  1. I do use a log, I have one in the computer, and a written one. Before a trip, I will search them to look for any similar trips or conditions. I usually dont take them with me, but I think I will start. Ian
  2. That is the problem, I can't use it effectively. I have myself a mentor (basser89) but I have only fished with him once, we usually talk for hours though. Thanks, Ian
  3. I concentrated on each one for about a month and a half, just to get my feet wet, so to speak. Now instead of concentrating on a technique for a month and a half, I concentrate on it for a week. Thanks for the input, Ian
  4. ;D.....I experiment with soft plastics in a fish tank to see what little details in certain plastics make them work. I also tried using only a certain lure, technique for one day. When I fish with my bud, we call tham challenges. We'll take either all jigs, all spinnerbaits, etc. We sometimes get even more specific like both using the same exact lure, so that the competition is in the presentation. Thanks for the suggestions! Ian
  5. Sorry, I forgot to mention that in my post. I did try that and am still working on that. I started in September of last year. I concentrated on a certain technique or lure for about a month and a half. Then I broke down each period and fished different situations. I have covered crankbaits, spinnerbaits, dropshot, creatures, jigs, wacky style, carolina rig, and some other finesse presentations.
  6. I've been seriously fishing for bass about 3 years.
  7. I've been doing a lot of reading and watching on bass fishing and everything related, such as baitfish, lake types, cover types, etc. I know a lot about bass fishing, but i'm having trouble putting this knowledge to use when i'm fishing. I know you guys will tell me to fish more, and that I need more time on the water. I agree, it will help, but it hasn't for the entire year. I just keep fishing and fishing, but I dont think i'm getting any better. I have trouble remembering everything when i'm on the water. If you can think of anything that may help me, I would like to hear it! Thanks! Ian
  8. Thats neat! ;D
  9. x2 I carried my senkos all year, but caught only a hand full on them. Last year they were a hot bait like said before, but I think they became used to seeing them all the time. I think bass have a memory and can distinguish fake from real after they have been caught a few times. It's like sticking a penny in a light socket when we were 5.....you did it once out of curiosity, then probably didn't do it again. I beleive it's the same with bass.
  10. They're still in rut here. Just the other day I witnessed a doe running, with a buck not too far behind her. He had his nose to the ground. Ian
  11. I have bought myself a few tailspinners recently after doing some reading on them. I have never used them before. I have read about the technique "poppin", where you make a cast, count down to the desired depth, and raise your rod tip up, and let it down, then repeat, speed depending on water temp and what the fish want. What are some of your best ways to present these lures? Thanks! Ian
  12. Do potato gun wars and airsoft wars compare to you old guys' stick ball? They're not played inside...most of the time.
  13. x2 :-?
  14. What's video games........ :-/......... I fish
  15. Live in Port Royal. 1 hour north of Harrisburg. I fish Long Pine, Pinchot, Marburg, Howard, Cowans Gap, Meadowgrounds, Walker, Little Buffalo, Juniata River, and the Tuscaroara creek.
  16. Sweet! Thats a neat idea to have all that tackle storage! Now you have to name it with a big sticker on the side of the van!
  17. I have fished Long Pine. Guys, that sounds like a good idea to fish Cowans Gap and the "other place". I am making plans to hit Cowans Gap at least 3 times this spring. Ian
  18. Thanks for the suggestions! Bird Dog, I did ask the recruiter about job availability, he said that the mechanics jobs are guaranteed because there are so many of them, he said I would probably be placed in Johnstown. But I understand what you're saying. I know that each recruiter is trying to tell me that their branch is better than this one and that one and all that. This is a hard decision, but I want to do it because with the economic situation, lol, I know I can't afford college. I want a college education because I know that as the years go on, paying bills and all that will become harder and harder to do. I want to be able to afford college so I can get a decent job. Ian
  19. Thanks for the opinions! Ian
  20. Well, i'm in my senior year in highschool and i've been talking to guys from the marines and the army. I talked to the marines guys first, and I liked what they told me, I wanted to enlist in the reserves when I graduate. I talked to the marine guys again this morning and I again liked what we discussed. But, then at lunch the army guy was talking to me, and he was saying how the army reserves can get me more money for college and can get me into just about any job in the army, like aircraft mechanic, logistics, diesel mechanic, etc. Basically that they have better benefits. I know there are some guys currently enlisted, reserve and active, what do you guys think? What did you enlist in and what are your opinions on which is the better branch of military based on the benefits? Thanks, Ian
  21. That's alright big bro ;D. I have fished the lake more times than I can count. I have also had some very successful days there. I've fished it for years now and have got a thorough understanding of the lake. Shoot me a pm Mark, and we'll exchange some knowledge! Ian
  22. I kinda fished this one maybe......ummmmmm....yep...I sure did! I think I can help you out maybe, shoot me a pm! I caught this little girl there this summer.
  23. When people have already been through the area and fished the laydowns and caught fish, do the fish become uncertain about hitting another jig? I wasn't sure if maybe they moved to a different part of the tree, like the bigger branches and thicker stuff when they feel pressured, and that was why I wasn't catching any. I hope I dont make this thread too much more confusing than I already did. Thanks for the good info! Ian
