BPS Extreme or St. Croix Mojo
I just bought a Mojo spinner 7' med. and have only casted about 10 times, but so far so good. St. Croix's are great rods. Haven't owned a BPS rod since the Bionic Blade days.

Finally Made the Conversion...
Welcome bud to the resource! Don't worry about that little part of you that should have waited for the Loomis, the St. Croix you purchased is absolutely awesome! Tight lines and beware of the bait monkey, especially the one with caviar dreams.

Community Pond/Canal Management
I recently moved to a community in Palm Beach county Florida. My backyard butts up to one of the 6.5 miles of interconnected canals and 15 acres of lakes. About 5/6 years ago, my brother caught an 11lb bass out of this canal system (weighed and released) and I have heard neighborhood reports of a larger fish, but they are rumors. I have caught a 7lb 2oz, but my average fish is 1-2lbs with the occasional 4lb. The place is awesome and has very little fishing pressure. The canal system has a variety of forage; bluegill, shad, shiners, and tilapia. Unlike most South Florida canals, it has deep (15 to 20ft) holes in ponds that connect to the canal system and shallow spawning flats. There are plenty of weeds, although they are managed by the local water district on occasion. I installed an automatic fish feeder with Purina's gamefish chow a month ago and I'm amazed to see the number of tilapia (Blue & Spotted), bluegills, turtles, and catfish that have made themselves backyard pond residents. What basic steps can I take to make my little oasis better, other than purchasing all of Bob Lusk's books ?

What got you hooked?
I can remember to this day. My older brother bought me a Pfleuger Blue Sky with a Cardinal fishing reel and took me down to the local park. I had him tie on a Mepp's minnow with a spinner and on my third cast I caught about a 3-4lbs bass, what at the time seemed huge. Anyway, I was so excited I ran all the way home with it to show mom. Been addicted every since.

TackleTour.com what do you think? Do you agree with me?
I love tackle tour, but I would have to agree with you they seem to favor high end stuff on their reviews for good reason. Nevertheless, I value their opinions and have often used them to make my decisions. It would be cool if the did a budget reel or rod roundup for those who are just starting out or are financially limited. They could have rods/reels meet a certain price point and run them through their usual test. It would be awesome. They could call it "The Low Budget Shootout." I can just see it now. How well can bass see Braid??? Need a leader??
Bingo! It took me a bit to realize that while Snook fishing, cause I kept losing linesiders near structure, when braid first came onto the scene. I've been using a leader ever since for most my applications other than floating and swimming frog applications. I think you can get away using straight braid under certain water clarity conditions, but why not sleep easy knowing ole bucketmouth did not pass on your lure because of braid. Master the Uni to Uni or Bimini to No Name Knot and be on your way to a good night's sleep.

Swimbait Rod So Many Choices
Help me decide on swimbait rod. I will not be casting ridiculously large lures so I don't need a heavy broom stick, but I don't want to use my flipping stick as a double duty rod. Swimbaits I'll use: Matt Lures' Hard and Soft Bluegill (3/4 oz to 2 ozs) Sebile's Magic Swimmer 165 (1.5oz) Strike King's King Shad (.9oz) Secondly, I would like a lightweight swimbait bait rod, if there is such a thing that will balance well with a Calcutta 200 GTB (10ozs) spooled with 17-20lb. test, most likely Suffix Elite or Trilene 100% Flouro. Here are the rods I am considering: Loomis Big Bait GL2 Casting 964 8' Hvy G. Loomis Swimbait Rod 904 7'6" Medium Falcon Cara T7 Cast 7'10" Extra Hvy Dobyns Champ Swimbait Rods 7'9" Med Hvy Lamiglass XC767 7'6" Swimbait Special Rod Shimano Crucial Swimbait Cast Rod 7'11" Md Hvy Fenwick Elite Swimbait Rod 7'9" Hvy If anyone has any other recommendations of rods you've tried and liked or line recommendation please advise. First hand knowledge takes precedence. Thanks in advance.

How many rods do you really need?
A fishing rod is not a need, food, water, and shelter are needs, after that everything is gravy, but I like lots of gravy ;D. In an Ideal world a rod setup for all the techniques you could be presented with on your particular body of water. For me this is about 5 setups, but as I tell all my friends that are casual fisherman. A 6'6" to 7' Med/Medium Hvy Spinning Rod with a 3000 SeriesReel should cover pretty much all your fishing rod needs.

Sinking Cover Saturday
I have a private community lake and the HOA doesn't say anything, so I am assuming there shouldn't be a problem.

Sinking Cover Saturday
I've been busy lately new kid and new house, but I have managed to finally get some old xmas trees ready for sinking in my neighborhood pond/canal system. I did some research and it was recommended that branches be cut off off to leave gaps for ole'bucketmouth to hide out in. Here is a pic of my handy work. I've already found some deep holes next to ledges to sink'em in. Edited structure to cover, I knew that too

Official 2009 BASS Fantasy Fishing Thread
Just signed up. I won't go as far as saying I will win this, but I have a 1 and 36 chance (currently) of being crowned the Bass Resource Fantasy King. I say we all sweeten the pot a bit and mail the winner a prize. If each resource member post what he'll offer that would be great. I will offer 1 new/never used, slightly modified Spro Dean Rojas Frog in green color. It would be great if each offers his favorite lure, line, etc that he actually uses to fish. If you guys are all in this would be a great incentive to keep track of your roster making it more competitive ;D

Florida fishermen I need some advice
Being a Florida Native and fishing South Florida waters since I was about 4 years old I can tell you your opinion is not one I hold. As a kid I fished for soap fish and bass exclusively. As a teenager I did the whole offshore thing, sailfish, wahoo, dolphin, etc. and as an adult I stick to inshore fishing and bass, unless someone offers me a trip offshore. They are all rewarding, but let may say this in defense of the Largemouth bass, not any retard can catch one. For example I went out with my brother in law for 2 hours yesterday in my jon boat right off my backyard. The guy is an open water slayer, guess how many fish he caught? 0! I ended up with 11! He just doesn't know how to fish for them, he can rig for wahoo, sails, and troll with the best of them, but when it comes to pinpoint casting and getting the feel for a subtle hit, then he is sunk. So is he an idiot saltwater fisherman that couldn't catch a bass to save his life? No, he lacks experience and knowledge. Each fish has its own qualities that can't be matched. No bass is going to run like a bonefish. Nor is the bass going to make good table fair like a Pompano. Yet, there is something about the bass that just can't be matched in terms of types of presentations used and tackle variety. How many times have you seen the saltwater fishing world be influenced by bass fishing techniques? To each his own. I enjoy all types of fishing, I am not a fish snob! That said my favorite fish is a toss up between bass and snook, but if I had to choose one to fish for the rest of my life it would be bass, cause those robalos sure do like getting lock jaw at times! Now back to the original post. If I were you I would try something different while you are down in Florida, redfish in the lagoon are on fire usually this time of year.
