  1. They're probably going after the blades. Do you use a trailer on the hook?
  2. Spinnerbaits have picked up for me that last few weeks also.
  3. I'd be throwing an underspin.
  4. I just ordered some Siebert jigs to replenish my stock. I also ordered some Fogy's, what's the bubble blade?
  5. I recently had an issue with a barb breaking off without me realizing it but that was on me, not the jig. The only issue I've had with stock hooks was them being too thin and bending. One very popular brand in particular, their crankbaits, I was bending hooks on 2 pound bass. Not every once in awhile, it happened more times than not. That is not acceptable.
  6. I hate switching hooks. It's one thing if the hook is damaged in some way but I'm not going to spend money on a lure knowing I'm switching the hooks out before I even use it. I don't care how good the actual lure body is. I have actually switched brands due to my dissatisfaction with the stock hooks.
  7. Jerkbaits, and as always, jigs.
  8. I throw both chatterbaits and spinnerbaits on a MegaBass Orochi XX Diablo Spec R I'd consider it being on the lighter end of a MH rod.
  9. I purposely went with that and a fairly expensive spinning reel to force myself to use it. LOL I'll get the hang of it but will always prefer my baitcasters!
  10. The thing for me is, being in a kayak, when I'm fishing a wacky rig I only need to cast it between 10 and 20 feet so distance is not an issue.
  11. I was using a MH/F baitcasting rod for wacky, mainly because I don't fish that style much. I recently bought a Dobyns Fury ML/Fast spinning rod for that and dropshot. I like it but boy am I bad at accurately casting a spinning combo at the moment!
  12. Black/blue flake Watermelon/red flake Sungill
  13. I'm in the same kayak. I'm 240 and can stand on one side to pee over the side without even thinking about it tipping.
  14. For you yes! For me I rarely do well with them except in VERY small spurts..lol
  15. I use straight 30 lb braid, no leader. I fish jigs at least 50% of the time.
  16. I may be partial but I'd go with a kayak. I have a Bonafide SS127 with a motor and fish until the water ices over and start up as soon as there's enough ice free water. Clothing wise I start with merino wool and layer over it as needed, I also use NRS boots. I know a jon boat can get through shallows but I can do that and also fish a few places where any jon boat is too wide to get through some man made channels to get from one body of water to the other. As a major plus, in the off season my kayak hangs on a rack on the back wall of my garage. Completely out of the way.
  17. A squarebill ticking the grass top, or an underspin ticking the grass top, or a swim jig, ticking the grass top. I'd try them in that order. If there is good cloud cover or a nice breeze I'd throw a spinnerbait in the mix too.
  18. When it comes to jigs, sensitivity does matter. Welcome to the addiction!
  19. Well............one last cast usually means 3-5 for me since I'm close to the launch. But.........if I catch a decent bass on my "last cast" it usually means about 50 more casts......lol
  20. I'd want the 93 for the larger screen. Fifth year in a kayak and I've never even been close to flipping it. And I go out about five days a week in all sorts of weather.
  21. It depends on the lure weight. If I tried casting a jig/trailer on my crankbait rod I wouldn't get it very far. If I tried casting a squarebill on my jig rod I wouldn't get that very far either.
  22. Keep the bail open and watch your line. When using a jig up against steep drops on bluff faces and such with a baitcaster I'll often cast up against the bluff and then peel line off the spool so the jig drops straight down rather than pendulum back towards me. Same principle.
  23. I loved my St Croix's until I bought a MegaBass. Now most of my arsenal is MegaBass. That being said, some people love Ford, some love Chevy..........so you're ultimately going to have to make this decision yourself.
  24. Another vote for Swing Impact Fat.......
