacted both that are listed for my state and haven't heard back or was denied over not having a boat. again thanks for the help
  17. I have been having a hard time finding a club for 2017 in new hampshire. my struggle starts with the fact the only boat I own is a decked out 10' tracker jon boat. so being a co-angler makes things tough. I was wondering if there was anyone out there that may know of or is interested in co-angler. I appreciate any and all feed back
  18. I agree Wachusett res is one of the best smallie holes but with that also comes heavy pressure. just food for thought.
  19. thanks everyone.
  20. settled stradic it is I was leaning that way anyways since I have experience with the stradic line and the drag is far superior in terms of pounds. the revo has 11lbs the stradic is rated at 20lb on their respective company websites
  21. what's up everyone, my name is ken and I wanted to introduce myself a bit. I love fishing and have been doing it for well over a decad. I have fished in clubs and 1 real tournment. I looknow forward to learning and hopefully adding some insight
  22. thanks Dan, I was thinking that one too but the ratio on the rocket is appealing for sure. plus I have always loved the drag on shimano
  23. the new ci4 2500 series. I looked at it but the ratio for me is a bit slower then I like. I want something with a faster line pick up. 5.0.1 compared to 6.2.1 or even that 7.0.1 is a world of difference I agree with that one. the reel this new one else is replacing is a stradic mg 2500 from 2003 and it is as smooth as the day I opened it
  24. I'm having a difficult time on deciding on a new dropshot reel. I have it narrowed down to two reels. the reel is going on a 7'2 light action phenix M1 gives you an idea of the combo. the reels are: abu gacia revo rocket 20 shimano stradic thanks for the input and I appreciate all the input
