  1. If you want a great bass rod for many different uses I would recommend the 843c in the e6x or IMX-Pro depending on what kind of money you want to spend. That rod has the famous G Loomis MBR taper which is great for tons of different things.
  2. I like in between at 5/16oz the most. But I also throw 1/4 and 3/8 at times
  3. Someone has to be older than me! I mostly use braid these days, but I still use copoly/mono on occasion. I like 6 and 8lb on spinning and 15 and 17lb on my casting rigs when I use it.
  4. Cool. I’ve been using it in 15 and 17 on casting reels for jig and Texas rigs, and it’s been excellent.
  5. The best copolymer/mono I've ever used has been McCoy clear and green. How have you found that line for your uses? You stated that you have been using it. It's very limp and easy to use, great knot strength and abrasion resistance. I use both trilene XL and McCoy lines. I have never noticed any difference in XL being worse than it used to be, I've been using it since the 70's.
  6. I make leaders when I’m fishing around pike with 30 and 40 lb fluorocarbon with a 3-4 turn clinch knot. Never had one slip in many years of tying them.
  7. That medium Tatula rod is too heavy for creek fishing.
  8. I have the Tatula 6'6" and 6'8" that are the same rating, M fast 1/8-3/4. They both do great with an 1/8 jig and trailer. I haven't gone bellow 1/8oz with them. I'd say the sweet spot on them is 3/16-3/8oz. I have them both set up with shallow spool Tatula LT 3000 reels, and they are amazingly light, balanced , and sensitive setups.
  9. Braid to leader 90% of the time, the rest either straight braid or copoly.
  10. The rod you are looking for is the 6'6" ML St Croix LTW LWS66MLF rod. It's an absolutely fantastic rod for tons of things. It's super sensitive and comfortable. The taper is somewhere between an XF and F. I bought it because like you I wanted a 6'6" rod for bass fishing primarily. It's been an excellent creek rod too. I pair it with a Daiwa Tatula 2000LT and it's beautifully matched up.
  11. I started buying Boss jig heads and Dirty Jigs skirts at TW in bulk when they have sales. The recent 15% off sale, the jigs total with the head/skirt end up costing $2.50 a piece. The jig heads come with Mustad ultra point hooks, and Dirty Jigs skirts are excellent. When the sale isn't on it's about $2.80 per completed jig.
  12. I use 3 power G Loomis rods for all my swim jigs. 10-17lb line 1/4-3/4oz ratings and they work fantastic. I throw 1/4, 5/16, and 3/8oz jigs on 30lb braid to 15lb leader, and it's a really nicely balanced/sensitive set for open water to medium cover.
  13. Did you notice he asked about swim jigs, not swim baits.
  14. It would make a good frog rod. It's pretty balanced (a touch tip heavy) for a mag heavy rod. It's not great for walking a frog all day because it's a little heavy, BUT it's a good frog rod, great jig rod, great whopper plopper rod, great for 1-1.5oz glide baits, great chatter bait rod. I wouldn't call it a broomstick, I think it has a nice tip section for casting 3/8oz and up.
  15. I'm asking about the 7' heavy H3.
  16. Still not helping me. Don't bother
  17. You ever throw 1-1.5oz glide baits or jigs with yours?
  18. Elucidate On your yikes.
  19. I have Tatula's at just around 7oz and a few Curado K that are around the same. I like my rods to be with the tip floating (I guess that's what you mean by heavier towards the reel) My LMH Kistler has the perfect balance for me, but I'm looking for a heavier 7' rod now.
  20. Cool, Thanks. How do you find the balance and tip section?
  21. Anyone use a Kistler Helium 3 Heavy, I'm looking at the 7' heavy while it's on sale. A few reviews on the Kistler site mention it seems lighter than expected for a heavy action rod. I want to use it jigs, T rigs, and up to 1 1/2oz glide baits which is at the top of the lure rating. Any hands on experience is appreciated.
  22. You may not trust it but it's rock solid. As many can attest, the TWS doesn't fail any more than a standard line guide does, which is not very frequently. It's a proven system. I have Curado K, Lew's Pro G, and a bunch of Tatulas, and all are excellent reels. All of them feel different from each other, but feel great.
  23. MBR tapers are my favorite of all. That rod is great for all baits within its rating. I think the 2 power Loomis MBR rods are great for finesse jigs in open water. Here's a great review of it with lots of info : http://www.tackletour.com/review_gloomis_2017mbr842cglx.html
