  1. Have different ring tones for just about all my contacts from friends to business contacts, default tone is Dallas 4PM by Tiesto Jailbroken iPhone

What episode of the Bass Pros were you watching? Some of his tidbits are darn near useless such as his one rod action/type for everything, and others are great, really liked his explanation of crank bait deflection. By the way, this post I think belongs in general fishing forum
  3. Went fishing in my backyard canal/lake system to access the damage of the cold has done, NOT GOOD for non-natives! Spotted tilipia by the dozen, about 20 floating juvenile peacocks under 2 pounds, a larger peacock in ths shallows that didn't float yet. The largemouth bite was off only landed 3 fish in about 2 hours of fishing, where I usually land 10-30 >. Also, I have a fish feeder that attracts many spotted and blue tilipia when it goes off at various times during the day, guess what only bluegill come up! Its amazing what the sustained cold weather has done to the non-natives where I live (Palm Beach Gardens) Anyway, this may be a blessing for native fish species such as largemouth and bream. I am sure some survived, but the lack of competitors may let bucketmouth get big, but then again since many non-native forage fish died off such as spotted tilipia it may leave them with less forage, where's Mr. Lusk when you need him...would love his input on scenarios!
  4. Airgun manufactures tend to.....lie about actually FPS when compared to real world chronograph results so beware. I went through an "air rifle' phase for about 2 years when I was living in a condo, even set up a 10M shooting range in the my living room. If you want a great air gun right out of the box I recommend the Beeman R9 Goldfinger Combo, its a sweet little air rifle. I like the .20 caliber model. Have fun, by the way it will make you a much better shooter.
  5. Fish Nerds Rejoice! Most comprehensive site on Peacock Bass I have found. http://www.acuteangling.com/taxonomy/peacock-bass-species.html Florida Fish and Wildlife Publication about Peacock Bass http://www.myfwc.com/docs/WildlifeHabitats/Nonnative_FW_PeacockBass2008FlWildlifeMag.pdf#search=%22peacock%20bass%22
  6. Single slide bar, back in late 2000 early 2001 duck season.
  7. Did not mean to offend, but from experience and use I have been through 1 Mossberg 500 hundred with the plastic trigger guard breaking 2x (replaced by factory), the safety engaging upon firing, and the action rail becoming unwelded (also replaced by factory with new gun)!!! My duck hunting partner had his Mossberg safety break and the had to replace his weak magazine spring. Guess what, they lasted one season for mine and two season for his issues and my rail welding before having problems! So yes I stand behind my statement of what others say because maybe if only one gun had issues then it might have been a FLUKE, but 2 guns and 1 that was fixed at the factory, give me a break, JUNK! If you do your research and ask around you'll see that Mossbergs tend to have safety and spring problems often.I am not bashing inexpensive guns for the record just Mossberg and Charles Daly that happen to be inexpensive. If you read my post carefully, you noticed I praised the Remington 870 an INEXPENSIVE gun, that is world's better than the Mossberg in my OPINION. Lastly, don't get me started on Daly been there done that when I was broke and in college. Another good CHEAP gun that the poster may want to consider is the Ithaca. Its bottom ejecting like the BPS, but are TANKS. DISCLAIMER the Mossberg Military/Police Issue gun, I believe its the 580 or 590, is a different animal altogether it actually has STEEL PARTS! So who is the arse now SPEEDBEAD? (Don't take me too serious)
  8. Have seen many stressed and floating peacock bass and oscars in my canal system and adjacent neighborhoods! Nature's trash collectors are out in full force picking up the carnage, brown pelicans, snake birds, egrets, buzzards, and ospreys are in much higher numbers around the area. I saw a snake bird yesterday who looked distorted he was so full of fish. I guess in the end it may be good since a thinned out population of exotics will allow Bertha to have less competition, but it is sad seeing so many dead fish.
  9. At that price range there are not many choices, but the 870 is a great all around gun. As far as Synthetic stocks I personally like them. I have them on my Browning BPS Stalker, Benelli M2, and my Beretta 391. I started hunting with an 870 and used it for years. You may want to consider a used gun from Gunbroker.com (Have bought several guns through them) or your local dealer some other good choices are: 1. Browning BPS (Synthetic Stalker) 2. Browning Gold Hunter (SemiAuto) 3. Benelli Nova or Super Nova 4. Beretta 390 (This a bit more, than $400, but sometimes you find good deals on them for about $500-600, its a great semi auto and worth the extra over the others) 5. Winchester Super X2 (Great gun semiauto, think Browning Gold with Winchester label) Regardless of what others may say please follow this advice avoid, lower end Mossberg and Charles Daly branded shotguns.
  10. Watched all 5 minutes, the guy can drive! Love those Porsche passings and his cell phone hand off on the straight away.
  11. Anyone fishing or attending it this week for the Southern Open?
  12. I heard the second half of the game on the radio on the way back from the dove fields WOW! Its probably the best football game I've ever heard/watched as far as excitement, can only be topped by the Miami-Chargers double overtime playoff game that I attended as kid in 1982. I would love a Kurt/Brett matchup in the NFC Championship game! http://www.inhistoric.com/2010/1/1/998899/1-02-1982-the-epic-in-miami
  13. Brady will bounce back, in the next year or two he is simply too good, if you think the guy is washed up then you are letting your passion cloud reality. The two most annoying fans in my book are New York and Boston Area fans, many (not all) are arrogant and rude at games that I have attended down in Land Shark Stadium (Dolphin/Marlin Stadium).
