  1. I have three E6x rods that are great. I have zero issues with them. In fact I think the gen 2 E6x rods are excellent.
  2. It may be your hook set and not the hook/jig head. All you have to do is lift up and reel medium speed and your hook up/keeping fish hooked ratio will go up. I only use heads with a size one hook and very rarely lose fish. My favorite rod is a light action Kuying rod with a moderate fast tip that keeps the fish pinned. Your rod seems like a good style for the presentation. Definitely do NOT whack them with the hook set, that will cause you to lose fish.
  3. I have the 735c Fury. It's a great rod but I think you would be better off with a 704c Fury. It's a better all around rod. You might want to check out the Daiwa Tatula rods too. They are more sensitive and have a nicer over all build than the Fury series. I have four Fury rods and three Tatula rods and I think sensitivity is much better with the Tatula rods.
  4. I'm interested in that exact rod. I can't really imagine the rod is the issue. Seems like you got it sorted out.
  5. I've been looking into a casting rod for lighter applications, and these two seem to be just what I'm looking for. I actually don't have the scratch for the G Loomis but I'm interested in anyones input who may have used both to hear their thoughts and comparisons. G Loomis 7' GLX 842 MBR casting rod (8-14lb line & 1/4-5/8oz) compared to a Shimano 7'2" Expride A Medium light + (7-14lb line & 1/8-5/8oz) Loomis also makes the 852c JWR in an E6X version. Unlike a lot of people on BR I really like the Gen 2 E6X rods.
  6. Have you checked out the new MojoGlass rods by StCroix? The two I held were fantastic. The 6’10” M was the one that interested me the most.
  7. Cool. That’s the style I do. Looks just like a split ring as you said. Nice pics.
  8. So you don't do one full 'go around' of the wire on the jig collar? I find that it spreads the distribution of pressure on the skirt and never slips or cuts the skirt material.
  9. Cool. My favorite spinning reels are the Tatula LT 2000, and the 3000 shallow spool version. These two reels cover all of my spinning needs 100%. I have three 2000s and two 3000. The 3000 with the Tatula 6'6" and 6'8" spinning rods are the lightest, most balanced, sensitive setups around.
  10. You digging all of them? Every Daiwa tatula rod and reel I have is fantastic.
  11. I really like the 10 and 12lb for crank baits, and top water. Straight 15lb is cool for jigs.
  12. The best copolymer I've tried so far is McCoy copolymer line. It's super limp and great for casting heavy lures like 168 s wavers. I use 17 and 20lb with good success. Sometimes I use 40lb PP with the 20lb as a leader and that works great too.
  13. Lighter line will definitely make you lure presentations change, which may get you more bites. Try it out, you have nothing to lose.
  14. Use what feels comfortable for you. I feel the most comfortable with rods in the 6'8"-7' range so I stay around there. I fish with my wife frequently from a small boat (10' long) so I don't want longer rods getting in her way while we are fishing. I do have a 7'3" Fury 735 for glide baits, I know if all my rods were that longs it would be a drag. It a great thing there are so many options for use to all chose what we enjoy the most.
  15. Hello @hawgenvy why does the 3/0 hook cause you to get more gut hooks? Wouldn't you set the hook the same time when you feel a bite using a 3/0, 4/0, or 5/0 size hook?
  16. The G Loomis taper you would want is the Spin Jig Rods. Loomis has stopped making them as of now in the GLX and NRX. The SJR are great and have a slightly slower tip than the ExFast JWR taper. The new E6X spinning rods fish quite well and they are available in the SJR taper, just not as super light as the GLX and NRX.
  17. Prices change like that quite frequently on Amazon. If you keep stuff saved in lists, the prices fluctuate often, not always at that high percentage but it does happen a lot. I bought a Fenwick Elite Tech rod for $79.00 that was $149.00 for 2 months and dropped to $79.00 for 3 days, then went back up. Enjoy your good price.
  18. I'd recommend these: Daiwa Tatula 150, Daiwa Sv TWS, Curado K All are fantastic reels that would leave you wanting nothing. All under your budget. I use a Tatula 150 and a Curado K with my St Croix LTB 6'8" MH rod.
  19. My style is 15lb braid to 10 red label FC on spinning set ups. With casting gear I use 30lb braid to 12lb red label FC. Some lakes I fish I get a little deeper into to cover so I bump up to the heavier line.
  20. You use this stuff in 20lb? What knot do you use to tie it?
  21. Pop R, skitter prop and pop, hula popper, original floating Rapala
  22. Any small plastic bait will catch fish on a mushroom head. Some may be more effective according to their shape and color. Just experiment.
  23. To actually answer your question, instead of telling you that I don’t use a leader when I use Braid, I will suggest with 10lb braid to use 6-8lb flouro or 6lb mono.
  24. I mostly use 1/4oz with a trailer like a Yum Wooly Bug, a small 3" beaver type bait. Some lakes I fish have tons of SMB and are deep clear lakes, so I will use the 3/8oz to get down.