  14. Slow, is the only way to go. When people buy Senko's and swear by them I say great you have confidence in your lure. I for one haven't noticed a difference in catch rate. Fall rates of particular lures out of the bag are different, yes, but the HOOK you use is an OVERRIDING factor when it comes to fall rate and the Senko's motion as it flutters down. I have had great success with BPS brand Tournament Stick-Os using 4/0 or 5/0 Gammy EWG hooks depending on length of lure. If I use Owner brand hooks they NOSE DIVE instead of flutter. The bigger cross section of the Owner hooks adds enough weight to ruin action. Also I like fishing Senko type lures on Braid where applicable. Lastly, all bets are off when a certain color is the hot lure of the day, this summer my buddy schooled me using a Chart Flake/Lemon looking Senko in dingy water while I used chart dipped white Stick-Os to limited luck. Go figure!
  15. Good for Ike! Go tear them up Ike with "Abu" this year Quantum three years from now, and Ardent after that. He'll eventually go the path of Bill Dance and Roland Martin and endorse just about any company that is willing to give him $$$. Isn't marketing great?! My objective rankings below 1.Daiwa/Shimano (You pick) 2. Abu 3. Pflueger/Quantum 4. Ardent/Okuma/US Reel, etc
  16. Made a few cast in my backyard canal/lake system and saw about 10 floating peacock bass, anyone else see any floater? I am in Palm Beach Gardens, which is close to their northern limit, but its been pretty cold down to Miami.
  17. I assume a .223 round was used, right? Nice shot!
  18. Boise although good football team will forever have a weak schedule, by being too good. Maybe some program will step up to the plate and schedule them to play, but as someone already mentioned who wants to lose to a WAC opponent. Here is an interesting article on strength of schedule prior to the beginning of this year's football start. http://www.fanblogs.com/ncaa/008153.php
  19. Everything gets muddled when trying to compare QBs to QBs, different offensive systems and personnel make direct comparisons difficult. Nevertheless, I think Nesbitt's lack of attempts compared to other QBs is based on their triple option base spread offense. The guy in my opinion is a better runner than TEBOW, although not the passer, but remember he isn't in Tebow's league when it comes to attempts and accuracy.
  20. Watched the game last night with my Tech buddy and needless to say, Iowa shut them down. What surprises me is GT lack of adaptation, when they played UM and Miami was able to slow down the option they threw to Demaryius Thomas! The guy is a stud of a receiver and they didn't take advantage of weaving him into the scheme. Nevertheless, Iowa looked good enough to beat a one dimensional offense! Congrats on your bowl victory Hawkeyes, its about time you represent in a Major bowl!
  21. B-N-B, I put in almost exclusively on the Southern ramp. For fishing the North end your best bet is the water control structures and the deeper cuts back into the refuge to the East. The run to the flats is a long ways from Southern. The canal edges usually don't produce many fish so I try to cover plenty of water using faster moving lures and then fish "fishy" structure or cover with T-rigs or jigs. Your best bet is finding moving water around water control structures, I have caught over 30 fish with my buddy when they are pumping.
  22. 1. I have bought and used just about all the Hollow body frogs on the market and Spro seems to perform the best, better hookup ratio. I also like the Swamp Donkey, but its a bit too light. 2. Fish the colors you have most confidence in. Dingy water and at night I really like the darker colored belly with a light top for contrast so I can see it. In clear water you can go with a more natural tree frog, or nasty shad color. 3. Like Simp, I find myself throwing the Popper version more because it is a bit more versatile in the sense, but I still like the traditional one for thick pads and pond scum. Use a 7' to 7'6" fishing rod with a med/heavy to heavy action with a fast action. Some of the rods I have used that performed great for hollow bodied frog duties were the Dean Rojas Frog Rod, Daiwa Light and Tough, Shimano Cumara, and my current rod is a G Loomis GLX 844. Get a quick reel with plenty of drag strength. Skeet Reese Revo is my current workhorse, but the Zillion High Speed was a great frog reel. As far as line, braid is the ONLY way to go. Try Daiwa Samurai Braid or Stren's Superbraid if you can still get in in 65lbs test strength. Good luck and post pics of the Hawgs when you catch'em on the frog. ;D
  23. Powerpole sells an adapter bracket that attaches to the jackplate or you can mount it directly to the hull. I have mine mounted to the jackplate since I didn't want to drill my hull. Go here for info http://www.jlmarinesystems.com/items.asp?Cc=AdapterPlates&Bc=
  24. Ever hear of a GHEENOE? http://www.gheenoe.net/index.html Not sure you can get them up there, but they are very stable and fishable boats, I would venture to say more than any kayak short of outriggers. If I didn't have my Jon boat purchased and owned already I would get one in a instant.
  25. Be very CAREFUL with your new super slick bunkers! Its great for sliding off and on easy, but when backing up especially on steep ramps keep your boat winched until in the water. Seen it to many times where boat comes completely off or partially of trailer with plastic slicks or after silicon spraying bunks.
